The MARIO ARG/Creepypasta Fully Explained

- Over the course of a month and more, I have delved head-first into the mystery of the MARIO creepypasta of years yonder. What I didn't expect to find is that this rabbit hole would go down deep for 15+ years, involving several different rom hack copies of Mario World, scattershot internet references and web pages, and so much more.
What I found was a full-blown ARG, and one of the first of its kind - a video game alternate reality game.

Somehow M A R I O having homestuck gifs from 2011/2012 on his profile is understandable looking at the entire ARG they did. Same for My little pony gary's mod. Definately the type of individual to come up with this whole story.

I just realized that "time?" on Luigi's rom is actually him asking about time. Like someone with dementia.
asking time is not dementia unless he did recently check.
So in recap: A troll kid who really hated mlp (ironic cause he admits to be a brony) and TBBT, made a romhack for fun and started to make stuff up on the track; the entire story makes no sense, and was made to keep the attention of the ARG alive until he got bored and ditched the project entirely. For what it looks like, the romhack and the creator are now infamous around the forums from where it came out, if we tell by that pic depicting them as an idiot (or maybe it was just an angry anon, who knows).

The “icecreammonkeyfan” video is part of a separate arg by ChainmailChasers. I have seen multiple channels including blameitonjorge use this video as evidence when it’s just a horror project/arg that has nothing to do with the original. Just wanted to let you know.
He mentions later in the video that the icecreammonkeyfan was not part of the arg
Hey Peter, I'm halfway through this, and I think this would be an apt time to mention that the line "20 percent cooler" is a reference to one of Rainbow Dash's more infamous quotes from My Little Pony. You mentioned this main guy posting MLP pictures in gmod, right.. I suggest you take a look at those, since he's now made a direct reference to that in the midst of the mayhem.
He already mentioned it in the second video essay he blended
watching this reminds me of the godzilla NES Creepypasta, I remember first being introduced to it on a gmod roleplay server. Our friend convinced us to watch the full hour long reading and we all set up our couchs and other "chairs". That today is probably still my favorite Creepypasta, aswell as one of my favorite online memories.
the hey peter monologue bridge at 30 mins really stalls the entire video. just for constructive criticism, if you ever merge two videos again, you should cut something like that out and just seamlessly blend the two essays; a second video introduction in the middle of the video that we've already been watching for 30+ mins is not necessary. your viewers don't need to be reminded what they're watching and why it's so important that we continue to watch - we've been paying attention if we made it that far.
all in all this is a good video though and you've done well keeping up with this ARG! im glad to finally see it laid to rest. good reporting, mate, keep it up.
petscop and amanda the adventurer being referred to as a creepypasta now [because the internet loves throwing the word creepypasta at everything over the years] apparently upsets me greatly arghghghhh
petscop would be a unficton horror series[and is not a arg, despite what it is known as], and amanda would just be a horror game

EXACTLY! Creepypasta is not just any scary thing. It's an internet horror story made to be spread. I'm reluctant to even call r/no_sleep posts and two-sentence horror stories creepypastas, even though those are the closest surviving equivalents. Creepypastas don't really seem to exist in a major way now, the internet has changed so much since those days that spreading a horror story like that is pretty difficult.
@@mothgardener9735It's a mod for Super Mario 64 that sets you in a randomly layed out castle with I believe around 400 rooms and levels. It tries to replicate the style of early versions of the game with sound effects and textures from said early versions. It's very eerie since alot of the rooms and levels are pretty empty or "liminal"
It also has a whole bunch of easter eggs, with some being horror related.
Even if the "ARG" went into nothing, it was pretty great too see you dig up smth from 15 years ago and make the ppl that where involved actually appear to comment on it, super cool
Man I totally get feeling the need to preserve your memoriies. Memories make up almost the entirety of who we are so the prospect of losing them is scarier than any story.

Dang, this really was a wild ride, it all seemed ao unconnected, but I like your interpretation, a bit of a bummer how it concluded the way it did, but there is some niceities knowing it has an end. An awesome video regardless
when he said i wanted to investigate a creepypastas from his childhood, that reminded me of a couple stories and creepypastas that i tried to find but i cant find but ik are real and i watched, one was about a weird farm games and its name or the game play was about theses cows that made weird star milk or something, in that video their were 2 other stories but i cant remember them, another one was called the mario death whistle. the short of it was that when the guy would play it at time mario would be kill and hooked i think after hearing a whistle, another one was about a kid who kept going from foster home to foster home and to choose the military or the McDonald foster home or something after sometime weird things started to happen and i cant really remember. what i do remember is that at the end the kid (teenager) was in an empty city and was raining and he was telling his story from a laptop he found sitting somewhere. the last one and the one i really wanna find is about this guy whos world started to get over run by this McDonald like company. what would happen is that people would eat the food that was described as looking like gross flesh and organs, and everyone loved it but not the narrator. the narrator said that they refused to eat it, as time when on people who kept eating it for some time would become so fat and big that their heads would come off and float and i think the body would explode. there was this whole thing about him going to the factory where they made the food but i dont really remember. at the end of the story the said that all of the food in the world become this flesh thing and that even in his house that was all that was left and he tried it and he said that it was the best thing he ever ate and it ends.
The second one you mentioned is literally just called "Ronald McDonald House", should be easy enough to find :)

No clue on the farm one, the only creepypasta I can think of with weird milk is, "Hells pasture" which was a harvest moon story..
The death whistle one is, "Blood whistle" and is pretty infamous, I remember listening to, "Someordinarygamers" narrate it back in the day.
Had to go digging for the last story since I remembered it as well, pretty sure you're talking about, "Burgrr Entries"

if im gonna be honest, as a kid i always thought the MARIO rom was made by a serial killer with a good level of coding and rom making, and basically admitted to killing victim #1 (assuming victim #1 was a real person) and that this was basically his way of admitting / taunting the fact he committed murder and that he was still out there on the run

i’ve been falling asleep to creepypastas for like a decade. i used to use creepsmcpasta’s 24/7 livestream but had to stop bc i woke up part of the way through the M A R I O creepypasta and for whatever reason, it scared the absolute shit out of me. like i had to sleep with a light on for months afterwards & i could only listen to nonfiction stories to sleep. I WAS LIKE 19 WHEN IT HAPPENED.

I'm being hit with so much whiplash - this was my favorite creepypasta when i was a kid because it was *real* and playable and I had grown up being in to smw romhacking, the fact that this is an entire ARG makes me think I missed so much when I wanted it to be so much more when I was a kid. It's like the birthday clown that arrived every year to a party you never had time to go to

Oldroot is technically done, as the creator said that it has a complete story and ending, but that he has no hope for the ARG to be solved, as the codes and puzzles became extremely hard to finish, so he stepped out of the project entirely, prefering that it never gets concluded over needing to explain it himself.

MARIO theory: The player character Mario and the Mario commiting the murders aren't the same
1st: Mario gets reffered to in 3rd person by the narrator and Yoshi.
The narrator reffers to Mario in 3rd person. while this might have other reasons, Yoshi introduces themselves to you like you never knew them and reffers to Mario in 3rd person too.
2nd: Luigi is also different
While the creepypasta never adresses Luigi, if you play the rom hack in 2 player mode instead of Luigi's sprite having a slight alter unlike Mario's, He's completely different.
That vague dialogue reminds me of the text boxes from 'the (Coronation Day).

he basically his own take on the MARIO romhack, where Mario becomes self-aware and goes on a killing Rampage. However he's starting to lose his skin via code and turns into the famous deep fried image

I vividly remember a comment on the creepy pasta wiki from a few years ago of someone claiming to be the author saying plainly what the source of the victim1 image was, dont remember the exact detail they used other than it was something they heavily photoshopped and the only reason they're interjecting is because they were tired of seeing people suggest it was a mango. I just scanned the entire 10+ year old comment section to find no such comment. Maybe it's been deleted
