Well another great musician from my “Boomer” past leaves the stage. I was fortunate enough to see Mr Sanborn dozens and dozens of times. Guy always left me smiling. Thanks Dave, peace out.
Damn. All of the greats are slowly leaving us. This happened to be my favorite song by him. Rest in Peace Mr. Sanborn & thank you for all the great musical masterpieces. 🙏🏾💙🎷🎶
David Sanborn will be missed! Condolences to his family and his fans!
"God breathes through us so completely, so gently, we hardly feel it: yet it is our everything." 🌹
- John Coltrane, A Love Supreme
Thank you for a lifetime of stellar music Mr Sanborn 🥺
Rest In Peace David, you will be sorely missed. A huge loss to the music world 🥀🙏🏼🕊♥️🎷
So sad to learn of his transition...One of my all time favorites. Seeing him with Marcus Miller and George Duke on the same stage was GOLDEN. I remember when David was young back in St. Louis performing in the 70s and 80s. He'll be missed but remembered, just like George!
Sad day, these videos are the only thing left to see him, hear him, and remember the best of his unique sound.
Rest In Paradise Mr. Sanborn you will be missed gone but definitely not forgotten!!!😢
One of the greatest of all time.....RIP David Sanborn 🎷🎷🎷🎷🙏🙏🙏
This song always makes me think of Miami. RIP Mr Sanborn, you're already missed.
His legacy will live on through generations! #greatsax

His music lives on.

R.I.P Legend…😢
David Sanborn is one of the greatest sax players of all time. Smooth Jazz is truly universal !!!
Smooth jazz?
@@milesdust3465 what kind of jazz is that song though?
@@neozenshi9992 Well, it is not smooth-jazz.
David had me at "This is an old tune". Being old myself....Thanks. I'll be here all week. If I'm lucky. Peace!!!
Sanborn .... One my favorites tunes of his.... Chicago Song.
I had the pleasure of seeing this beautiful man at the Blue Note jazz club in NY. Awesome! A wonderful night of awesome music!
Absolutely the timeless iconic Sanborn song. Brilliant every time. Real music. Like the drummers playing a lot too.
David Sanborn is the truth! I love you !
In my top 5 . Great piece of music
SHIT!!!! Don't tell me this old!!!! Love this groove!
Joe Heid 1987 dude. Album version is a lot better in my opinion. The whole album I play it today whenever Im in that David Sanborn mood! Been A1 since day1
@@yvettebailey4066 I prefer this live-version because of the groove, made by acoustic drums. ❤🥁👍

Sanborn is a timbre innovator. Alto never sounded like that until he showed up.
Gutsy buddy!

you lucky shits 20yrs ago!!!
GRAAANDEEEEE!!!!!!
RIP
Sad 😪
That break at 2:34 reminds me of Slippery When Wet by the Commodores.
Perhaps a younger generation should listen to this. David at this time played a very bright but full throated multi-dimensional Alto sound - a difficult combination. I will not get into the technical details here. Take it from me - I am a Tenor and Alto Sax Player this was no easy task. The result was that Sandborn kicked -off a major revision in the way the Alto Sax could and would be played.
I need to listen to more of his songs. I’m only 19, but I think he’s great. I want to be a saxophonist (really cause of Kenny G but I wanted to broaden my horizon and listen to other saxophonists, and David Sanborn is one of them).
Spot on analysis.
I agree. The complexity of his timbre was so unique it influenced and changed the next generation of alto players.

Me llama la atención el amplificador de guitarra peavey acá en México muchísimos músicos no lo quieren
Perhaps someone could tell me, does David Sanborn keep his sax neck loose for a purpose ?
This is substandard for Sanborn and his band.
It's the Newport mix. Those nobs couldn't tweak a nob to save their fucking lives.
Every song and every gig live is going to be different, and more often than not a show is unpredictable no matter how good everybody is. That’s live music...
@@AlainQuinn Yes ma'am, you are right. I just listened to this again. It's really quite awesome. I've worked live TV and with live music along time. I think upon first listen, at the time, I expected something different.
Substandard? Come on, this ist a great performance! Groovy, tight, funky, burning. 🔥👏👍
Looks like they're playin in s bombed out bunker
I pray David Sanborn is a saved Born Again Beliver in Jesus. I couldn't think of spending an eternity without his music flowing out from the heart of that Alto Saxophone. God gifted talent no one has.
who cares about his religious beliefs. gimme a break.
Now he's with "god".
Take your stupidity somewhere else.
e esse Guitarrista ai fazendo policbinelo Academia Musical kkkkkkkk
He was good but i wouldn't say all time greats.
It was to soon
楽器を通じて 話しをしている様です ❓ 🤔
鳥達と接する時と同じ様に 👍 🤗
This is a timeless classic. I love this song when played by David Sanborn as well as a version I heard by Blake Aaron. Great tune.. The issue with this live version is that the bass player
is not holding down the bottom end. He is too much of a slapper and popper as opposed
to a bass player.
In all fairness...I believe Marcus Miller was the bassist on the album version of this tune...and that version had a lot of poppin and slappin.
@@JK-js2td .. and as he wrote the damn tune, he can probably slap & pop all he wants.. better than most.
Richard Patterson is one of the best in the business.
This is from an era where the bass had a dual function of harmony and complimenting the rhythm ensemble. It was hard to capture both in live performance. Today's sub-woofer-steam-roller bass playing doesn't apply to this music.
This is not rock and roll!!!! It’s fusion. What an ignorant statement.
Good guitar player but the shirt and pants, looks like you just came in from an all nighter.
Boomerdammerung
David deserves a better guitar player. Peace.
You're not gonna get a more world class guitarist than Dean Brown. Whether you want to believe it or not---he is what they call a "first call" musician. His resume is stacked. Read up on him
Whattttt???? Nothing peaceful about your statement!!! Judgemental and uneducated!!! Dean graduated from Berklee and is about as great as you can get. As the previous person replied, if you’re going to make a harsh statement like that at least know what you’re talking about.
All you need is a listen to Dean Brown at 2:05!! Says it all man. Bonus points for trying to get a jazz audience clapping their hands :-)
he might have had a shower and got out of his pajamas before the gig
What a shame. Waste of talent. Duck Ankles.
Saw him and Hiram Bullock at the Pallo Salari in New Mexico in 1987, just magical....
