We were sent spiralling to non league football by an owner who took us out of league football, who then kept the self named ground, refused to put a 4th stand in, charges us crazy rent with no scope to grow as a club but we have slowly returned and after 25 years are back!!!!!!

Yes we were at the levels of Bolton, If we didn't sell Joey Beauchamp to West Ham we would have folded and again later when we sold Phil Whitehead to W.B.A. if we hadn't we would have gone out of business. Phil told me that he was driving back to Oxford and the club rang him to ask what he was doing, Phil told them he wanted to stay and was told there would be no club without him being sold

It’s good to see another southern team, remind a northern team, that just because you were one of the historic clubs, that made the earlier running in English football history, doesn’t give your club a god given right to be in the upper divisions. For a long time, many clubs south of Birmingham, were stuck outside the upper divisions, do to some archaic league structures, where the Football League were limiting promotion through insisting on keeping a regionalised division that sent only one club up a season. And a system where clubs were elected into the football league, rather promoted on merit, That’s why it took a long time for decently populated settlements like Oxford, Peterborough and Cambridge, to get Football league status itself. Fans like Bolton claim they ‘naturally’ belong in the top two divisions, because ‘history’. No you don’t. The new natural order is finding its feet, with an equal balance of north and south. Look at the PL, where the new established order, includes Brighton, Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth, and Fulham, and hopefully Ipswich and Southampton can reconsolidate.
