My family is fine with who I am and I enjoy it to an extent. However, how do people deal with coming out to the world? Throughout my life I feel ups and downs with the power to just admit it to people who probably already know and hiding to avoid the hostility from everyone who doesn't. I just don't know what to do and my self isolation is crushing. My final hope right now is college which is just 6 months away. I hope it gets better because no one deserves this loneliness.
I used to think just like before my "coming out" to my family. It wasn't a coming out exactly, they discovered. The fact is that my sexuality broke my family, and with time we were able to fix it but never were the same. I'm still not free. In college nobody knows about me, and all of my friends are homofobics, so I have to live a lie every day. But you're totally right, it really does get better.
@farmerz245 I'm sorry to hear that you're going through a tough time with your family. I can't tell you what you should do without knowing you and being in your situation, but even if your family doesn't support you, there are so many people out there -- be them friends, people from a support group, or people in your community -- that will be there for you and help you through the journey. You're strong and amazing just as you are, so remember that :)

Hi I just want to tell you that your video has hit home to me. I’m not out and I'm struggling with this. I feel like my world is collapsing. I am currently married and have 2 adult children and I've been living a lie for such a long time. I'm so confused and just don't know how to handle this. I feel that I've let down my marriage and am feeling extremely guilty! I just wanted to share this with someone! Thank you

@adoringcarmine I know it's hard to believe and understand these videos as you're living through the bad times, but thousands of people have stepped forward to deliver this message because it really is true. Life will never be perfect, and things aren't always going to be looking up, but overall, things get better. And in the end, you'll see that the memories you'll make and the good times you'll have will be so worth sticking around for. Stick in there :)

But at the end of the day, I wouldn't change anything about myself, and that's the important part. You're doing your part by just being out and being who you are, so thank you to you :)

I couldn't sit back idly, knowing that my story -- along with the thousands upon thousands of others -- could really make a difference in the lives of kids out there struggling with who they are and whether they want to continue to live. First thing you have to feel better about who you are, before you start tell your friends and family that you are gay ...I think kids these day think are very afraid to tell their parents that they are gay .. but there is help out their for them ... never be afraid who are,god will always love you no matter what ...

@saulofers Never say never. I don't know your situation and would never tell you to do something that could endanger your life, but hold on to the hope that one day it really does get better. Who you are is NOT wrong; God doesn't make mistakes. Wow Matt I think I just fell in love with you. But like most good gay men, I bet your already taken. I remember the coming out of Ellen. I think we are so lucky to be alive today to witness the change cause it is coming! When I was younger I totally thought I was going to find a girl who was good enough too. Looking back that is crazy. I can't believe I was going to accept that kind of life. Life is a crazy, scary, funny, journey. Thanks for sharing a little bit of your life with us. ;)
@TheCaptan200 You are entitled to your religious beliefs and to practice as you wish, but when you start to throw out words like "disorder" and "wrong," that's where your religion starts to hurt others. The implied message in those words is that we're broken, and it's this mindset is what drives so many LGBT people to suicide. Instead of breaking people down, use your religion to support tolerance, love and a better unity among all of God's people.

I know this video is serious, and the man in the video is serious as well. I just can't deny that I didn't really listen to what he was saying, because he's so hot. I imagined us running away together! We'd tour London in wool coats while sipping hot coffee on the Thames. Oh.............sigh.....I'm so pathetic. Now, I'm imagining us in Spain in late November....touring the countryside in our convertible Jaguar....... I need a man!
What if there are no signs of things getting better? Maybe it does for some people, but this isn't true for everyone. This isn't solely because of being among the lgbt folks, but because of a job which pays abysmally, health issues, among other things. And the gay guys on the dating apps are absolutely nasty to each other. I'm almost 44 years old and still single. I'm not sure where in New York you are as it's a big state, but we are in the same state.
