    Great video! I hope you can consider giving away your elf model with your course on gumroafd for following along the tutorial. It just looks amazing and it would be really nice

      Thanks! Yea due to all of my tutorials getting torrented I don't want thousands of people getting my high quality model for free, so unfortunately I can't provide it. Also I would charge a lot more for the tutorial if I included the model.

      @@tomnewburycg good point. But why not at the model with Groom and such as separate product on Gumroad so anyone who wants it to follow the tutorial better ( me included ) can buy it and the others not.
      Mabye also good promo for the tutorial as cool renders of a model gets posted and credited you and your tutorial which will bring more customers.

    I've followed all of your Mari tutorials and they've all been awesome. I just wish Mari wasn't so ridiculously expensive for individual users. I'm not working professionally and making any money off of it, I just want to be able to use 8k displacement maps lol. I don't know how they think $689 per year or $69 per MONTH is in any way reasonable for individual hobbyist users. I think they're making less money in the long run by essentially forcing people into piracy.

      Yea I agree, it is steep for an indie license which is a shame. The Non-Commercial is pretty good though. 6 UDIMS at 4K with a max of 5 objects is pretty good, you can do a lot with that.

    Hey Tom, love your work!
    Just wondering, if someone was comfortable with substance painter is that acceptable in vfx or is mari industry standard and you would have to learn that?

    • @tomnewburycg
      @tomnewburycg  Před rokem +4

      It depends on the studio, I know smaller studios don't mind what you do, but from experience, Weta, MPC and ILM all require you to know Mari. It's an industry standard for them.

      You should have gotten an email about this, a non-commercial version of the template is now available in the downloads of the tutorial. Thank you for flagging this for me!

      @@tomnewburycg Hey Tom, just had the same issue with non-commercial, is there any way you could make a non-commercial version available online?

    Mari is like substance painter or they are used to different things?

    • @tomnewburycg
      @tomnewburycg  Před rokem

      Mari is more of the industry standard when it comes to film work, Substance is more for games development. They are both great programs.

    Hi Tom, I boght your tutorials, and I love them. But Im still confuse in how to level up or down disp maps, Like layering moving one up and the other down, what do you use? Just a levels node ??
    when you connect a disp map with a grey 0.5 and an overlay merge. The grey color moves the disp up or down if you change the color to 0.2 or 0.8?

    • @tomnewburycg
      @tomnewburycg  Před rokem +1

      I will bring up my disp intensity globally and then reduce the other. Another way to do it, is whemever you create a merge node with a neautral grey and mask plugged into it, is always set the opacity of the merge node to 0.5 and then you have the freedom to increase or decrease as you go.
