      I saw cashier lady in convenience store, random office workers, posh rich people, undergraduate college kids and businessman grandpa all wearing Rolex, no doubt it is an excellent brand with great products loved by many but it’s does feel a bit generic. I think the main difference is that Breitling has many more attainable pieces and the Superocean isn’t their flagship. If you were to compare the quality of something like a Navitimer with a manufacture movement it would be on par with the Rolex. I’ve always found Breitling to make a more unique and eye catching watch.

    Never owned a luxury watch before, but have to say there is something about the Breitling that draws me in over the Rolex.

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  Před rokem +1

      My first "luxury watch" was an Omega SeaMaster 300m blue wave dial back in early '2000s. At point in time, it was an affordable timepiece at the authorized dealer but has appreciated well over 300% since then. My second luxury watch was a Breitling Super Avenger that I purchased in 2009. At that time, I went back and forth between Breitling and the Rolex store next door. At that time, Rolex had the old-style bracelets and didn't have the ceramic bezels. The Breitling was a more authoritative and expensive-looking timepiece, so I went with the Breitling. Since then I added the Breitling SuperOcean Heritage 42mm and the Rolex Submariner 114060. Breitling definitely makes a solid timepiece. Current-reference Rolexes are too expensive, even if any can be found in an authorized dealer. You check check out Tudor too! Tudor Black Bay 58 for example is a great timepiece! Most importantly, go with what suits your wrist and your personality the most! For more entry-level, Tissot PRX is amazing and also Oris makes some solid timepieces. If you have any specific questions, please ask and I'll try to post a video response! I'm not an expert but I've been collecting wristwatches for well over 30 years and have learned a lot throughout the journey.

    The difference between Rolex and a lot of other brands is that ALL Rolexes are finished to the best they can do. From Oyster Perpetual to Daytona. With most other brands you see the finishing steadily get better the more you spend at that brand. The cheapest Breitling will not have the same level of finishing (or case complexity) as their top-of-the-line watches. Which for me is perfectly fine, since it makes the lower-end models more reachable for more people. Rolex starts at a way higher price point than most mainstream brands, making it difficult to get into initially. But it does mean that whatever Rolex you buy, it will be very well made.

    For luxury watches… I own a Breitling Avenger II Seawolf in stainless with the yellow dial and a new Rolex Sea Dweller in stainless/black dial. The Breitling is by far the most attractive and garnishes the most attention but the build quality and the movement on the Rolex is miles ahead of the Breitling. The bezel clicks are crisper, the movement when adjusting the date and time is much more fluid and feels more precise. It also winds nicer. It’s very difficult to describe the differences but I do foresee the Rolex outlasting the Breitling. Twice now I have been unable to screw the crown down on the Breitling after winding it and adjusting the date and time. Both times I took it to the shop and by the time I got there the mechanism/gears must have meshed because the crown was once again able to be screwed down. It’s a far better built movement on the Rolex.

    • @IrixGuy
      @IrixGuy  Před 2 lety +1

      That is crazy about the Breitling’s crown! Yeah, both are great timepieces but Rolex is definitely ahead when it comes to overall quality, fit and finish. The only piece that I have that feels better made than Rolex is my Ulysse Nardin Maxi Marine diver. It’s hard to explain but the crown on it has an even more solid and reassuring feel than the Submariner.

      @antonhallergren588 Před 2 lety +1

      It's just a thing with the ETA 2824-2 even if Breitling modded it to hit above cosc spec it's not gonna be nice to wind. A cheap longines with a 2892 feels amazing to wind but that movement is not as robust as the 2824 hence why the Breitling uses the 2824. It's also cheap to service and the 2824 will run for just as long as a 3235 caliber in the new sea dwellers possibly even longer due to how easy it is to service.

    • @beri232
      @beri232 Před 2 lety +1

      @@antonhallergren588 cheap to service and built to last are 2 very different things though and for this price-point... I expect “built to last”. I bought both my Rolex and my Breitling from the same shop. They told me specifically that for the Breitling… I should make sure that the hours hand and minutes hand are both aimed downwards at the 6 on the dial before adjusting the date. The ETA movement can have problems over time if that is not adhered too. Of course, I was not informed of this until I took the watch in for the crown issue a year after purchase. Again, I love my Breitling and would never part with it but I would also not buy another. I will go with an Omega next time for the same money (I have not owned one as of yet) or spend a bit more and buy myself a Submariner.

    I have a 126610LV, 126710BLNR, and a 116519. I used to really like Rolex but I just find them so boring now (with the exception of my 116519). Good quality watches but incredibly boring (albeit “classic”) designs. I guess it’s great if your primary concern is how they’ll age. As I’ve been in this hobby for a while now, and knowing others that have been in the hobby for a while, it seems like a lot of us start to develop a palette with a thirst for more interesting and exciting pieces. Nothing wrong with Rolex but don’t find myself wearing the pieces much anymore. I will easily give up white gold hour markers/hands and 904L steel for a much more exciting experience that gets me excited to strap a watch on my wrist every morning. Personally I'm bored with Rolex, but I have to admit their quality and attention to details is a little above the others even on their basic stainless steel models. For example they use 904l steel, their hands are made of gold, and their platinum dust covered over the bezel, indices etc, higher magnetic resistance in their movements.. All these make them stand out than competitors even Breitling. Only Omega seem to challenge Rolex in all these little details. How I wish Breitling will up their ante, not just releasing new and cool designs and slap them with high price tags $10k and above.

    Nearly all these points are subjective rather than quality differences. Clasp is the only clear winner for Rolex in quality terms. The Breitlings bezel is clearly superior to the Rolex in that it is ceramic and screwed down. It’s absolutely rock solid. That’s one a piece and the rest of the subtle differences etc don’t really exist either way imo. The lume is a moot point. The Rolex is more of a tool watch, the Breitling is a heritage piece prioritising looks. The regular super ocean has much stronger zoom than the heritage. Both great watches but there isn’t any real quality difference either way imo.

    • @seayak
      @seayak Před 8 měsíci

      Are you really suggesting that the lugs on the Breitling are welded or bonded to the main part of the case? That doesn't seem very likely to me, and I certainly would not buy one if this were true. More likely this is just a hard inside corner of a machined one piece case. Many of the comparisons you make have nothing to do with quality. Many Seiko divers would have more lume than either of these watches, and even Steinhart homage divers have better water resistance ratings thatn the Submariner. Rolexes are superbly built and finished, but they are greatly overpriced compared with the competition in the current market. The cases on current Christopher Ward watches are fully equal in materials and execution to either of these, and many of us find their designs to be innovative and attractive. The comparisons you make are really apples and oranges, and seem to suggest that the only criterion actually at play here is the purchase price. .

      That rose gold with mesh looks amazing! I used to like Navitimer but that was back in the '90s. I know that it's arguably Breitling's most iconic timepiece but even if it had proper water resistance, I find it to be too large and too busy for today. If I was looking for something different from Breitling that isn't a diver, I'd be looking at Breitling Classic Avi! That's a great looking timepiece! Get one on leather to prevent the desire to get it wet. By the way, I also have the Breitling Super Avenger and that one leaked several times during my warranty period. I'd wash my hands with it but that's about it. I don't think that they should list stated water resistance so high for a timepiece that lacks screw-down pushers. Are you considering Breitling only? Rolex is always going to have more prestige and that's heavily linked to their marketing. With that said, all current reference Rolex timepieces have an in-house movement (Daytona used a Zenith movement in the past) and due to annual price increases that occur most years, they'll likely always continue to increase in value. Rolex and Tudor are both owned by the Hans Wilsdorf foundation. Breitling's brand image briefly changed but I think that they're back on the right track now. It will likely be impossible for Breitling or most any other wristwatch manufacturer (Omega, Patek Philipe, Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet, etc.) to ever de-throne Rolex in my opinion. I truly believe that's a great comparison. Thanks- there aren't too many of those. As a comment I can say that comparing this white gold + platinum Rolex to this lower version Breitling is already a big Breitling compliment. More so considering the cost of the massively overpriced and over marketed Rolex watch. I wonder though why Breitling shown here is a lower end model, but not the black dial, black ceramic, gold hands and indices Superocean Heritage II? The game would've been way more even. A second Breitling compliment I can say is that it didn't even try to be a Rolex clone (like the Tudor, Omega, Citizen, Rado etc, etc, look-alikes). Thirdly, it is unfortunate but when someone wears a Rolex so many ppl kinda doubt that's indeed the real deal or just another replica. For those who know it's real they praise it, but their inner voice says Oh boy- another one. Also, S.Seiko, Omega also other watches are indeed better than Rolex and are at least in par with Breitling. It is obvious the handsomely pretty gold on black Superocean Heritage II doesn't have those issues. Lastly, if for the experiment one puts Tudor lettering on the Rolex's dial, then that's the real Game Over for Rolex- a devastating price drop, people's interest also.

      I like Rolex but it’s too expensive on today’s market (I’m referring to MSRP) and there are a lot of better alternatives. Tudor is about to surpass unrealistic price territory too.

    Any Grand seiko diver is better than either one of these 2 overrated pieces. They are quality but you pay for watch recognition more than anything else.

      Grand Seiko finishings are top-notch but I’m not sure how I feel about the spring drive movement. It’s crazy…even Oris and Longines divers are becoming $$$$$$$$

    you make a comparison and you know nothing or almost nothing about Breitling. Typical Rolex guy. You don't know anything about other watches. Tragedy. If you are going to make a comparison, you would read about Breitling.

      I own several Breitlings and also Tudors with Breitling movements. I have a few Rolexes but Rolex definitely isn’t the best wristwatch on the market like many falsely assume.

      This is your answer for my comment ? ?? At this film you don't know even if Breitling have gold hands and is the logo gold?
      What are we even talking about? You didn't understand what I wrote. And you reply that you have more watches. Breakdown.

    I don't know much about watches and am shopping for my first, but the Tudor BB Pro comes with micro adjustment on the band, that doesn't really lend to Rolex's "quality" because Breitling doesn't have one on the SOH2. I could draw no good conclusion from the sound of the bezel clicking. I think the main takeaway and key point is that Rolex uses finer materials and the fact that its machined from one block of steel. I find lume is something that 6 year olds compare and is rather irrelevant, I kinda wish watch companies wouldn't add it, but it is what it is. Thanks for your video it helped me

      Be careful with the Tudor Black Bay Pro. You may find that the case is too thick ("wears tall on the wrist"). I highly recommend the Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy. The Breitling SOHII shark mesh bracelet is one of the most comfortable bracelets that I own. If you want a "one and done," I'd suggest saving up for a Submariner No Date. That's arguably the most perfect and unfortunately most popular wristwatch in the world. Also, at a lesser price point, check out some of the new Longines offerings and also the Tissot PRX series.
