This little unit works like a charm. Cool 450 living room fast! I especially like the timer feature, I set it to start just before I get home from work, like it was never off.
Have owned this for 3 years and still regard as an excellent investment. This is a GREAT window AC!
How do you clean it and get rid of the gross mildew smell, this ac also isn’t quite whatsoever.
@Makula55 -- Does this type of A/C unit require the filling and refilling of some type of coolant? If so, how is that done?

Those of you that live in apartments that have over 11 inch width and wont allow this model to fit. The other option is listed below. Stay away from the GE knock off of this model it has a water problem.
Midea 8,000 BTU Smart Inverter U-Shaped Window Air Conditioner, 35% Energy Savings, Extreme Quiet, Cools up to 350 Sq. Ft., Model - MAW08V1QWT
Also, people talk about mold in the Midea it's easy to take off but if you get the appropriate size for your sq footage you shouldn't have an issue. I own both the Soleus and the Midea and they are my favorite units by far. I won't use other brands. They are just worth every penny from build quality to ease of installation. I have had both of mine for 1 year on the nose and the best investment I spent.
From what I see in this video; I think that it’s definitely worth the $508+ price because it’s a low profile air conditioner that doesn’t need the accordion side panels that seem to break easily!
I’m currently contemplating purchasing this low profile air conditioner; and when I do purchase it; I will purchase it in late August; and use it in Kentucky then in Florida during the winter months!
did you ever get it, how was it?
I got the one that's also a heat pump, switching into heating mode it sounds like the last chopper out of nam taking off. then it blows fart warm air at you. Impressive.
Hope it's not fart air smell
Thanks for the installation info.
I just got this and set it up up test it and I'm very happy. This video was also helpful
So, it there a built in pump to evacuate automaticaly the condensate?
@@alexandrevaliquette1941 Nope, mine fills with water constantly. It costs $200 to ship it to them to get it fixed though, so it's just taking up space in my basement now.
Just figured I'd share an update now that I've been using it. It's in the 90°s and incredibly humid. I find it works great. I've been primarily using the dehumidifier mode which brings the room down to 70° pretty quickly. It does collect water but every other day I just grab an empty bottle, pull the drain plug, and toss the water. Really not that much of an inconvenience. I useto have a stand up ac unit and it would fill with water much more quickly than this. I would recommend it. Any questions, I'd be happy to help!
@@alexandrevaliquette1941 There is a poor quality condensate pump. Others have reported failures. Soleus' CSR tells you to remove the plug and drain it manually🤔😡! LOL
I'm still using a Panasonic saddle AC from the 80`s so this isn't new. No drainage issue either. Will keep using it until it dies.
Sounds like a great unit if it is still running. Are there other saddle air conditioners made today besides this one and Midda? It is just much easier to install I think.
This unit looks like it’s from the 80’s😄 wondering if the quality is superb.
It’s an 80’s panosonic it won’t die.
Until it or you :P
We have a 8,000 BTU soleus saddle unit and it cools better than the Fredrick 15,000 BTU window unit. I just got to figure out how to keep the front resovir from overflowing. But it cools so good that we bought a soleus 10,000 BTU saddle unit with heat
One word...GENIUS!!!
You put three words
far from genius....lol the drain plug is on the INSIDE OF THE HOUSE PART OF THE UNIT......
Love this,
Don't forget to cut length of 2x2 so burglars can't raise window.
I think it would have made a lot more sense to have a top piece with the side pieces built on, with a lip for the window to sit onto
This is Amazing nice
I seriously wish it was somehow adjustable in depth. My old New York window sill is way more than 11 inches where the unit is supposed to rest. I’d buy this in a heartbeat if they offered different sizes!
GE makes one that will expand to fit a 13” window sill
I had t chip away 1 inch of brick but I made it work fine
It fits windows up to 11". Sorry for the late reply.
@@marka7519 GE copied our design. We invented this concept.

My window opening height is 13.75, so I guess this unit is not appropriate for it since 16" apparently is the minimum height to get the unit in there?
I see that there’s no need for the side panels!
What are the sliders made of? Are they flimsy like the accordion side panels of a window a/c? I find they let hot air in by being so thin, and have small gaps. This is the reason I'm researching saddle a/c's.
They are hard plastic
phoneyjoe - perhaps this can.help you. When I installed a new a/c window unit this year, I threw the still bagged accordion curtains into the trash. Then I cut & fit 2.5" inch pool noodles and snugged them up each side of the a/c, between the unit and the window casing (think Lincoln log walls). Then I cut & installed installed foam poster board over the noodles, from the bottom of the window to the sill (inside and out) for a smooth, seamless look. It took 4 pool noodles and 1 sheet of dense foam board. The entire install took less than 20 minutes and cost under 10$. Effectively keeps the hot air and insects out, inexpensively. Please note - I will never install a window ac unit any other way.
The only ac I know that doesn't require making holes in window. Love the idea but man, its a bit pricey in 2021.
The Midea U shape split unit has a bracket that looks like it doesn't require screws.
I own two of the Mideas now. You are supposed to run two small screws into the bracket. Very minimal, very easy.
There is a Cloud Air Conditioning System from Apple which operates totally remote from the house.

What if my window open side way is there way I can use this Ac?
Fast-cool with existing air-conditioner and lower-power wall-sockets... add one more piece.
I have old jalousie windows in my apartment. If I bought one, how would I install it?
To get rid of the water accumulated some people remove the drain plug and capture the water with an empty bottle, I just connect a hose to it and have it drain on an empty gallon
what type of hose do you use ? i just got the FL code come up and tried just letting the water drain itself but it comes up after like 20 minutes
How about installing on horizontal sliding windows? Do you have a link?
I know it is nice to be able to open your window, but I really want to know how to lock down my window to keep people fom breaking into my home. How do you make it completely seure with this model. I have older wood windows with a storm window 4 or 5 inches behind. With normal air conditioners, I have to put them on my storm window in order to keep the back part outside and keep the bugs and squirrels out. There are varius tools like the AC lock, widow slide locks and L shape bars to screw in to secure most window AC units. How do you keep the window closed and secure on the Soleus Saddle?
You can buy a small corner brace ("L"-shaped piece of metal) and screw it into the jamb on each side. This will prevent the window from being raised.
裝個活動固定鎖片不就好了..
Damn that price and it’s not even an “inverter” unit with variable speed compressor?
I can't figure why it's in the $410 price range either. The inverter units in similar 6k to 8k btu range are at $300
For the 10,000 BTU unit, is there any data available on BTU output at different outdoor ambient temperatures? What is the lowest recommended outdoor air temperature for heating?
I've witnessed mine work down to around 23F. Goes into "LO". It does have an energy saver inverter, and since it's in my shop I've never taken it out of Energy Saver mode. I'm not sure if that would increase its heating capability. It does say in the manual if it gets too cold you may need backup heat.
With a kilowatt meter on it I've seen it peak ask for 880w, but just with fan around 40w and AC 400w. Originally I had a ceramic heater in my shop and it was contributing around $30 a month to my power bill. This is running more like $0.25 cents a day in the winter and $0.11 cents a day in the summer at $0.08 cents a kWh.
Can you connect it to Home Assistant? How does it drain the condensation? I saw this years a go not a new design. Can't use for apartments wall too thick.
Yes you can wirelessly connect it to a Roomba and have the vacuum dispense cool air as it travels around the room.

I have a soleus 8,000 and it keeps shutting down and shows FL. What is causing this?
I'm considering on getting one of these. How wide is it? I have a sliding window in hopes it'll fit. A friend of mine has one and he loves it. I live in an upstairs apartment and gets ungodly hot.
I'm pretty sure this will only work in windows that open and close vertically.
My 10,000BTU model w/ heat comes in around 47.5cm wide. 18.7 inches. I installed it in a horizontal window. They do sell a glass insert for that scenario around $140. Or you can opt to go a custom route.
How much do these cost? I have a regular window unit and I'm debating between a portable AC or a Saddle AC for my bedroom.
Go Saddle AC. The noise of a portable is quite loud. We sell portables as well but you'll love this unit. It won an international award for innovation.
This has a dehumidifier. The GE low profile one at 6k btu does not.
I guess every AC install happens where no one has vinyl siding???
How does a FOAM mounting block support this 60-70 lb unit upon a window lip seal?
Don't you need a firm wood support block on base to take the full weight of AC off of any seal?
Why not make all foam pieces the same uniform color?
To use the Medea or Midea unit U unit it was twice as many steps to even using a bubble measure tool for balance ‼🗣🗣🙎🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️
Do these saddle A/C units require the filling and refilling of some type of coolant? If so, how is that done? It wasn't shown in the video, so...
Mine ain’t working right after installation it’s incredibly hot we are so angry it was way heavier than a standard ac to install
No. Its a sealed unit
Next time I'm looking to burgle I'm looking for a Soleus Saddle A/C
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
me too!!! hahahah
What is maximum thickness of the wall this AC can accommodate while it lowered on the window?
One model accommodates almost 12". From memory its like 11.75".
We live in the country where the bugs are horrible. My question is, how many of those annoying little critters find their way between the guards and into the room you're trying to cool?
I opted for some aluminum tape. Could easily find a color appropriate option too assist sealing things up.
Does Soleus make a small water pump to pump water outside?
Not their best selling feature!
Well... I think Soleus don't want future customer know about the fact they will have to empty the water condensate many times per day.
Nice concept overall.
I would think the small condensate pump is built into the unit. They are not going to sell a unit that needs to be drained not even portable units need to be drained anymore.
Why would you need a pump? The drain hole is there (you can see it under the unit when he is putting on the window) for water to drain, and if you listen he tells you to have a 1/4" downward. All window units drain water outside. The only ones I see that need water drained are the indoor portables.
@@alwaysthinking9713 Because the condensate is in the front part of the unit low it has to be pushed up to the window sill to the back condenser part of the unit where the fan can dissipate it or you could use the drain plug to drain it.

I read the information about this..that is why it mentions the tilt..it seems some people do not to it properly.
Hello. Question, my unit keeps wanting to "tip out" the window. In this video the front of the unit is pushed almost right up to the sill, while the outside portion is "far" away from the outside sill with the 1/4 pitch and the extender/braces toggled out to a to brace against the side of the house. I feel like I'm one of the morons that would kill somebody with my installation if I lived in an apartment building and not a house. Please give me some feedback event if it is brutal! I just want to install this correctly and safely! Thank you!
Please see my comment above. I had to install 3" blocks between the bolt heads and the siding. We live in a mobile home with thin walls. (This was for their 10k btu model - Not a problem with the 8k model.) Good luck!
you need to adjust the support screws located on the bottom inner outside part of the unit. level the ac then hold and unscrew supports until it is level. :)
Why didn’t you center it?!
Is the outdoor part water proof if it starts raining on it?
Yes
Yes. But the cabinet starts rusting from day one. Cheap construction. Crummy paint.
Any idea where I can find another installation kit?
Same question; ever find out?
How's heavy is the A/C unit 🤔 with 10,000 btu
10,000 BTU means it has a compressor weight of 10,000 micrograms per meter.
@@ronstar7027 no
Where can I get extra part like the side and the foam seal
Foam seal at Lowes. Extra side panel - just make them out of anything -wood or plastic panels
Any solution for burglary proof if it's installed on the first floor?
Cut a piece of lumber to size and wedge it from top of window frame to top of ac
How much cold can my Solora air conditioner safely take
Update: I left my Soleus air-conditioned in the window all winter. It was installed in a front window so it's well protected from rain and snow, but was exposed to temperatures down to 0°f several times. I covered it with a vinyl window ac cover. And since the manufacturer recommended removing it from the window for the winter I was quite apprenive as to it working come summer. But it came through the cold just fine. It works just fine. I'm very pleased with my Soleusair.com window unit 8,000btu.
How do you lock the window??
The red neck way.
But in all seriousness. I bar mine so the window can't be lifted. My system works well. But I do prefer the way the Midea U shaped one works. As I can use the stock window locks if I wanted with my window. But like I bar that too.
Where do we get this?
Google. They have everything.
What about the drainage problem? Don't you have to make sure it's tilted back slightly? What if the FL light comes on and it's trying to pump water out? Can you demonstrate having to drain it from the inside? I want to buy four of these, but I'm not going to until I know the drainage issue is resolved.
In the video it says to make sure the unit is pitched downward to the outside, which is apparently accomplished by adjusting the screw-in supports.
Woops. Turns out this does have a plug on the indoor side for draining. So tilting doesn't fully solve the water problem.
@@chikkipop the company stated they solved the water issue, but I can't find any details. Not going to buy without absolute proof. I can't expect AirBNB guests to deal with this.
@@briancoverstone4042 Yeah, that wouldn't be good. For me it'll be fine. Someone in the comments said you just check it every week or so if it's been running a lot. I wish the company had information about that. "We solved it" doesn't tell you much.
@@chikkipop We have a bucket under it. Empty every 2+ hours. It sux!
for several years I was a AC salesman ..... the Soleus AC has two problems (1) it sits very low in the window and sometimes this causes a problem when installing the unit if the window is too low in the wall and (2) the air flow may hit furniture in the room because it is so low and that restricts the aiir flow
You can install an air deflector on and aim the air up
The advantage is clearly out weighs the negative...... the saddle alows you to open/close window independently without removal of AC. It does slip down closer to the floor which allows more natural light entering the room. In an emergancy you can operate the window to exit.... Since the compresser operates outside and the air exchange operates inside, this creates a much quieter sound in the room
What prevents a burglar from just opening the window and coming inside?
We always use a 1nchish square piece of wood, measure it, and put it in from top of window down.
A Doberman or Pit Bull.

For a horizontal opening window, I figure you can cut a wooden board to mimick the upper sliding window and anchor the board to the side frame with L-shaped brackets.

How did you burglar proof the window?
Get a 1x2 board and cut it to the length equal to the distance between the to of tour inside window to reach the top of your window frame. Much like a security bar that is usually used with sliders, it does not allow the window to move. As always remember, windows can be broken.

Too bad there isn't a model for windows that slide open sideways
I thought the same thing. Although you could probably hang it just like it is here, but for the space above it, you'd need to fill it with a sheet of plywood, or even better, a foam insulation panel.
No problem . It is designed to be installed sideways. Or, you may simply hang it in your front doorway.

This has been nothing but a pain in the ass!! Nothing has fit the way it should we have had to cut window seals and it looks horrible
Seriously, this product is completely unacceptable in any region with humid days and nights. You will be emptying the water from the front of the unit up to SEVERAL TIMES A DAY! You need to keep a bucket handy below it so you can fill it and dump it down the toilet or sink. Completely ridiculous. This needs a pump and flexible hose to extend outside to automatically purge the system or some kind of redesign.
It is designed that way, so as to act as a humidifier as well.
@@_tim___4234 The condensate inside the room cannot drain since the unit is below the window sill. It should either have a pump to drain the condensate out, or you need to drain it mainly as it fills up. This is great window A.C. Unit but the installation recommendation is terrible.
This should not be installed on the bottom part of the window. It should be installed on the upper window of a double-hung window. The indoor part will get full of water on humid days and needs to be drained which will be on the floor if you install it on the bottom window. By installing it on the top window, you can have a hose go down to the bottom window and let gravity dump the water through there.
There are a ton of Amazon reviews with folks stating that it ruined their floors by installing it like advertised.
