Lived in Bolton all my life and Charlie is spot on, It's gone terrible.
Everything is being planned for flats just lately, The Bus Station was closed and now planning *Student flats* (Side of courts you probably passed)
It's either flats or car parks so people can park coming to the town centre to see all the closed shops LOL!

Hi Charlie. I think you answered the question about why we don't have many trees in Bolton when you showed the low level cctv camera. Trees give shade from the sun and cctv. How can the council monitor everyone if foliage gets in the way? Better to be constantly watched and roast than have a pleasant environment. The irony that there's very little left to steal hasn't reached the council. The Crown court was covered with stone that was cut the wrong way and looked crap within months. In the wettest town in England most stone goes green but that started crumbling. There was a nice Barbara Hepworth piece outside it but it was moved in case anyone weighed it in as scrap.
    Welcome to Bolton...

yeah so much as changed since then.
The water place going was a big one then they removed all the trees and modernized the marketplace to make it look like a generic shopping centre (although the vaults and cinema is a decent upgrade), the Crompton place is pretty much empty due for demolition soon. I know a lot of towns have suffered due to online shopping etc but Bolton as gone downhill much quicker than other places.
Bury still seems to do well and doesn't face the problems to the same extent as us.
Bolton was a nice town, even in the early 2000s it was thriving but these last 10-15 years has seen the town massively spiral out of control. you can't walk through it now without a druggy asking you for money.
I now live in wales and everytime I do come to Bolton to see family and friends it's just so depressing

Bolton Council was run by Labour for decades until fairly recently and accepted one of the highest intakes of asylum seekers in the UK as it was a source of money from central government and a pool of future voters. Labour has finally been kicked out and the town now has a Conservative MP and a coalition Conservative lead Council. It's slowly improving. Charlie mentioned the lack of trees - a large project is about to start to add trees to the streets. It will take decades to reverse the damage inflicted, but it's possible and the town has potential. Bury Council about 5 miles away offers a blueprint and has transformed itself into far better place than Bolton.

I'm right with you Charlie, I worked in casinos for 2 years in Blackpool before going to the ships for 11 years in the casino department. In the 2 years on land I saw all kinds of gamblers. The taxi driver trying to double his fare he'd just earned, the chavs with expensive clothes trying to recoup the spending, the chinese trying to double their profits for the evening, the wealthier middle class who try their hand at a high roller table, and then the mature ones who have very little but decided that its a good night out. All mostly walk away with empty pockets, but will return the next day, and the next, etc. Do you remember a time in the early 2000's when advertising gambling became illegal? Well it's all changed now and it's the celebrities who are now endorsing this vile addiction on the people, it turns my stomach when I hear a new advert with a popular celeb, who's sold his/her soul for a tasty payout for themselves to endorse such a wicked addiction on the public. But alas we are all lambs to the slaughter and we're just going to keep feeding the oligarchs their riches until we are left to rot. Yeah a beautiful world we live in ☠️🌍 the world is broken 💔

Fred Dibnah . When he passed away the council has the chance to purchase his house and open it as a museum they never did . Bolton was built on steam it's what made Bolton . Most of his collection workshop and steam engines were sold off . The best the council could do was a statue and some random iron pump and to spend 1/2 million on surfacing the road to the heritage Center .
Bolton has a steam museum full of working engines in haliwell near Morrison's supermarket

It may not be cost effective but it is still good they were forced to stop. They only have to make the right choice to swear off them once, so it's at least possible. That's why I think every beggar, "homeless", and smackhead should be picked up every time for vagrancy, kept 24 hours, over and over again until the cummulative effect of enforced abstinence and maybe even just the sheer boredom of it makes them realise it's not worth the candle. Or at least makes them think about how not to get caught easily i.e, don't wander around begging in broad daylight because you will definitely always be arrested and always stay smack-free for 24 hours.

An aquarium. It's a fish prison. It's proof that humanity is still heartless, and still utterly backwards. The creatures imprisoned in that aquarium are used to entire oceans, seas, and rivers. Now, selfish man has stuck them in tiny tanks to be gawped at by disgusting, soulless, cretinous humans. They are animals with sentience, needs, and feelings. They are not mere objects of amusement. Aquaria are beyond cruel.

I used to do a facebook page called 'Bolton Clowncil', the videos had tens of thousands of views, it got taken down but the youtube is still up. Anyway, Council Leader Clifford Morris in 2014-2018 used emergency powers to circumvent the council chambers and Councillors, thereby making himself a dictator with the help of the Director of Place Stephen Young. He, by his own choice was known for hating trees, he removed the rain cover along Bradshaw Gate and had every tree in the town centre of Bolton destroyed. It was his and his alone choice, thankfully he's dead now.

We’ve had 14 years of Tory austerity. They’re neglecting Bolton because it’s a Labour town. But I think it’s about to change with the next election coming up in 6 months. If Labour actually win, Bolton will turn things around in no time. It’s got massive potential. You can see that in this video. I think you’ve made it out to be much worse than it actually is. There’s some proper shit rundown places in this country and Bolton isn’t one of them.
