HOW TO: Properly form a Beret

- There are many ways to form/bash/shape/mould your Beret, however this tutorial should send you in the right direction and prevent you from looking like an idiot.
****I'd also like to point out that this is a cloth band beret, and not a leather band. If you have a leather band beret, it is your choice if you wish to soak it or not as it will shrink slightly when wet. However, this will end up happening over time with sweat & the weather etc, so the choice is yours.

The beret used is a Rifle Green Beret, they can be purchased from www.platatac.com or www.christies.n....
The badge is of The Royal Australian Regiment (Infantry) a part of the Australian Army.
You can use any razors to shave the beret, however it's best to purchase cheap disposable razors as the continued use may ruin your good razor.

hey I was just wondering if you could confirm the badge placement, your saying 1mm about the band and the ADM says 1 CM, just hoping I could get some clarification
Hey mate, thanks for picking that up. I just checked the latest regulations in accordance with the ADM and you are correct, it's 1CM from the top of the band. Previously it had been 1CM from the bottom of the band, or 1mm from the top of the band in the old ASOD's.

Hey mate, how exactly do you fold your beret after you’ve shaped it? I’m worried I’ll muck it up.
Depends what country beret you want, most countries do it differently.
Once you have let it Dry, sitting on a Baseball cap, or other hat. It should, if you put it into a Roll, badge last, it should maintain it's shape. That, is why, in Australia, we shave the Felt smooth as in the Video. I served in the UK Army also, and they, wear their Berets, this way, and even have the Cap Badge, at the temple, instead on over the Left eye. Americans, Bash their Berets the same way we do, I don't know who copied who. Ansdwer is, let it Dry properly, leave on a baseball Cap to maintain shape whilst it is drying. This Video, is the best I have seen., for Bashing/ Shaoping Berets. If you do muck it up, just soak the Beret in Reasonably Hot water, and gfo again. Oh, one tip I would add, is this with using the Range card or similar Plastic, to staple it ih place with a normal House Stapler, place the Cap Badge in Place, and when finished, remove the staples. You won't see the staples at all. Good Luck, everyone, this Guy knows his Shit!

+Nathan Gathergood Good question, I failed to point out that this particular beret is a cloth band and not leather. If you have a leather banded beret, it is your decision if you wish to wet it or not, as it will shrink slightly when wet. However, be aware that over time when exposed to the elements and your forehead sweat, the band will shrink overtime. I hope this answers your question, cheers.
Pick up a beret with a cloth band. You’ll be glad you did. They are way more comfortable, and they are so much nicer to shape. Audax et Celer.

Hey mate, take out the pin cap and, using a multi tool or pliers, bend the pins upwards. Just make sure it’s bashed properly so you don’t have to take it out!

Ok so my flash or the badge backing is rather large do I need to cut it? also if I do I would be taking an interior cloth off the beret that is different from the beret itself. I hope that made sense thanks in advance

Feeble Media just wet a cloth place it on the brim and iron for 3 seconds moveing back and forward then repeat this for the other side, either rotating your cloth or re wetting it then place it on a table flat and put heavy books/objects on it (make sure chinstrap is tucked under)

Old Sig! do not shave your beret, the longer you wear it the thinner it becomes! If the CSM or SSM sees that it has been shaved they'll make you get a new one! By the way, don't leave it in the warm water too long as it will shrink so much you won't get it on your head!!!

+ASSAULT9SOLDIER R Depends how big and noticeable it is mate, best option is to get a new one, but if it's small enough to not be seen, I'd leave it. I wouldn't go and try sew it together or sew something underneath because you'll just make it look messy. Hope this helped.
Thanks man its not to big but i tried putting this thing under it so it "glues" togeter it helped a little bit but i think im going to talk to my CO and see if he can get a new one for me

You can speed up or slow down the video using the CZcams options found under the cog. You can make it go up to twice as fast or as slow as a quarter of the speed.

Interesting... this is exactly how we "bashed" our berets in the Royal Australian Regiment. My understanding is it is still done this way. My Tankie Mate confirmed that it is the same way in the Royal Australian Armoured Corps too. Last time I checked, Australia was part of the Commonwealth.
