This is the new 2012 Aston Martin V8 Vantage "S" Roadster. This new "S" model incorporates many new performance enhancements to the already capable Vantage. The most unique addition is the SEVEN speed "automated manual shift" paddles behind the steering wheel. It took some getting used to, but after some practice I learned to really enjoy the paddle shift, though I would still prefer a manual transmission.
This car proved to be all about balance. The 4.7L V8 engine puts out 430 h.p. and 361 lbs. ft. of torque, not big numbers for cars at this price range (about $165,000), but the chassis on this car is so good that every bit of the horsepower is maximized.
Then, there's the sound this car makes. This just might be one of the best sounding V8 engine roar on the planet.

It is not about bragging about how much a certain model costs, it is about the feeling of driving such a beautiful piece of British Engineering and understatement. I went to pick up my E55 a couple years back and they had this recently traded Vantage sitting on the showroom floor...I asked if I could sit in it and it took my breath away...the interior is the most gorgeous interior I have ever seen...it was like a work of art...and that was just the inside...the exterior is a scultured classic...just WOW! My E55 and M6 may be a bit faster, but for shear class...AM wins without even trying...well done

I'm still at the age where I really enjoy a manual transmission and just the thought of actually rowing through the gears with that V8 makes me happy...I would still enjoy owning the V12 and appreciating the challenge driving that car fast presents!

@MrTrumpeter93 Wow, great question.I absolutely love the sound of the V8 and the car is noticeably better balanced and more nimble on the road...Plus, the gas mileage was almost unbelievable good in the V8.
The V12 sounds stunning and is very exotic but I'm just a die-hard muscle car guy so the V8 sound makes me happy in my soul. However, given the extra power, the manual 6speed and hard top makes the choice easy.V12 VANTAGE is the one for me, no doubt about it...bucket list car for sure!Thanks!
That is Placerita Canyon just North of Los Angeles...and then we scooted up to the Ranger station at the top of Bear Divide...very nice up there.

I think I would too. They're both great (not that I would really know), but the rarity of having a V12 sports car would be enough for me. Not crazy about the leeches on the hood, but other than that, I'd love one. Good review by the way.
@autoedit MY favorite car ever is technically a '68 GT500KR Convert. but I generally just lump that into saying its the '68 Mustang because that way I can say that I already own my favorite car!! I also generalize my second favorite to be anything in the current design line up of Aston.

I love Aston Martins, if I won the lottery I would be straight down the dealership, and I would buy the Vantage out of all of their models as the baby Aston just looks the best! So so so cool, and because it's small it's more fun to throw around. Great car. I just worry how Astons will be with the AMG engines in them, such a shame they won't be making their own engines anymore :(

I'm gonna ask the same question MrTrumpeter93 asked...sort of. Because since then the new, 2013 V8 Vantage has been unveiled. Only noticeable difference between it and the S being the manual gearbox option.
So do you still prefer the V12 over the V8 despite the extra weight, harsher ride, and poorer mileage?
Can I ask some experts here? Ive heard that a lot of people found the automatic gearbox in the Astons are not that smooth. In this Vantage S for example, would the manual gearbox be faster or slower than the automatic? and how about in a normal v8 vantage??
You mentioned you like the sound of the v8 better than the v12, but as a whole car do you like the v8 vantage or the v12 vantage better?

I need help, should go all fast & furios and get a GTR or go with some class and a Aston Martin vatage v8 ? :D My two favorite cars are the Vanquish and the GTR but i cant buy the vanquish if i could i would go with that but now i dont know what to do. This will be my everyday yes the aston is more comfortable but the GTR kills it when it comes to performance. Though saying i have a aston martin would feel better hahaha I will mod the GTR but i wont touch the aston that much so its original.

What's the difference between a Vantage, Vantage S, and Vantage N420?
I found that in full auto mode, it had a small delay between gears on up shifts. The trick for sporty use of the paddles is to treat gear changes like a manual..breathe of the gas, hit the paddle and bury your foot back in the gas. Besides, the blip on the downshift is flat awesome. But for me, give me a proper manual!
I've gotten so used to my Sportshift II that the thought of a real manual doesn't bother me like it used to, the manuals are really hard to find

If I'm not mistaken think about what is Highway 74 in California it goes between Palm Desert and Temecula. It's a great Drive I lived most of my life in the Palm Desert area and used to drive this road a lot in my car is and sportbikes

Live with one for a couple of months. Eventually, the sounds, looks and visual appeal give way to the terrible build quality, electronic glitches, squeaks, rattles and tinny chassis structure. I assure you, ANYONE who admires these cars or claims Aston Martin is their dream brand has never owned one.
