Can we just take a minute to talk about how Elizabeth was one of the main focuses of this franchise, if not THE MAIN FOCUS? Along with her rousing speech, this awe-inspiring scene, and every scene she is in until the end of the film, shows how far she has come since the first film. She started out as the governors daughter. When she was a girl, she rescued a boy who was drowning in the water half-dead. She discovered he was a pirate and was kidnapped eight years later by the pirates that were hunting HIM. This boy, now a man, came to her rescue and they fell in love. Then, their marriage was halted because of their involvement in freeing Jack Sparrow. She went on the run, became a pirate herself and soon after was almost killed when the 'Black Pearl' was attacked by the Kraken! She left Jack to die to save everyone else and had to live with that guilt even after they rescued him from Davy Jones Locker. She LOST HER FATHER and then found out her old flame has indirect involvement in her father's death. That old flame then came to rescue her when she was captured again, and gave his life to help her escape. Soon after she was elected Pirate King, and single-handedly put in charge of leading the Pirate Brethren to war with Lord Beckett and Davy Jones. During the battle, the man she loved more than anything was killed, mere minutes after they were wed! He's resurrected as the new captain of the Flying Dutchman, and now they can only be together one day every ten years! Captain Jack Sparrow may have been the main character, but Elizabeth Swann was the focus of the entire story. And this pivotal scene, where she rallies a bunch of frightened bilge rats to stand up and fight for their freedom, their way of life... This is the moment she takes center-stage as the ultimate hero of the story. LOVE LIVE THE PIRATE KING! LONG LIVE CAPTAIN ELIZABETH SWANN! Rant over.

The wind is in our side, boys. That's all we need. Pirates: From the real-life thugs into the fictional heroes. When the law becomes tyranny, the rebellion becomes duty.
I swear this scene holds just as much power as it did back in 2007! I can’t help but feel the exhilaration and goosebumps overwhelm my body every time. Such a masterful scene, such a masterful score, such a masterful film!!
I know I am late but man all I can think about is the growth that Elizabeth went through to become King of the Pirates. Everyone talks about we need strong women but every forgets the fan girl becoming King of the Pirates.
Parents and media always taught us "piracy is a bad thing". Pirates of the Caribbean taught us that pirates were free men fighting against monarchy and oppression.
I can see why some people didn't care much for the side characters for this film, but honestly I can see why the other pirates weren't needed. They knew that the Dutchman was a force that could wreak any of the other ships, and that the Black Pearl was the only ship that could stand stern to stern with her. And only if the Pearl asked for it, would the other Pirate Lords interfere and join the fight. Obviously, near the end, the other Pirate Lords would've helped the Pearl fight Beckett and his men, seeing as it would take at least all of the ships on standby to take Beckett's ship down, but when the Dutchman resurfaced and sailed alongside Beckett's ship as the Black Pearl was doing on the other side and opened fire on Beckett and his men, they knew it was best not to interfere. And when the rest of the fleet accompanying Beckett way off in the distance saw Beckett go down with his ship, they knew darn well they wouldn't stand a chance against either the Black Pearl or the Dutchman, seeing as they're enchanted ships that can take a licking and keep on going, hence why they retreated and why we never got to see an epic naval war between the Pirate Lords and the Naval forces of the East Indian Trading Company.
The Endeavor, Beckett's ship was a first-rate ship of the line. The Dutchman appears to be a second-rate and the Pearl a Galleon. The Pearl would've been torn apart by a near 60 gun salvo if it took on the Endeavor alone. It's a good thing the Dutchman resurfaced, as it's side guns (most likely numbering in the mid 30s) would be more than capable of taking out the Endeavor. But analyzing the EIC fleet, it was entirely 1st and 2nd-rates. Losing a flagship however is very demoralizing, especially one as large and impressive as the Endeavor. No wonder the EIC retreated.
'Hoist the colours!' 'Hoist the colours!' 'Hoist the colours!' 'Moist all comers!' 'Jesus Christ, Craig. You just couldn't let us have an epic moment, could you?'
I guess they didn't have the budget and wanted to make the fight focus on the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman, but I would have loved seeing the Brethren fleet fight the Royal Navy. At the very least, we could have seen the shock on the Navy's faces upon seeing the destruction of the Endeavor only to realize too late that the Brethren had formed a massive firing line, or we could have seen them engage ship to ship before the Navy retreated.
It’s disappointing that more movies nowadays can’t seem to pull this sort of thing off. Like, “Avengers Assemble” was good, but it could have been better. Personally, the more memorable moment in that scene was “on your left”. Because cap’s like felt like it was just a catchphrase, where Sam’s line was delivered at the perfect moment, when Cap is at his lowest point, it was at the emotional apex of the scene. Same with this scene. Elizabeth’s speech, and most epic speeches, serve to hype up the crowd and the characters to build up to that moment. It’s sad we don’t see more of it in modern day cinema.

I think the Black Pearl’s flag was the most powerful for me, not only because it’s the classic Jolly Roger, but because it was semi-translucent in comparison, making it seem almost ethereal
I agree 100%!! Out of all the flags, it is the most recognizable (as you mention), and the way its symbol is fully revealed as it first catches the wind is beyond epic! I think it's also worth noting that they saved the "best for last" at the peak of the orchestral score, so they definitely wanted to draw attention to it. And when all the flags are raising on the same screen with the Jolly Roger front and center with that drum roll at the end...pure chills!
This scene sends so many chills down my spine because I picture this is the speech the purates made during the final battle with wast India trading company that crippled EIC beyond compare and caused them to lose territories and unable to quell rebellions
Love this scene, but find it absolutely hilarious how the Pearl is the only ship there that actually participates in the battle. Same can be said for the opposition, though. Just the Pearl vs. the Dutchman vs. the Endeavor.
I didn't realize it at the time but all sorts of pirates from east and west cultures came together to fight the british occupation and Davy Jones. It's honestly beautiful.
I like how calypso basically made it a fair fight by putting the wind behind the pearl, which meant that the pearl was with the wind, and at its fastest, and the dutchman was against the wind, and therefor at its fastest as well.
@@thisiswrathspeaking2057 just before the final kraken fight in dead mans chest "How are we gaining?" The dutchman is faster against the wind, thats how she takes her prey, but with the wind "We are the faster ship!" Aye
If I remember right Beckett says they have a favourable wind as well as mister Gibbs. Calypso made opposing winds. That’s why you get the maelstrom forming in the middle. So you’re right! It was a fair fight! But they both have the wind on their side, no one is against it.
@@jayjacob3789 I think its not that the dutchman gets faster against the wind but other ships gets slower against the wind while the dutchman doesn’t need wind to sail since its a cursed ship
Yes. A bunch of sloops, brigs, and small frigates are going to fight a fleet of 74s, large frigates, and at least one First Rate. Because that makes even a little bit of sense.
Also, apparently it is POTC canon that East India Trading Company in 1729 had over 300 warships. These warships appear to range in size from brigs to Third Rate Men o' War. While the East India Company was a powerful company, the cost of such a fleet of WARSHIPS, not to mention having a three decked FIRST RATE SHIP OF THE FUCKING LINE!!!!!! will boggle your mind. HMS Endeavour, Beckett's flagship, was a 110-gun First Rate. This is not a cheap ship and, also, not a ship that would EVER be sent to the Caribbean. Especially not in the hands of the Company. One First Rate would be an equivalent national investment to SEVERAL fleet aircraft carriers. At the height of the Napoleonic Wars nearly a century later, the Royal Navy had SEVEN First Rates. If the Royal Navy had a First Rate in 1729, which they had a couple, they would be in England pointing at France. Not leading a Company Fleet to fight pirates. In 1720, France had 48,000 tons of ships and they had the third largest ocean going navy in Europe. The Dutch, England's other major rival at the time, had 79,000 tons and England had 174,000 tons. By 1730, France had grown her fleet to 73,000 tons and was equalled by Spain. England had grown her fleet to 189,000 tons. No one, anywhere in the world, had 300 ships of between 200 and 2,500 tons to send off to go fight pirates. The largest ship likely to be seen in the New World at this time would be a 4th Rate of 50 guns, maybe a few more. Most likely would be 5th and 6th Rate Frigates of 20-40 guns and brigs and sloops of 4 to 18 guns. This entire sequence makes no sense. Hell, the whole premise of Pirates uniting to fight the EIC makes no sense.
Actually I think EEIC has more of heavy duty ships, like 2nd Rates, First Rates, hell even perhaps one or two HMS class ships. Even a freaking Man O' War and perhaps War Galleons too. But sometimes speed like that of the Black Pearl is good too. I don't know, I just defeated 3 First Rates using just a Man O' War in the game The Pirates: The Caribbean Hunt.
funny thing is that they never actually fought anyone because them damn redcoats ran away because of a ghost ship that turned sides or whatever I still love this movie
Good scene but i feel they missed an opportunity here by not having the entire pirate fleet start singing the song again and then cutting to Beckett as his first mate says “sir they’ve started singing” lol
This was good, nevertheless it had no payoff. I mean, I loved the fight between the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman, but we had two fleets here. The best cinematic naval battle could've taken place and it was denied.
Disney's epic good-vs-evil battles are always the same juvenile formula: - Both sides bring mighty numbers to the epic clash, but only the hero vs the bully (and maybe a couple of sidekicks) actually fight while everyone else simply observes events from the edges. - The combat is strictly turn-based (although sometimes the bad guy uses treachery to get an extra attack turn).
@@pwnmeisterage It would've been amazing to see a battle like the one that was set up. The heavily outnumbered and outgunned (but highly experienced and unpredictable) pirate fleet vs the EIC fleet and the Dutchman. Would've been one for the ages. Massive line battles fascinate me for some reason.
@@rebelgaming1.5.14 while awesome, you never would have been able to follow a battle like that. your talking hundreds of ships that would be engaging in cannon fire, boarding actions etc all at the same time.
This seems less powerful than I remember. When I saw this the first time I was practically shivering with giddiness! After all, The Colors are basically the most important thing on the battlefield. In ye olden days, if you managed to capture the enemy's flag, you have defeated them.
Would be better if it was england, france, spain, and maybe even the US vs pirates. Then they would be completely outnumbered and the scene would look better, because tbh the pirates could probably take on the british navy alone.

Sorry, just wanted to say I read the title as “Moist the Colors.” I’m tired.
'Moist the colors' need some explanaition. Please do. Ø_Ø
@@Ulvetann I was very tired, I saw “-oist” before seeing the first letter and my brain filled it in as “moist.” “Moist the colours.”
Well, painting with dry colours is a bit of a cumbersome task.
To be fair, everything on board is probably slightly moist
Brilliant seeing all the pirates raising the colours together. But for me the soundtrack really ties it all together. Hans Zimmer is a genius
that's all we need
HOIST THE COLOURS!
AYEEEEE
The wind is on our side boys that's all we need
All these energy just to watch homies in Black Pearl fighting alone with the Dutchman from the back....
Who ever said a noble woman can’t be a pirate had never met Elizabeth Swan!
And then the Black Pearl was the only ship to do anything
Love that all the pirate lords (even Elisabeth) stayed silent while they hoist the colors, because they knew that they will face certain doom....
"If this is the end of the Age of Piracy, then let's make it an end everyone will remember."
Parents and media always taught us "piracy is a bad thing".
Pirates of the Caribbean taught us that pirates were free men fighting against monarchy and oppression.
Keira Knightley's outfit in this scene is just amazing!
Man, the soundtrack makes it even greater.
This always make me teary-eyed and want to scream for victory
'Hoist the colours!'
'Hoist the colours!'
'Hoist the colours!'
'Moist all comers!'
'Jesus Christ, Craig.
Too all the heroes and warriors who fought for freedom and virtue, but were slain and rewritten from history, we salute you.
Man: This and Dead Man'd Chest Is So Underratted yet so good and fulfilling
It's not underrated. This movie, apart from endgame, has one of the best scenes I've ever seen in a movie.
Underatted? Definitely could use more rats!

I like this scene right from " The sweat of our 'brouse, and the strength of our backs and the courage of our hearts, gentlemen " said before "hoist the colours". But yeah, it's what that comes after, the theme track and the visuals of all the pirates uniting gives the goosebumps.
This scene always gives my goosebumps
That 1 unlike is the Commodore
more like davy jones or becket
@@moonknight5743 Most likely Beckett
It's nothing personal Luca it's just good business 😌
Beckett *going to war*
also Beckett: so anyway, I started drinking
Does this scene still give you chills or is it just me
This is my favorite scene of the Pirates movies. It's a very emotional scene for me.
That Must be Played in the Last Battle of luffy and the straw hats + all the Pirates vs. The World Goverment 🙌
The last thing they'll see will be the smile of Jolly Roger!
You gotta love Gibbs, he's a old fashioned sea dog, "the winds on our side boys, that's all we need"
still getting goose bumps after watching this scene over and over
One of my favorite scenes in the ENTIRE Pirates series.
This scene sends so many chills down my spine because I picture this is the speech the purates made during the final battle with wast India trading company that crippled EIC beyond compare and caused them to lose territories and unable to quell rebellions
*HOIST THE COLOURS!!!* 🏴☠️
*THE WINDS ON OUR SIDE !*

Ay! Hoist the colors! 🏴☠️
But sire, our troops?!
@@hellbusterdragon WAHT TROOOPS?!?!?!
Seen this seen so many times. Still gives me goosebumps
This is my favorite Pirate of the Carribean out of all the movies they made.
Man, I love the score. So inspiring.
Sometimes, I forget how amazing the Pirates soundtracks are. Then a Pirates clip shows up in my recommended.
So sad that most of these pirates will die by the dead hands of Salazar...
A really inspiring moment in that film!
Something like that is just so emotional and inspiring!
Define Epicness in a scene, without a battle started yet, just hoisting the colors and finally seeing the Jolly Roger and Calico Jack flags!
First 3 movies will always be the best. The first movie introduction to Jack sparrow will forever be the best entrance scene to a character
I like how during the battle all the other ships just watched lol
they were fighting the navy which came with Dutchman
When you need an entire crew to raise one single flag :')
I expected all ships to raise the exact same hackneyed black and white skull flag lol
Bro finally I thought that was the case
*runs up a black canvas flag with a bloodied five-cent piece standard*
FOR ALL OF NOTHING!!
I like how calypso basically made it a fair fight by putting the wind behind the pearl, which meant that the pearl was with the wind, and at its fastest, and the dutchman was against the wind, and therefor at its fastest as well.
wait was that rule for the dutchman ever told? or was it something like an extra info?
@@thisiswrathspeaking2057 just before the final kraken fight in dead mans chest
"How are we gaining?"
The dutchman is faster against the wind, thats how she takes her prey, but with the wind
"We are the faster ship!"
Aye
If I remember right Beckett says they have a favourable wind as well as mister Gibbs. Calypso made opposing winds. That’s why you get the maelstrom forming in the middle.
So you’re right! It was a fair fight! But they both have the wind on their side, no one is against it.
@@jayjacob3789 I think its not that the dutchman gets faster against the wind but other ships gets slower against the wind while the dutchman doesn’t need wind to sail since its a cursed ship
@@jayjacob3789 Being against the wind doesn’t speed up the Dutchman, it just doesn’t slow it down as much as other ships.
I don't know, I just defeated 3 First Rates using just a Man O' War in the game The Pirates: The Caribbean Hunt.
funny thing is that they never actually fought anyone because them damn redcoats ran away because of a ghost ship that turned sides or whatever
I still love this movie
Kinda makes sense lmao, pirate only cares about himself -> there's no way i'm fighting this ghost ship leaded by krakenface mate, i'm out
One of the most memorable scenes! Pirate🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
Good scene but i feel they missed an opportunity here by not having the entire pirate fleet start singing the song again and then cutting to Beckett as his first mate says “sir they’ve started singing” lol
This is at least 10x better than “Avengers Assemble” could ever hope to be.
Gives me chills even when I never watched this one fully
An amazing scene. I wish you’d included her speech, but still awesome just the same. Keep creating great pieces and vids!
If only they had the budget to make a giant fleet battle rather than a few ships duking it out around a maelstrom.
Funny thing is, this has like one of the highest budgets of any film ever
But why is the RUM gone???
Not sure Captain but I got some GUARMA rum if you want it
Because the fucking Kraken needed to be blasted
@@K_ingh16 that will do, thanks Arthur
If one piece doesn't have an ending like that we riot
This was good, nevertheless it had no payoff. I mean, I loved the fight between the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman, but we had two fleets here. The best cinematic naval battle could've taken place and it was denied.
Disney's epic good-vs-evil battles are always the same juvenile formula:
- Both sides bring mighty numbers to the epic clash, but only the hero vs the bully (and maybe a couple of sidekicks) actually fight while everyone else simply observes events from the edges.
She makes a great girl pirate, there is no other movies she has yet like the presence she carries in this film
One of the best scenes in one of the greatest movie franchises ever!!
This seems less powerful than I remember. When I saw this the first time I was practically shivering with giddiness! After all, The Colors are basically the most important thing on the battlefield. In ye olden days, if you managed to capture the enemy's flag, you have defeated them.
And in line battles, if a ship 'Struck' its colors, that meant that the vessel surrendered, and was yours for the taking.
Was thinking that the one piece final war might be like these when all pirates are united.
The flag of Bartholomew Roberts, as a direct descendant, and saw this in theaters, I was legit crying I was so happy.
THE "KING" OF PIRATES REUNITED ALL PIRATES YEAAAAAAH HOIST THE COLOOORS
I really wish I saw this when it came out in theatre, so good
Would be better if all ships engage in a epic battle..
Would be better if it was england, france, spain, and maybe even the US vs pirates. Then they would be completely outnumbered and the scene would look better, because tbh the pirates could probably take on the british navy alone.
For me, this is the most epic scene of the saga.❤❤❤
So many cool costumes and characters in one minute.

Pirates: Hold My RUM

Best movie of the franchise, hands down. If there's one franchise I have to love more than star wars, it's this one. But no franchise will come higher on my list than that.
They're all so excited and proud and then only the one bloody ship does anything while the rest watch.
All right, so the movie had a whole armada with the East India trading company against all the pirate lords, yet only 3 ships actually fought
It be the most epic film scene I've ever seen... 💖
Seeing this in theaters as a kid i was hype asf. Hoist the colors!!!
This movie is my guilty pleasure. I know objectively its overdone, and crowded, but I love it.
