  • Steam has long been an indispensable source of energy in the process industry. Here, 40 percent of fossil fuels alone are used for the generation of steam. With Prowirl 200, you have the energy and cost efficiency of your steam system well under control - including your operational safety. This animation shows why, and explains how Prowirl can measure - as a world’s first - the quality and quantity of wet, saturated and superheated steam.

how to calculate the flow of fluid through (volume/hour) into (kilograms / hour ) and how to know the density fluida ???

I have a question concerning the measurement of saturated steam with the vortex flow meters: if I have a transportation pipe 300 m long for saturated steam, and if I install a vortex flowmeter at each end of the pipe, the displayed flow is the same ? Or I should to expect a difference between the flows displayed by the two flowmeters? My question is justified by the properties of saturated steam, the ratio between liquid fraction and the volume of saturated steam being variable, at the same pressure and temperature. It is very important to know this, because in the installing instructions never writing about this matter.

Exactly because of the situation you are describing we developed our Vortex meter Prowirl with optional Wet Steam / Drynes Fraction measurement.

You will see two different measurements because of heat loss and condensate removal along the 300m length. I’m not sure why you would have two flow meter at either end of a pipe, seems like a waste of money. You could presume say 5% energy loss depending on the conditions and go from there. Generally you have a flow meter at point of use, and maybe a main flow meter off the boiler?

Can it measure quality of wet steam in a vertical pipe? If so, what is the working principle then as there would be no stratified layer of water?

I’m not sure why anyone would spend money on such a product if it only measures the river of condensate forming on the bottom of the pipe, so it’s essentially giving an incorrect reading as it does not measure the moisture entrained in the steam itself.
If the steam system is designed correctly there is no need for this at all.
