  • Is Robert Pattinson the best Batman? I'm here to give my take. There's so much that I can say about this film that I didn't mention in this video. I might come back to talk about it more in the future.
    (Remember, it's just my opinion)

I loved this movie and I just wanted to give my two cents on it.
I didn't even mention the amazing opening sequence and monologue, or the other brilliant performances. I was mostly trying to keep the video concise. I might make a video on the deleted joker scene, as I have a few things I wanted to say about that.
    Anyways, thanks for watching.

Finally someone who understand The Batman. Unlike others that saying it's bad just because they wanted to see more blockbuster actions from Batman movie instead of understanding Batman himself. This movie is really good showing the audience how is it to be Batman, and that's no fun at all; the struggle, the phsycology, the try and error, the experience of beginner. The movie shows that being a Batman isn't gonna be magically would solve all the problem in the Gotham city just because you are the main character.

I agree. The problems with the other live action films.
Is that they wanted to show Bruce Wayne the playboy. Instead of Bruce Wayne the man. They wanted to show mental fortitude instead of mental illness.
Burtons Batman was 1 dimensional and focused on spectacle.
Nolan’s Batman was too busy using exposition to defend itself from being a comic book film.
Just recall all the moments Christian Bale openly explains his costume and his reasonings.

I agree with your assessment. Your point about this character being “antiquated” is why I think Batman will withstand many updated iterations to come. As we become more savvy in our taste for complex and dimensional characters Reeves’ visceral approach and Pattinson’s nuanced portrayal seemed to satisfy our current demands for superheroes. I so enjoyed this movie and love the direction they are taking that I shamelessly want Reeves to keep being inspired by “Ego” and continue this character study so he can really sink his teeth into the duality of Batman vs Bruce since Pattinson has proven to be such an engrossing presence under the cowl that I look forward to his further exploration of the two. In this age of cookie-cutter-live-action-storytelling I believe he is the right director to refresh this genre by actually making a sequel that is really an in-depth psychological examination of a superhero that won’t be overshadowed by the villains but instead focusing on Bruce’s growth as a (Bat)man. I think if anyone could give this character complexity and weight that we long for it is Reeves’ humanistic directorial touch and Pattinson’s instinctual performance. Thanks for the video.

  • @MaikeruAviz
    @MaikeruAviz Před rokem +9

I'm 18 and haven't actually grown up with Batman or superheroes in general, at least like everyone my age seems to, I was always more into Video Games. I saw the trailers to this and it looked really intriguing but I had no reason to think it'd wow me so out of wanting to know what the hype of Batman was about I watched the Dark Knight trilogy, not just once but twice within 2 weeks or so before I watched The Batman in theaters. I loved the first watching of the Dark Knight trilogy that it caused me to have a marathon after the sunset in my backyard with a fire with all my friends who were going to watch The Batman the day after with me. Oddly enough, my hype of the Dark Knight and even of The Batman caused me to be doubtful that Robert Pattinson was going to perform better than Christian Bale but I still thought it'd be good. Low and behold I was BLOWN AWAY, this movie made Matt Reeves my favorite director of this generation, just by watching the interviews you can tell he is extremely passionate and nerdy about movie making and Vengeance himself. It also made Robert Pattinson one of my favorite actors to learn about, on a personal level, just where he has been and going is really interesting to me and he is a really cool character outside of the characters he plays. I was also super hesitant to say this was my favorite Batman movie, superhero movie, and favorite Batman himself mostly because I didn't want recency bias to cloud my judgment so I gave it more time, watched it 2 more times in theaters, waited for it to come on HBO Max and watched it 2 more times and I can confidently say it didn't just hold up, it only got better, I am still watching this movie finding new things, and even interpreting it differently in different ways then I did previously just by thinking outside of my own person and trying to put myself more in the shoes of each character which causes every viewing to be a new experience almost. I think this is an insane look into morality that EVERYONE can really find some lessons to learn from. As for Robert Pattinson, his performance is S+ tier, out of all the modern actors and movie performances he gives one to be remembered, his performance is at least super high on my limited list of movies but still maybe just at the top if I do dare say I think it's Oscar-worthy, partly because you don't get performances like that in blockbuster movies to let alone superhero movies. I know the Oscars are kind of a joke from what I hear, but out of all the blockbuster movies I think none of them will hold much against The Batman (2022) I think it will have to be really high on the number of nominations a movie gets in the Academy Awards and it may not win a lot of them as it is still a superhero movie and isn't trying to win anything but instead bring a high-quality experience to as many people and more importantly to the harder fan-base and not trying to appease and make money from everyone like the MCU, not that that's bad but I have respect for movies that try to make the people that actually give a damn and care a lot about the story and characters happy even if it bores or pisses off others outside of that niche.
Again, I am not incredibly into the Movie world like a lot of people are, so a lot of what I said might be from an incredibly casual perspective so don't burn me pls xD

I just watched it again and the image of him walking the people to safety with his flare sent a shivers, like the pied piper, so many interesting metaphors. As much as I love the Dark Knight trilogy and Ben Afflecks version, Robert has delivered the definitive version of both Bruce and Batman for me. Cinematography was awesome, Penguin.. incredible, Riddler, a dark and menacing version played by a brilliant Paul Dano. I loved Catwoman and the chemistry between them, and the film score was amazing, it hit the emotional highs and lows at just the right moments. Can't wait for the sequel. I hope it keeps the style and increases the scale. There is a lot you can get out of this film that doesn't require saying it explicitly to the audience; you have to observe and think through Bruce's character arc. I like it when filmmakers don't assume I'm an idiot and need to spell everything out for me like I'm 5.
I loved that Pattinson's Batman is basically a "Year 2" Batman who has the fighting techniques, the gadgets, the detective skills...the groundwork is there. But he's still not quite figured out why he's doing the whole Batman thing or how he reconciles being both Bruce and Batman. He basically sees Bruce as the kid who died with his parents and his only persona is that of Batman. But he has to slowly regain his childhood innocence and humanity so that the anger he vents on his enemies doesn't just consume him completely.

  • @matheusblancosoares7610

This is not even a question to me. He was already my favorite live action Batman when i learned he had a no killing rule.
But when i saw that he had what in my opinion is the most essential characteristic that Batman must have, he is not only my favorite, but i highly doubt any actor or script will top his interpretation.
    The characteristic is his OBSESSION.
Anyone who truly knows Batman understands that he can NEVER stop being Batman.
His mind will never allow him to stop, to be happy.
Batman is a Symbol of hope for the Innocent and a Symbol of fear for the criminals.
But no live action movie has shown what Batman means for himself.
It's a curse, he can never have a normal life.
The only thing he can do is allow the people to reach happiness that he will never have.
The Animated Movie " Batman The Mask of the Phantasm " and the Comic " Batman Ego " truly show how complex and deep Batman REALLY is.
Robert Pattinson and the Movie's Script transpose this beautifully.
And the other essential characteristic : his compassion.
Many people tend to say that Batman is no hero. He is just a angry man punishing criminals.
Of course these people probably never read a Batman comic in their lifes.
Batman stays with Ace until she dies.
New 52 Scarecrow comic, Batman Stays with a little girl after she was tortured by Scarecrow.
Batman The Animated Series. An episode Where Batman rescues Leslie and in parallel saves dozens of people from a blast that will destroy crime alley.
" Good people still live in Crime Alley "
" They are scum, but even scum have families "
    Batman Crime War.
    Batman Arkham Origins Ending
But this is the movie that shows Batman as a man with empathy.
People stop fearing him, and start accepting him as a protector.
Batman finds his ballance as Fear and Hope.
" I need to be something more "
    This is my favorite Batman.

I think Robert is my favorite live action take besides Ben affleak and personally I think his Bruce will greatly benefit from taking a page out of Kevin Conroy’s playbook and having to develop a bit of a public persona
That’s why Kevin Conroy is the goat for me his Batman is the most reclusive and the smartest he carries a stoic demeanor that really only Pattinson has nailed his Bruce is just enough of a playboy but has a sort of Don Draper feel to him and he’s approachable by the average person in the animated series
I think if Pattinson is forced to develop his Bruce Wayne side due to being in the public eye he will become the definitive live action take

I think my take-away of all this absurd debate is that there is no such thing as a "definitive Batman." To think so is to mistake personal taste for objective judgement. I personally have disliked every live-action Batman, some more, some less, since I was old enough to find the Adam West version's bland camp tiresome (as a connoisseur of camp, I prefer mine to have genuinely subversive subtext, and "it's actually silly and stupid" isn't enough. I'd kill to see the John Waters Batman).
My only complaint about Bale's version matches Bale's own, that he never quite cracked the character, or found the core emotion to convey. So his performance is all pieces in search of a center that's not quite there. I found Keaton's version without nuance or dimension, but that was hardly his fault. He had nothing to work with but some empty one-liners, and was buried inside a rubber costume that was more like a prop than a conduit for any kind of performance. Puppets are more expressive than he was allowed to be in that Batsuit.
But this gets back to the issue of subjectivity. I went in to Batman back in '89 with a very different notion of what the character ought to be, heavily informed by The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One, which had just awakened my interest in comics a few years earlier. So my "definitive Batman" looked very different than the one on screen. Yet Keaton's rubber-suited, semi-immobilized take, and the cartoonish world he lived in, immediately became a huge number of people's first, best version of the character, and remains so. Who am I to argue?
Since then, the animated series came out, cementing together everything the character had ever been into a brilliant balance of old, new, and timeless, with a brilliant voice actor to carry it. So is that the definitive Batman? No, because there's no such thing. As Nolan said, the character thrives on reinvention. Nolan's version is a unique, brilliant outsider's take on the ideas, reinventing his Batman to be more akin to James Bond. Snyder expressed his notions of libertarian exceptionalism, which, ya know, whatever. Certainly his version had more in common what the ideas Miller was playing with than most, so much as I could infer from whatever those films were trying to get at.
Personally, I love this new film, and this new Batman, more than any other live-action version. But I don't consider it definitive, not in the slightest. This Batman could never fight my favorite pulpy "weird science" villains like Mr. Freeze or Man-Bat or Clayface, not unless they were radically reinvented the way the Riddler was. His Batmobile is aggressively understated. He doesn't really use the shadows or evoke the kind of supernatural otherworldliness that's so much fun in the comics and cartoons. He's really little more than an angry guy in a funny costume. He doesn't even have that deep, powerful Batman Voice that Kevin Conroy made so iconic, that Bale tried to match.
Some might consider these omissions as weaknesses, but only if you're judging this film by how close it is to being the "definitive Batman." But to my mind, they're strengths, defining THIS Batman, saying what can't be said with a different version. As great as the animated series is, that Batman isn't this Batman, with his unique quirks. I don't need a live-action version of the animated Batman. I wanted exactly what I got, a take on the character I couldn't have imagined.

    • @TruestPicture
      @TruestPicture  Před rokem +2

I completely agree that there is no definitive Batman. There is very little objectivity in any conversation about art or entertainment. These things are not quantifiable. I hope people don’t get the wrong idea when I say “my definitive batman”. I simply wanted to justify my love for this film. The animated series is amazing, and it’s definitely up there for me too. Thanks for your input.

    • @rottensquid
      @rottensquid Před rokem +1

@@TruestPicture Right, of course. Everyone has their definitive Batman in their heads, and for each person, it's a little different, and also, it's a little different from any actual piece of Batman media. That's the interesting thing about this collectively written characters. There's so much out there, we have to pick and choose what we like. So we can customize our own fan-canon version.

Accurate to Frank Miller's dystopian satire, or his four-issue noir experiment? Accurate to all 75 years of self-contradictory DC comics? There's not such thing as accurate with Batman, except the name, the ears, the cape, and a few other basics. There's a line past which the character is no longer Batman, but if any of the films crossed that line, then all of them did, to some degree or other.

For me, that’s how I would accurately judge the on screen Batmen based on performance from the actor and the characterization and interpretation from the movie’s script.
It’s not a hot take, it’s also not prisoner of the moment or being blinded by nostalgia goggles. Robert Pattinson is easily the best Batman and Bruce Wayne ever on screen. From the narrative choices alone with him being for the first time ever the true focus of the movie, he carries the vast majority of the screen time, particularly in the suit. He does such a tremendous job conveying the pain, anger, grief, and depression the character is stuck in along with his isolation. His Batman is empathetic, but also menacing and terrifying. His Bruce comes off cold and rude, but ultimately has a heart beneath the cold exterior, he pushes people away because he doesn’t want to experience the grief of losing somebody again. This is the character from the modern comic books. Not only is the character as written the best out of all the films, and there has been some truly remarkable Batman films. Robert Pattinson‘s performance is so prideful, and you can tell he truly loves the character, it’s by far and away the best and most true performance as Batman and Bruce Wayne. Like not even close. And that’s saying something considering the great actors that came before him, with beloved takes like Michael Keaton and Christian Bale.
Pattinson nailed it on all levels out the gates. Thanks to the accuracy of the characterization and the strength of the best performance ever of the character in totality on screen. The Batman, indeed. Or The Patman? Or Robert Battinson? Either way, as loyal to the source material first, Pattinson has clearly been the best.
