- Timothy and I are a gay couple in West Hollywood, California. We decided to make a short video for the 'It Gets Better project,' started by Dan Savage. We hope we can help any young LGBT people out there. They are not alone.

Thank you guys so much for sharing parts of your life! I'm from Germany and just heard about the "It gets better"-Campaign in the States. It is so great to see all those supportive messages from individuals and also major corporations. People finally need to realize that it really is a Human Rights Issue. I used to live in the US for a year and I just love to see how all those great people like yourselves are constantly fighting the good fight! Best wishes from the heart of Europe!

Absolutely beautiful, inspiring and touching video. I have been following the It Gets Better videos for a while now and only just came across yours. It is my one year Anniversary with my Fiance today and it was just lovely to see such a loving gay couple also engaged to be married. I can relate to Tim a lot. I always thought it would just go away and I was so upset when I started bringing myself to the realization of it but when I came out it was the greatest weight lifted from my shoulders and I am 100x happier now.
Your video is inspirational, I loved hearing that one of you was from Kansas. I lived in Kansas for six year and struggled there the whole time. But I can't wait to get out into the real world and live my life.

Hated myself, too for being gay. Catholic upbringing made me fear my futures. Got married, had three daughters. Got divorced. Accepted myself. Afraid of loosing all of my family and friends...I never had a problem! What was I so afraid of???? Who cares what others think of you! You have more people who love you and don't care that you love the opposite sex! All people want for you is to be loved and share love!

Dear Rob and Timothy Looking at the [lovely] dogs - the animal behaviourist Temple Grandin proposes that wolves live in families, not packs, and that dogs are looking not for an alpha, but a parent. Except in emergencies, I let that loving gentle parental attitude inform every word I speak to my dogs. :)
Thank you so much, there were times in my life when i didn't think it would get better, and now after a year of coming out, i could not have been happier! My family disowned me and they are the religious type, but just like you Timothy, I grew up very involved in the church and when I came out it shocked many people and they said I was never a Christian and never can be because of my sin...can you help me with that? What is your stand? Do you consider yourself a christian still?

Others negativity that affects you so badly in your childhood years, just washes away in time, only leaving the faintest stain as you realize life is YOURS to live the way YOU want. now GO live it

@tayylovessyuu Thanks very much. Diesel is a Rottweiler mix... or just a really small Rottweiler; we got them both at a shelter so we don't know for sure. They're both sweet boys.

If you do some research, you will find that there are gay (& gay-friendly) areas surrounding the big cities in Alabama (e.g. Mobile, Birmingham, Montgomery). There is also plenty of support available via internet.
You are amazing, and im so happy for you.
Proposition 8 has been ruled unconstitutional by a federal district court as well as the United States 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, but alas, typical to the united states legal system, it takes FOREVER for anything to actually change. But regardless Tim and I were married legally in New Hampshire in August of 2011 and have never been happier.

@imjere - So sorry to hear that a family (unfortunately and presumably your own) uses such hateful and bigoted language. My family definitely called things "SO GAY," but I have confidence the words were used in complete ignorance. Tim was forced to wait until he had worked long enough to be financially independent from his family before he told them he was gay. This way if they lashed out, he could just say peace-out. I fear that this may be the best recourse for someone in your position.

Well just live your life openly, now you know for sure you don't actually need to carry this weight of coming out to your parents, if they don't love you for who you are then who will? do they really deserve you? well that's only if they loved you! real parents loves their children no matter what! I say it again NO MATTER WHAT!!!!! But please don't end your life just because your mum is in denial, just keep on living your life, enjoy it while it lasts!!!! hope this helped!

I am both bi and christian. I do not what interpretation people seem to have when it comes to certain passages in the Bible. But, really, come on, read it again! Because whatever it is you think it says... It does not condone hate!

Great video but it doesnt get better for everyone. I came out when I was 19 ,Im forty now and pretty much wish id just kept it to myself. I was happier and had more friends before. In my exsperience meeting other gay people their rude ,crass, hatefull backstabbing people. Ive not been able to rely on many Ive met and have no friends now that I had when I came out. I wanted to be true to myself and the people in my life that id meet along the way, thinking my life would be easier, open and real.
Okay, no ill feelings towards Tim, honest. :3 But Rob in particular just does something for me. xP
Nonsensical business aside.. I don't know Life just sucks for me. :/ I've never really had support. Always had to get everything on my own, always had to survive on my own. But lately I just feel spent, I feel tired. I'm nineteen, but my back kills me and I can't get over my depression. But no family member, no "friend", no one is willing to just give me a shoulder... :/ I hope it gets better...

@Razorokc Sorry bout that man. I'm 15, bi/gayer by the second, but still in the closet. I hate to give advice, cuz a lot of times it's easier to say than to do, but just keep you r head up, eh. And if there's anyone that openly confronts you about bein gay, don't even say nothin to em. I know that's easier said than done, cuz hell even i have a short fuse, but do your best. And most of all: keep God on your side. I don't wanna preach to you, but remember, he loves ALL of his people, us too.

It breaks my heart that people want to kill themselves because they are gay, in the old days gay meant happy and I still think it means happy . I love gay people and I love gay men. they get the end of it, most people say well its ok for two women to be together but not men, I think that if more people of the same sex had sex there would be at least a lot more Bi people. @RUEditor I think people just wanna find any way to segregate a type of group they don't like, and of course, they use the ultimate proof to fight us with. But with all respect to God, things aren't the same now as in biblical times. You'd be punished if you worked on a sunday, but now plenty of people do that, so should workin on a sunday be illegal? Is it immoral? Course not. God loves all of us. All of the people trying to put us down: just the devil tryin to put us down.
