      Indeed! It’s great to see. Bar the sounds, I think IRIS fixed up all the faults I found. I did actually post a little addendum video to the end of the review, but obviously that isn’t much use to people that have already seen it haha, so I’ve now posted the link above the changelog ; )

    The grob.... We meet again my old friend although my aircadet days are way behind me ( which is good! I only flew once and the rest of the time was just occupied sweeping up the squadron floor and putting the bins out) I do still remember the old grobs and bulldogs haha!

      Hahaha - I’m wondering if we weren’t on the same squadron Brad XD
      I was lucky in that I got to a do a half-decent amount of flying, but I spent 2 nights a week either doing drill, getting shouted at, or playing football - none of which I enjoy. It was usually a combination of all 3 haha. Put me off any ideas of joining the military for about 3 years thereafter ha.
      I think the virtual Air Cadets is much more chilled haha. Thanks as always, glad you enjoyed the video! : )

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations No way! Haha
      They kept bragging about how one cadet from that squadron managed to become a pilot (probably thier only prized possession) in the RAF but me, I couldn't see it as it was the same as you I never had any actual sporting skills so they hated me in that field (quite literally ;) ) was absolutely rubbish at football, running etc.....
      And I was like a Indonesian child labourer for the other half of the time just sweeping up hoovering carpets and getting shouted at probably for not making the tea the right colour hahaha... All this said and done and still they never actually let me go to any camps either!!
      So yeah... That's where my air cadet journey ended because after a year and a bit I had enough of that stuff and told them 'politely' to go and shove it up thiers

      This comment is so accurate 🤣😂 I was lucky enough to have gone to a small squadron where I was the most willing to wake up early and go flying. I was chosen almost every time but drill and football and being shouted at is what I remember the most… it was worth it but enough to put me off and go the civil route. I was lucky enough to get a Gliding scholarship to with then Grob109B which I would love to see come to the sim.

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 3 lety +1

      Hahaha, seems there are few disenfranchised cadets kicking around these parts! Perhaps I need to set us up with some sort of survivors group XD
      Bizarrely, very few people on my squadron actually wanted to go flying (I suppose spending 30 mins in the air and the rest of the day sat in a plastic chair was an acquired taste to be fair) so I pretty much got to go every time the opportunity came up. One of our family friends was actually an instructor on the 109B, so I used to pop down to the airfield of my own volition sometimes; I think I did more flying unofficially through the Air Cadets than I did officially haha.
      The other thing about flying with the cadets; whenever I went up in the G115, I always seemed to get paired up with a wing commander or some such. They were always perfectly pleasant, but I just spent the whole flight bricking it ha!
      I seem to recall FlyingIron have a G109B in X-Plane 11, maybe that’ll get ported over at some point as with the Spit : )
      Cheers!
      Also, they definitely weren’t paying for “power by the hour” in those 109Bs. We were always told we were going “gliding”. Not once do I recall anyone ever turning the engine off ha! Ahh, good times. . .

      The rudder issue in MSFS is a bit annoying. It’s quite a fundamental problem and it’s been that way since release (maaaybe it’s improved a little in the intervening period to be fair). It needs sorting though - being able to takeoff in a straight line is quite useful after all XD

    Nice vid as always IBS !...just reading the comments below ref air cadets. I never even realised there was such a thing as air cadets until I joined the RAF ( tac comms ) , did my training at RAF Cosford and if I remember there was an air cadet branch there, the regulars used to call them space cadets. Shame a few of you got shouted at and were made to sweep up the hangars etc....that was a part of training even for the regulars unfortunately, but once you got to your posting it was just a job with a uniform really. My first 2 weeks at RAF Brize Norton was working for the Station Warrant Officer, filling sandbags, painting anything that didn't move , white kerb stones and green grass lol !!...and this one, I thought they were joking , go to Base Hanger ( massive aircraft hangar at Brize Norton where the jets are serviced ) and polish the fuselage and wings of the VC-10s !! It was all good after that. Chocks away, cheers chaps !! ;-)

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety

      Thank you sir, glad you enjoyed it!
      Haha yeah, quite a lot of shouting, but I don't think that was really anyone's issue with being in the cadets (and I'm not averse to a bit of manual labour either); I certainly joined the cadets expecting a bit of both.
      I'm sure it varied from squadron to squadron, but I found there was a pervasive attitude of us being treated like children. Now sure, we were children haha, but I think most individuals who sign up for such things (myself included) wanted to learn discipline, responsibility, leadership, learn how to fly of course! etc. None of that ever really materialised; we weren't trained, or trusted with much of anything.
      The shouting was fine to a point, but it became a bit tedious after 2+ years (there was seemingly no end to "basic training" haha). It was just silly stuff; I got shouted at one week for having a hole in my jumper, which was the condition I had literally just received it in (we got all the old RAF hand-me-downs), I darned it and then got shouted at the next week for having darned it?? On another occasion I got a b*llocking for not volunteering for a swimming competition; never mind that 1) I had never been informed that it was taking place 2) I couldn't swim at the time haha! I know this kind of stuff is common during basic training, but I'm not sure what purpose it served in the cadet environment. There were clearly one or two individuals at my squadron, who simply enjoyed lauding it over kids (there were some amazing individuals as well of course!).
      The vast majority of my nights with the cadets were spent doing 1 hour of drill and then playing football. I'm rubbish at football and if playing it had been my interest, I'd have joined a football club! I wanted to be out there doing navigation exercises, teamwork exercises; even polishing aircraft would have been a dream ha!
      I do hope this isn't coming across as a moan; I look back on it now with a warm disdain (and a few nice memories) haha : D
      There were some fun times, but I joined the ATC because I was keen on joining the military; it put me off for quite a long time thereafter frankly (a shame I feel, looking back). I did subsequently spend some time with the RAF and the RN when I was older (RAF as a civilian and the Navy through University) and it was a whole different story (and quite eye opening!). Loved every minute of it and was treated like an officer and a gentleman throughout! : P
      Anyway, banged on a bit there, apologies. Almost like therapy at this point haha.
      Signing off - former Space Cadet! Cheers! : )

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety +1

      Ah, I’m very sorry to hear that Milan!
      The framerate seems to be a bit of a sim update 5 issue for me. I find whenever I look through the horizon, I get a noticeable stutter and I believe it’s because not enough scenery is now being cahced. Apparently Asobo will be adding a slider to adjust this in the next sim update. The ghosting is definitely a little bit trickier to nail down. . . Sometimes it’s fine, sometimes it’s not. I think for the most part if comes down to the lighting / colour palette in the sim, vs CZcams compression. Certain sim conditions seem to suffer badly during CZcams compression. The video quality certainly looks better before I upload to CZcams.
      That’s very kind of you to offer help and very much appreciated, but I think it’s just a question waiting for the next sim update for now. I also need to look into uploading videos at 2K at some point, see if that improves the CZcams compression situation for me. . .
      I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel - hopefully I can have a tinker around and improve the viewing enjoyment somewhat ; )

    Excellent video as always. - But I admit I watched only a part of it.
    Not happy with ISIS in P3D - and as always , another simplified and dumbed down aircraft for MSFS.
    Spoiled with A2A and DCS, the lack of switch sound effect and vibration on TO power drops my immersion instantly to zero. It is just irritating.
    So what is correct quality?
    Correct quality is what target audience expect and willing to pay.
    Why should a publisher waste hours on research (as A2A do with sensors in real aircraft) - and just throw in items that looks nice, when the target audience does not appreciate it or willing to pay for it. They move to a new aircraft next week anyway.
    Hope some day a publisher came up with several edition of same aircraft. Ref Majestic Q400 in 3 versions. Pick the study level you want and willing to pay.
    The MSFS do deservers better aircraft. It is really a good sim.
    My aircraft for now is PMDG DC6.
    I find the Justflight Arrow III - IV immersive
    And finally CRJ 700 . It kind of fake study level if you stick to procedures, and not try something like inflight shutdown.
    Those 3 aircraft covers my need a quick flight or a more detailed planned flight. And to be honest - I am quite happy as it is.......

      Fair enough, to each their own of course! As I say, personally I really enjoyed the IRIS G115 in FSX / P3D. In fairness to IRIS, they’ve fixed up almost every issue I brought up during the review and have started work on the switch sounds etc (not sure why that wasn’t done ahead of release - but that always seems to be the way these days doesn’t it. . .)
      I like your idea of having different tiers of aircraft, that could actually be a good way to go. I suspect though, that only very few developers have the required skills to produce an A2A level product etc.
      As you say, we are starting to see some decent aircraft coming into MSFS, so going forward hopefully there will be an increasing pool of quality products. It’s great you’re enjoying the ones you have anyway : )
      Cheers, all the best!

    Many thanks for the great video - really liked that you had a personal connection to the aircraft. I think its a smart looking aircraft and I like the cockpit layout - looks very neat and tidy. I also like the noise/pitch of the engine when taking off, in flight etc. She looks a bit squirrely on takeoff but I guess that keeps us honest as sim pilots :-). Did it handle like this in real life on takeoff? All the very best :-)

      I have flown this aircraft also. the aircraft doesn't feel as loose as the sim equivalent. It's an MSFS issue as far as i am aware with prop aircraft. the JF arrow collection does the same

      Yeah, it’s definitely an aircraft I have a bit of a soft spot for. Flew it a bit with the cadets, but even more so in the civilian world (albeit a slightly different variant). The real thing is lovely to fly; the RAF ones do tend to be kept pretty neat and tidy, as you might imagine. The civilian variants, often not so much haha.
      No, the squirrelly takeoff is very much an MSFS thing (which almost every aircraft suffers from). The rudder sensitivity in the sim is generally way over the top at the moment unfortunately. Hopefully Asobo get it fixed up at some point. Other than that though, the plane flies very nicely overall.
      Cheers, all the best! : )

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 3 lety

      Yes, sadly most aircraft in the sim are a bit overly sensitive - it’s a bit of an MSFS issue I would say (especially on the rudder). I think the Grob “gets away” with this more than most though, as the controls are obviously a bit sharper than your average GA aircraft anyway. I actually thought the IRIS Grob flew quite nicely compared with a lot of the other GA aircraft in the sim. You weren’t such a fan?

      Well. . . you have a much better ear than I do! Apparently IRIS are using the default Pitts sounds at the moment, which I gather has a six cylinder engine haha. Good catch! Not quite sure the logic was with that choice from IRIS. . .

    What a review. Thanks for this! So is that the original RAF Benson on the sim or is it an add-on? Also how are you moving the POV camera around like that?

      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 2 lety

      Thanks very much Len, glad you enjoyed it! : )
      It’s the default RAF Benson (would be great to see an addon version though). The camera work is courtesy of TrackIR. It’s a head tracking device than takes one’s head movement and inputs it into the sim. It’s great, although a little pricey - there are more cost effective solutions also mind you (Freetrack and FaceTrackNoIR spring to mind).
      Hope that helps a bit. All the best!

  • @Vigulfr
    @Vigulfr Před 3 lety

    Seems IRIS are having problems with the modern sound system for MSFS as they have similar problems with the Jabiru. Also according to the forum thread the engine sounds are just the default sounds from the Pitts Special. Bit of an odd choice too as the Pitts engine is a more powerful 6 cylinder variant of the one the Tutor actually uses. The Robin CAP 10 actually has the same 4 cylinder lycoming so dunno why they didn't use those engine sounds instead. Those control surface sounds sounded a bit default to me as well tbh but my hearing is pretty terrible so could be wrong there. Doesn't really bother me that much though.
    Sounds aside (and the minor graphical and other small issues) it doesn't look too bad. Doesn't really appeal much to me though so I'll give it a pass. Now if someone were to release a Bulldog I'd be all over that as it was the plane we had back in my Cadet days! Great video review as always! Your real life experiences really add a lot to your videos. Cheers!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, it seems so, they aren’t the only ones either. I forget who it was now, but I recall another developer had to take on a sound guy, because they just couldn’t figure their way around the new sound engine. That’s unfortunate if it’s not accessible for them, but I would suggest it’s worth outsourcing otherwise; I find myself really missing a proper sound package these days.
      That is a strange choice that they weren’t for the Pitts sounds then haha - they aren’t bad sounds, but the CAP10 audio would be more appropriate by the sounds of it then. I thought the controls sounded different, but I don’t have much of a musical ear either. Pretty sure the airframe creaking wasn’t default (again maybe it was, if it’s all just default Pitts), but usually default aircraft sound like the FS98 Sopwith Camel undercarriage noises when you pull any G ha.
      Credit to IRIS I must say. V2.1 fixed up just about everything (except the sounds). It’s a nice offering but hey, if it’s not for you, it’s not for you! Never flown a Bulldog, but I’d still like one in the sim. Even more-so a Chipmunk (which I believe is slated already).

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations A Chippie would be awesome, loved flying the JF or was it AH version in the older sims. @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 3 lety +1

      Of course! That’s the seat of the “big boss’ “ seat in the Grob ; )
      On the T.1 the PIC generally sits on the right, the student sits on the left (at least in the Air Cadets) - as you can see, the instrument panel is setup to fly it from the right. I’m guessing it’s so that when guys then transition onto fast jets, they are already used to flying right hand on the stick and left on the throttle. On the civilian versions of the G115, it’s the other way around, ie pilot flying sits in the left seat.
      Cheers! : )

    Hmmm, I thought after watching one of your previous videos that was nice and smooth that the CPU upgrade had fixed the choppy videos, but it seems not. What is causing this I wonder.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  Před 3 lety

      Haha, damn. I think the CPU did the trick in some respects. Overall the sim is much smoother I think. My issue now is when looking up or down through the horizon. I did a little reading, seems that now the sim isn’t caching much to the memory, it’s getting a bit overwhelmed when scenery comes back into view (great that I bought all that nice speedy RAM haha). I think TrackIR exacerbates the effect which is a pain (I find if I pan more slowly, the issue isn’t noticeable).
      Apparently Asobo are going to give us a slider to adjust how much is culled / cached, so hopeful (as ever) I will be able to crank that up a bit with my new RAM and that will eliminate the issue. We’ll see. . .
      Cheers!

      Funny you say that Stewie, cos I was re-watching one of my old P3D vids with the Grob before I made this video;
      when I was watching the P3D vid I was thinking “wow, things have moved on so much with MSFS”, but then when I went back into MSFS I thought “huh. Actually the scenery looks worse” haha. That was using Orbx True Earth GB to be fair though.
      Personally I think the lighting and weather are drastically better in MSFS, but addon scenery in P3D / FSX vs standard MSFS scenery - I think P3D / FSX still has the edge. . .
