They sound great, just two comments: 1) Owners of the Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition should have $100 off, and 2) All these projects that Ryan composes for Eastwest should be posted in a repository so owners or subscribers to Composer Cloud can download them and see how he did all the MIDI programming and learn from them.

I've been a Composer Cloud subscriber for a few months now. A couple of weeks ago, I signed my first library deal, to write an album of TV cues ('Human Stories'). The library director advised me to find good strings samples and I told him, over the phone that HS2 was coming soon. I was crossing my fingers that it would be a good as I hoped. It doesn't sound good from this demo. IT SOUNDS AMAZING! Thank you. :)
@@EWQLTutorials Quick question: Can I switch in between all those articulations within the same instance of 1st Violins? Or do I need to load multiple instances of the same instrument to have all the articulations at my disposal?
Hey all! Hope you enjoy the walkthrough. If you have any questions about HS2 specifically, drop them below this comment and I"ll answer them to the best of my ability! Cheers.
Hey Ryan, great job making this walkthrough! Does HS2 sound good when layered over another string library, such as the original Hollywood strings? Or is it more viable to just use HS2 on its own?
@@BinkusTheTrinkus Yes! It works beautifully for divisi work as well; you can have 2 violin 1 sections and 2 violin 2 sections, etc. etc. and it doesn't sound too dense. I would use these similar to how you might use a solo patch in the context of a larger string orchestra--if a line is lacking definition/punch in the mix, mix in a bit of one of these sections and it'll pop.
Are there some smaller sections for each of the instrument groups? For example the 4 Violins and 3 Cellos section like in Symphonic Orchestra? I always wished there was more than just 1 articulation for those sections.
Great stuff and walkthrough, thanks so much! I was wondering whether or not it were possible to attach your beautiful demo projects for studying purposes.
Eastwest❤!! A lot of companies with different software are using a cloud system. With most of ygem i always think that it is a lot of money but that's ok. With you I feel like it deserve every penny!!!! Thank you guys! I have my second job scoring an esidode for a TV show and for my first two jobs I have been using EastWest libraries!
Guys, this is torture for us :) Let us already get our hands on Hollywood Strings 2, we can't wait another week for the release. You guys are great as always!
I absolutely LOVE the format of this particular walk-through, where you go through each articulation for each instrument on its own to give us a feel for the sounds, followed by a piece of all in context. This video seems more concise and detailed than previous, perhaps because it is a smaller set of instruments. Either way, just wanted to say that I found it very informative and enjoyable to watch. This looks (and sounds) like a most excellent library! Thanks Ryan!
I've been looking for a great sounding, close miked chamber strings for YEARS. One of your competitor's famous chamber library was unusable for me for all that time, as it was too wet. HS2 sounds just perfect. What a sound!
Brand new to East West Libraries so just getting acquainted with Composer Cloud. The library itself sounds incredible, but I really wanted to mention how stunning these compositions are. Thank you for sharing.
With every new library you guys are releasing, you’re changing the game every single time! This is just incredible 🔥 Can’t wait to grab me a copy of it as soon as it comes out 🫡
Absolutely superb overview. Thanks, Ryan. I am so stoked to begin using this library. It really does have that intimacy that is not present in the other libraries, and it sounds sublime.
I have so many string libs now but I always love chamber sound more for the music I write and this is just beautiful. I bought Hollywood Strings back in the day at it's original price, for this one I think I'll subscribe for a while and see what other new stuff EW has been putting out.
I have a wonderful idea, seeing how I have been drooling over these for a month now and have pre-ordered, perhaps you could accidentally release them tonight so I can get working 😍
Where was this library 2 months ago? I used the regular Hollywood Strings Opus for a Pop-Rock Song instead! Can't complain, but come on 😂 Totally gonna buy this! Brilliant job
While I don't really have a use for this library at the moment, this sounds amazing! I was a bit disappointed with Audio Imperia's Dolce, so it's really cool to see a very high quality chamber strings library!
There are some good and even some great orch/strings libs outthere but one companys destroys them all with their current releases and even demos^^ But this release could be equally amazing. Am Impressed. Nice to have the ComposerCloud:)))
Everything sounds phenomenal, except for the 1st violins. I can't quite place it, but something in the 1st violin legatos just sounds a bit 'off' to me. Everything else is great though, especially the violas. And it is great to have staccatos that are actually short! So many libraries are pretty loose with the staccatos, making them much longer than the spiccs. What you call 'staccato runs' here is about the shortest staccato found in most libraries. There's been several times I have wanted something as short or nearly as short as a spiccato, but without the distinctive attack from the bow being bounced off the strings. Are there any plans for woodwind and brass in this style too? I think having 2 players per section instead of 3 like in Hollywood Woodwinds could work well for the "main" sections (flutes, clarinets, oboes, and bassoons). Especially if we had each player available as a solo, plus the two recorded together (not just layering the two solo recordings). That would give a great amount of control over the sound. Then the other instruments (alto flute, piccolo, bass clarinet, etc.) have just single players like in Hollywood Woodwinds. And for the brass, maybe you could have alternate sections like flugelhorns in place of trumpets. And euphoniums, perhaps in place of tenor trombones. Both are a bit 'softer' sounding due to the conical bore, and I think they would be a great inclusion for a small, intimate brass library.
Great, thanks for that. A wonderful update. Could you please tell me what reverb you are using in this demo video? Many thanks for your response in advance.
Hello. I am a Composer Cloud subscriber, and I don't see access to these wonderful sounds available yet. Are they not available yet or is it just my problem? After watching your video I am even more eager to have these sounds. Thank you very much for your videos. I always learn something. And always always for your excellent use of the mod wheel. Thanks for everything
I'm really enjoying HS2. But, the instrumentation abbreviations are as confusing (for me) as always. I've checked the manual for a glossary and can't see it. Do you have a list of short-form instrument names with their full names, anywhere online - and of not, are you planning it?
There's full names in the articulations list in the manual - media.soundsonline.com/manuals/EW-Hollywood-Strings-2-User-Manual.pdf#page=37 - but also if you click on an instrument in the Browse tab and look up in the description box, it fully lists the articulation and information about how that particular instrument functions.
If you pre-order before the April 25th release day, the cost is $399 and it also includes a free copy of String Machine ($149 value). You can also get Hollywood Strings 2 (as well as all of our products) with a ComposerCloud+ subscription for $19.99/month or $149/year.
I think it's a different type of string orchestra because when you enter where you see the microphone arrangement you can see that in the previous version it was a complete orchestra and in the new one it's just strings
From the Play > Articulations panel you could adjust the Midi note the KS instruments are on by default, or change from a keyswitch to a program change, velocity sensitivity, or Midi CC control
You can get a small keyboard without velocity or anything, like a 25 key super cheap one, set it to start at the lowest C-2, and dedicate it to articulation changes. Or e.g. an Akai APC Mini Mk2, that gives you 64 notes in NOTE mode, starting at C-2. That also gives you 9 faders you can map to various CCs. The keyswitch data doesnt have to come from the same device as your main 61 key player.
