Nicolette Larson - Lotta Love (Chris' Disco Remix)

  • Another wonderful lady who left us far too soon. My tweaking of a favourite... The original Jim Burgess Disco Stereo Remix can be found on Nicolette's "Very Best Of" Rhino cd - Japanese import - it's not listed on the outside cover art, but is on the inner jacket and on the Japanese translation sleeve. Remixed by Jim Burgess, featuring a new sax solo while moving the familiar flute solo to the intro, but in an altered form. Only 4 minutes and change, so it never made a huge club impact, and of course features a new kick drum track rather than the pop heartbeat we know from radio.

I listen to this song almost everyday. It's nostalgic and I cannot hear it enough. One of the best songs of all time. It captures everything I feel about life, the past, present and future. Neil Young wrote this song, but Nicolette Larson brought it to life. I feel nothing but love when I hear this song. Thank you for posting.

Ian Demontfort Thank you! Me too - every day! Especially when I drift off to sleep at night, it's in my fade-out songlist. A simple chord progression, but superb orchestration. I wonder that I prefer the radio version - it does have a superior flute solo... A song that I used to stop everything for whenever it came on the radio (or better yet, the car radio!). Right up there with Kansas' Dust in the Wind, and Crazy Love by Poco. Can you tell I was a young teen in the late 70's?

Love this song but it also makes me sad that the music I so loved has died. I despise what passes for "music" today. But I'll always have my precious memories of beautiful '70s dance music, the much maligned but misunderstood -unless- you -lived- through- it magnificent disco.

This song is awesome! A wonderful remix. I agree with you Davin Damper...somehow music as we know it was destroyed in the 1990's and 2000's. Now it's just Rap Crap and whiny voices all sounding the same. This was and still is real music with heart and soul. Let's preserve it before it too disappears.

      Baloney !
Loleatta Holloway WAS Asked to SING on the Black Box LP & Martha Wash charged less = pure & simple.
OF course EVERYONE 'claimed' to LOve Loleatta Holloway AFTER they had a Number One Dance Hit across The World.
By the fact Ride On Time was So Massive it Proved all the Yakkers knew not one jot about her.
she even said herself when she was booked to a Club afterwards when she did HER Song 'Love Sensation', the Clubs sometimes Complained !
THAT ISN'T ''THAT RECORD", she said she was told and ended up voicing her 'own' Versions that chopped up the original song.

I l heard this extended version of Lotta Love early 1979 at the height of the disco craze and 15 years later in late 1994 I was talking to a dj at a radio station about this and he actually had this version of Lotta Love and played it on the radio for me I never thought I'd ever hear it again or that someone locally had this on a vinyl album or would remember it. What a wonderful thing that someone in 1978 or 1979 made an effort to make an extended version of this awesome song.

If you are looking for a band that makes modern alt rock/pop music who isn't afraid to add guitar or sax solos to their music, look at this band from Montpelier, France named M83. As somebody who is very cynical and jaded about a lot of what passes nowadays for pop music, their stuff has a definite 80's vibe to it and the fact that they aren't superstars at this point absolutely baffles me.

I wasn't a hardcore disco denizen so I really enjoyed extended remixes like this and other remixes of mainstream recordings. The Stones' "Miss You" was another great remix - wish there was one of "Hot Stuff" from "Black & Blue." These remixes in turn exposed mainstream artists to broader audiences. Burgess had remarkable license from Warner to do what he did. Fascinating guy.

The first time I danced with a guy to Shannon’s Let the Music Play was a feeling of freedom and joy that I’ve rarely experienced. Dancing with guys in the clubs in the early ‘80s was such a magical time. When a ‘70s song played like Diana’s Love Hangover or Thelma’s Don’t Leave Me This Way and I could finally dance with a guy to it I was in heaven!

@@tlw1950 My first experiences were in the early 80's as well - when the gay bars discovered that yes, Disco was Gay Music and to hell with the rest of society listening to AC/DC! When a lot of the songs were Broadway disco-makeovers, like Memory by Menage and Scherrie Payne doing One Night Only from Dreamgirls. The first disco makeover was arguably Bette Midler's Strangers In The Night, then Linda Clifford doing If My Friends Could See Me Now and of course, Donna Summer's incomparable MacArthur Park. I loved Vicki Sue Robinson's To Sir With Love as well. Tons from that era.

My first instinct is to say "suberbly!", but if you are wondering how I actually do it, I use a music/sound editing program called Adobe Audition. Its limits are definite - I can't separate tracks out of a finished recording, as they are now "one track", but I can cut and paste and overdub and lift out certain sounds enough (not cleanly) to have any associated noises disappear into the remix... it's a hobby, and I'm learning as I go.

Thanks! It all started when I realized I could try to splice music on my cassette player in the 80's. I don't pretend that any of these are professional calibre, I play with Adobe Audition and slice and dice and overdub and try to make it sound as if it were the 12" version from the period the song was recorded... usually!! I miss hearing these songs on the radio - as we grow older, pop culture leaves us behind... and the music I hear today doesn't seem to have the heart and soul of what it did when I was a kid... I'm a cliche, I guess!!

I love your work. As an old Dj from the 80's I appreciate what you do. I was trying to find an extended track (40 mins) to post that I acquired about ten years ago from a random guy who blended about a dozen songs from various eras. We used it in a bar and everyone wanted it. It was superb. I'm not saying you have bucket loads of time, but you certainly have the ability to do something similar. He walked into the bar and asked me was I after some retro chill music during the quiet times. I thought it was a scam. He asked me to pick about twenty chill songs that I liked and thought would work, so I did. Two weeks later he walked in, downloaded it onto my computer and said if I like it I owe him dinner and drinks. Mindboggling how many people, young and old (it was a late night tapas cocktail bar), asked to buy a copy. That was years ago and I can't find him to get a copy to post for your ears. Anyway I enjoy your work. Cheers

It sounds like the Stars On 45 and Intro Disco stuff from the early 80's...

What is it like to have a favourite song in another language? It must be frustrating trying to understand the lyrics.
