Have a great day!
"In Flanders Fields" is a war poem in the form of a rondeau, written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. He was inspired to write it on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of friend and fellow soldier Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, who died in the Second Battle of Ypres. According to legend, fellow soldiers retrieved the poem after McCrae, initially dissatisfied with his work, discarded it. "In Flanders Fields" was first published on December 8 of that year in the London magazine Punch. Flanders Fields is a common English name of the World War I battlefields in Belgium and France.
Lyrics in English:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
The dead were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields, In Flanders fields
And now we lie in Flanders fields
Take up your quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields, In Flanders fields
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields, In Flanders fields - Hudba
In memory to the 15-20 milion people that lost their lives in this goddamn war.
Lest we forget.
Forget, we won't.
Theyre trying to do it again.

Adding in every continent and their countries respective of 1914 is very heartwarming and inclusive of you.
as a Canadian, we have this play EVERY remembrance day ceremony because the original poem was written by a Canadian. I swear to you every student in this country has had to sing this in music class every November at least once.
Agreeable, as someone from Canada as well.
Agreeable as I live in novascotia
First we throw food
We can compare it to something. As I live in Ukraine, we often honor the memory of fallen heroes. Unfortunately, we are living in this period. We must persevere. This war reminds me a lot of the First World War.
Not Canadian but in Australia we sing it through November
In 1815 men were getting killed due to muskets, bayonets, cuirassiers, cannons, etc. In 1915, men were getting killed to LMG’s, grenades, artillery shells, and tanks in August of the next year. It’s honestly crazy how much humanity has evolved in such a short period of time
The craziest is that the same you said about 1815, applies to 1715
@@PHZanoniThe industrial revolution and it's consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

The 2nd verse is my favorite part of the song. It emphasizes the fact these numbers on a chart aren't just a report of how much manpower each country lost, each of those numbers were people just like us, people who lived like us, laughed like us, loved like us, all for it to be cut and weeded out by those greedy at the top, who saw this meaningless war as sports.
Unfortunately the final verse got usurped for nationalistic propaganda. I think the first two verses are gorgeous are really touch on the themes you mention. My students will just be singing the first verse!
The thing is, this whole event won't be a fucking war were russia just stay out of austria business.
@@nebunezz_rwhat you mean the Austrians who were about to make war on Serbia for something they couldn’t prove the Serbian government had any part in explain how that’s russias fault
@@nebunezz_r Dude how do you manage to bring nationalistic, hawkish sentiment into a song about soldiers dying?
The fact that a killing in Sarajevo led to you watching this video in a computer is kinda shocking.
That's kinda scary now that I think of it.
And the fact that a soldier didn't die in that war lead to it being called "World War One".
@@Roach18damn, didn’t even think about that.
Only the survivors endure the worst of it.
Only the leaders move past it.
Only the dead can rest from it.
Only the children can learn from it.
Last night I had the strangest dream
I ever dreamed before,
I dreamed the world had all agreed
to put an end to war.
I dreamed I saw a mighty room
The room was filled with men.
And the paper they were signing said
they’d never fight again.
And when the papers all were signed
and a million copies made,
they all joined hands and bowed their heads,
and grateful prayers were prayed.
And the people in the streets below
were dancing round and round,
and guns and swords and uniforms
Were scattered on the ground.
Last night I had the strangest dream
I ever dreamed before,
I dreamed the world had all agreed
to put an end to war.
*Don’t do war, kids.*
Some say the Crimean War was the first modern war. I would say WW1 was the last imperial war. A war for the sake of war. That's what makes it tragic: unlike WW2 (which was terrible, but for different reasons), up until the very last moment, it could have been prevented. There was no glorious fight against the enemy as the propaganda might have said. Only endless bloodshed for no reason other than territorial gain and perceived necessity. The war ended with victory for the Allies, but had the Central Powers won, they could have just as easily have blamed Serbia as the Allies blamed Austria-Hungary. Was the life of one man worth the 20 million more that followed? What if that one fateful day had gone differently? If a few select individuals who had no idea the horror they would unleash had made different choices? If there was no perfect storm? WW1 was sad not only because of the lives lost, but because those who lost their lives died for no good reason. And who won the war? Not the world powers. Not the people. Certainly not the soldiers. In the end, there was only loss. The Germans and their allies collapsed. Russia because the Soviet Union. Britain, France, the US, and all their allies lost countless soldiers. Everyone loses in war, regardless of whose' flag flies in victory.
Indeed my friend, a lot of people suffer in war, that like you said it's a deadly game with no winner. A good example of it can be the western front, how many man from both sides died, got injuried, were poisoned for almost 4 years only for the conquest of a few metters of wasteland?
I do agree with this statement ,
From what I’ve learned, you’ve probably put it out the best I’ve seen !
Ps love how you mentioned crimea but I’d say that war was in the running for world war status
Arguably, WW2 was just like any other European balance of power war. If Germany dominated Europe, then neither France or Britain could stand up to it in the future.
Wrong. Russia is an imperialist terrorist regime, this war is completely imperialistic and it won’t stop at Ukraine if she falls.
I have come here on Remembrance Day, shall we respect, and thank the soldiers who have made our life the way they are now.
it was a terrible time. Unfortunately, now we have another terrible opposition war, which Moscow unleashed against Ukraine. Everything is the same: trench warfare, thousands of deaths in one day, and regular bombing of peaceful cities is added to this. This song will become relevant again, only one word will be replaced: in
Bakhmut fields...
I will always remember this song as my primary school had us sing this every year around Remembrance Day and I remember a lot of people shed a tear during this May all the soldiers rest peacefully
In memory in the people's lives that were lost during the war🙏🙏
Watching this makes me sad. We had a beautiful old world, then one incident in the Balkans led us down this path. May those who lie in Flanders Fields rest in peace.
It wasn’t just “one incident”. Europe was going to explode into war even if Franz Ferdinand wasn’t shot.
it wasn’t as simple as “oh one guy died welp let’s all go to war”
These days there are many "Flanders" fields, fields where people of different nationalities lay their heads, who forget what unites them, why they are here... War destroys our lives, but man changes it. He builds and repairs... I hope that all who are in conflict, who are at war, will remember those who laid their hearts and heads in the mires of the Flanders fields. I hope that this year they will cross the no man's land, the border that separates them and share their feelings, scarf, gloves, share smiles to their enemies... (Sorry, my English is a little wrong, I use Google Translate this time) Thanks for this video!❤
Beautiful words my friend, Beautiful words. May one day peace rule over the world once again.

In every country, no matter how bad the situation is, there is atleast one "Flander field" to Remember the sacrifice, the death, the people, the PTSD, from those poor soldiers..
I cried while listening to this. Just thinking what the soldiers during the Great War went through both on Central and Allied forces. The horrors that they watched and lived shall never be forgotten. And it is a lesson that war is hell for whomever fights in it.

Been meaning to get a WWI uniform and spruce it up from the AEF or possibly the AAS and to listen to this song in said uniform, the medal of victory on the uniform preferably, then the feels would hit harder than they are now listening to it. I had family in this war, there names lost to history members of the AEF last name Guido all I know. And to my knowledge I never saw them again in a photo after one in 1917, so I salute there passing, aswell as the death of all the men, German, British, French, Bulgarian, Turkish, Russian, American, Austrian, Hungarian, Serb, or Montenegrin, may where they now lie be in Flanders field, and lay the to red in the field of poppies.

A somber and honestly quite reflective song. However, I fear we, as humans, will never learn from our mistakes...
15-20 million for the first war.
60 million for the second.
_What will the Third look like, or the Fourth?_
"I know not with what weapons World War 3 will be fought with, but World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones." -Albert Einstein
There's no fourth conventional. We're all going to die in a biological warfare wars or economic world wars before the fourth conventional world war will be. Plus using nukes in counter productive, and inefficient. As the japanese would like to do in WW2 given unit 731 was given enough resources, and time to create a bioweapon devastating enough to kill the entire US population. For them it was gonna be efficient given enough time during ww2. Plus a world war destroying, and using up a lot of resources are a waste of time. Why not wipe out an entire population using bioweapons that is more stealthy than launching nukes, and far more efficient. You can take the other's resources without them even saying no because most of the population is either dead, near death, or infected with the devastating plague. WW4 is gonna be a non conventional war. A war that will end in our extinction because we didn't think that our bioweapons would go rogue or the other side dying from the bioweapon.
Actually WW2 had 70-85 Million
I don’t think that after the third world war there will be any wars at all

Never believe that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime.-Ernest Hemingway
This song is so dark 😢
The people in power dragged millions of people into a great darkness in the history of humankind. 'We are the dead short days ago and now we lie in Flanders Fields'. Many mistakes were made. Too many. Two times that same darkness took our lives. Two times will suffice, don't treat them lightly thrice.

May those who died in this war rest in Valhalla…
One day the great European War will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans- Otto Von Bismarck
You walk in the fields of German controlled Belgium. You hear gun shots but can never pinpoint where it is coming from, artillery that is just out of ear shot, and plane engines that are just above but never to be seen. You then see an British soldier ,but he doesn’t shoot. Then a French solider, Belgian, American, then someone unexpected. Your Bother. He had died in the early years of the Seminal Catastrophe (WW1) and then the kaiser called for more which lead you here. Your bother then guided you to a field of poppies with civilians tending to it. You go to try and get directions but they don’t seem to notice you but then you hear them start to sing “In Flanders field”. You then piece it together. You are dead. you hear remnants of the war but can never find them. You then get out of your solider mentality and hug him. But as you hug brother he beckons you to follow him into the fields of flowers. the other soldiers follow. You then tear again. “Its over” “its finally over”.
Wars are started by old men in office and are fought by young men in work places.
We must learn and embrace the past so we can change it and move forward as a species. To god Take care of the men whole fought and died in the highest point in the alps, who died in the deepest shell crater, who died on the beaches of Gallipoli, who died on the Russian frontier, Who died in the deserts of Africa, who died defending old mens beliefs. May god guide you to eternal peace.

German here. The Great War and its outcome were a disaster for everyone. It saw the rise of the Soviet Union, instability in Europe, millions of deaths, both on the side of the Central Powers and the Entente. Europe and the World ran to suicide and death in WWI. Look at this cursed world of today, it was not worth it, and all formers nations of the central powers and the entente lay in ruins, shadows of their former selves. A brothers war, a war between between cousins, a war provoked by the dying empire of Austria Hungary, who dragged all of Europe in its grave. I hope we can remember how unjust this war was for both sides, and I hope we can remember the lives of the countess English, German, Hungarian, French, American and Italian soldiers who died in the war, among others.
Paz a los caídos, paz a esos que pelearon por su país,paz a esos que sacrificaron sus vidas por Su honor y familia😢

Its Beautiful and sad song💔🫡
I saw this poem on the USS Midway
Which year is this map
Honestly, the part of the song about nations that where "Scarce heard amid the guns below..." involving the Belgian Congo makes too much sense to me. The powers of WWI were all complicit in some form of human suffering across the world which extended beyond just the war in Europe (especially through their colonial possessions). How does a man from India feel about taking up arms for an Empire whose leadership is miles from their own society (just as an example)?
Did you manually add the flag to every country?
Yes, this is why I took this long to finnish this video.
@Yugoslav Partisan there are 2 ways that I do the flagmaps:
First way: I search for the country of the song and then if I find a good flagmap of that country I copy it add another layer below it that is the same shape of the original flagmap but is only black and add shade effect to this black layer.
Second way: If I can't find a good flagmap of what I need I either take a old map and trace it borders or I go do Google earth crop what I need and trace the borders of it and do the same thing of the black layer that I did in the first way.
And I do all of that using Paint.net

Oman at the time had a white flag with red arab writing and a sword.
And Mongolia has the wrong flag
The red flag was used by the Sultanate of Muscate and Oman that controlled most of modern Oman including the capital, while the white one was used by the Imamate of Oman that controlled the interior of Oman. As for Mongolia, the flag is correct, that is the flag of the Bogd Khanate that ruled Mongolia until the Mongolian revolution of 1921, and since they didn't had a rectangular flag I had to fill the blank parts with white.
