    The Purolator Boss #PBL14610 is what I use for my 2020 Honda Civic LX, in conjunction with either Amsoil or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. I like the NAPA Platinum oil filter, as well. The extra costs buy me high end quality and peace of mind, so for me, it's worth it. Thanks for the comparisons, Pete.

    Yes there is a substantial price difference between the two. However overall cost of an oil change by $10 isn't that big of a deal with me.

    As the media on the two filters are different and distinct types, synthetic vs cellulose/blend, a direct comparison of area not really applicable. Full synthetic media is depth media, cellulose is surface media. The same would apply to the micro view comparison. The Bosch Premium has been made by Purolator, same plant as the Boss. The topic made in Mexico BP, not sure who is making it now. Could be M&H or someone else. The Purolator made BP was very similar to the Pure One PL14610, minus the ptfe coated sealing gasket. Disappointing the BP no longer made in US, no bueno. It also doesn't look near as well made. The Boss is the better filter but NOT for $17. For those cars, I got a case of Bosch 3422's that are US made by Purolator/Mann+Hummel for $2.50 each shipped. I cut two open along with a single Pure One and both are the same in every way including specs, so the Boss would just be different filter media than those two. The US made Bosch's I have, have nearly perfect pleat spacing with very little glue slop. The Boss isn't worth 5x-6x the cost unless you're doing extended OCIs IMO.

    I would go with the Boss, but if I wanted to go with an inexpensive filter, the Bosch looks like it would be a winner. I wouldn't want to use the Bosch with longer filter change intervals {Over 5000 miles} or if I drove my vehicle like someone who wants to tear their vehicle up. {Hard and fast. Someone who wants to pretend that they are race car drivers.}

    The p-boss filter is not worth the additional 3x+ cost vs the Bosch with it’s filter media at 99% down to was it 20micron which is good.
    At the $6 price point The Bosch filter is fine for 3k mile oil & filter changes,could go as much as 4-5k miles but that’s pushing it with its std fiber filter media.
    But If your doing 5k+ mile oil & filter changes & these were the only 2 filters avail I’d go with the p-boss filter.
    That’s due to the p-boss synthetic filter media thats also backed by some fort of mesh material too making it more higher mile resilient/youth.

    I ran 4 oil changes without changing the Purolator 20k filter, each time using full synthetic oil at 5k mile intervals for change. Did you do a test to see how the oil filter look like after 20k miles? I was told even if it's rated 20k miles you should change every 5k miles...so now I'm curious.

    • @WhipCityWrencher
      @WhipCityWrencher  Před 3 měsíci

      5K is a good oil change interval for most.
      Sure, the Boss filter will last that 20,000 miles in a clean engine, but in an engine that runs dirty with soot/carbon, it may get clogged up and run in bypass most of the time. 20K is just marketing hype. You can do your oil changes the way that you are doing them, but you'll be mixing used oil that's still in the oil filter with new oil every time you change your oil.17,000 miles is the longest OCI-used oil filter that I opened, here's a link, Thanks! czcams.com/video/ZEigd1Hu8s0/video.html

    Mid tier Bosch vs Top tier Purolator Boss....The workmanship on the Boss doesn't look so hot on the sloppy glue seam and uneven pleats. Although it shouldn't be on issue though I just like the neater pleats on the Boss. Plus the Boss is a full synthetic media.

    Wow!!! Well, first of all, you're comparing incomparable things: The *Bosch 3323* filter uses _Synthetic Blend media_ (which is actually not very different from ordinary cellulose paper in terms of filtration, but only provides better tensile strength and better resists soaking from water.) Therefore, it is correct to compare it with the filter *Purolator One PL14610* ( _Synthetic Blend media_ )
    Secondly, you give incomparable information on the screen at a price! On Amazon the delivery of this filter is free, on RockAuto it is a minimum of $5.99!!! On *Amazon as of Nov/18/2022* , the Purolator One PL14610 filter was $9.46 + state tax (Calculate for my Florida max possible rate in some places 7.5% + shipping.
    So: Purolator One PL14610 Amazon price $9.46x1.075+0=$10.17
    BOSH 3323 with RockAuto price $3.42x1.075 +$5.99=$9.67
    As you can see: at RockAuto - cheaper by 50 cents!!!😅
