I got my wrecker stuck in a blizzard

- I got my wrecker stuck! I guess I jinxed myself when I said I never had to chain up my outside tires after installing the @onspotnorthamerica22 automatic tire chains..
We headed up the mountain during a blizzard to winch out a couple of stuck trucks. The first one was a loaded set of doubles spun out and slid into the snow bank. I had to winch, move forward, winch again, and repeat a for about a hundred yards and the @zackliftinternational4841 never hesitated! I finally got to the point where I would drag him up the mountain with the two trucks. After that we headed down to get another set of doubles, and being empty I thought I would just be able to drag him without winching. That was a huge mistake and caused me to slide to the inside of the turn and get stuck as well. I had Ethan try to pull me out, but he got stuck as well.
ODOT stopped bu in their Autocar plow truck and were able to pull me out with my @YankumRopes, then I was able to get back to work and pull both trucks out.

Dude!! A 7/8” 28,500MBS rope behind a 40,000lb truck pulling a 35,000lb STUCK truck??!! Holy crap! You know how to make us work!! 😅
That’s a 7/8” 28,500lb rope doing the job of a 1-1/2” 74,000lb rope!!
WAAAAY out of speck but AWESOME job dude!! That takes serious fineness!!
lol That was definitely a “don’t do this at home kids” 😎
What is the Working Load Limit (WLL) on those 7/8" ropes. Also what is the WLL on the 1.5" 74,000 rope.
Whats the saftey rating on those again? ;) What a test of the durability though!
Well maybe if ya cut him a deal on the Anaconda... we got your back, Casey!
Yankum Ropes website has full details. Their ropes (and company) are no joke!
@@cclngthr we recommend a FOS of between 4 and 5 much less than 4 and it’s too stretchy and risk damaging the rope or total failure and anything above a 5 the rope will not offer the stretch required to be a good kinetic ropes that being said on a 7/8” 28,500lb MBS you have a recommended WLL between 7,125 and 5,700 lbs at a 5mph running start pull your kinetic energy becomes almost equivalent to the static resting weight of your recovery vehicle.
The UPS folks you were dealing with over the phone are typical of folks in an office that are trying to meet time constraints and don't care about the conditions out on the road. I have worked with folks like that and they are arrogant and demanding and are thinking only of themselves. Good on the UPS driver for being careful and helpful. Having Ethan helping out in many ways and with the camera has truly enhanced this channel.
That's what Casey said 😂
I as a manager only dealt with UPS when a customer said they want us to use them and they paid for the transport.
I have so many positive things to say Casey. I will leave it at wow and awesome!!
If you understand how UPS works you'll know a great deal. UPS fines it's customers for holding up time schedules, they are so vane I wouldn't be surprised for them to send Casey a bill instead of the other way around.
@@powderriver2424Theyd be stupid to send an emergency service worker a bill. Better knowing social media to send an apology. Recovery people have to be focused on what matters otherwise there would be chaos and roads blocked for hours
Props to Ethan for all the great camera shots. He is most def a great addition to the channel .
Absolutely! Those shots at the end are so beautiful. Stay safe Casey and Ethan. You three drivers did a great job! (This includes the UPS driver ☺️👍!)
If Ethan doesn't have his CDL, now is a good time to get one!
I agree. Ethan should go full bore to get certified. He is a good man.
For sure. Those vid shots add a whole new perspective to the tow job.
Agreed. Ethan has been a great addition to the channel!
Casey, you are definitely one of the Good Guys. I am an 81 yr old, former truck driver, retired, living in Yuma Arizona and love watching your videos. Thanks for all you do for others. I have been in these snow conditions many, many times. You are a real blessing to those who are stuck.
I'm sitting here remembering Casey complaining about the lack of snow this year...
You did it to yourself there Casey.. You know how the weather gods are up here.. 😄
Jack Frost answered his prayers.
Yeah I was laughing about the same thing.
And you wanted snow!!!!
Be careful what you wish for
We all have been praying for snow in Central Oregon!
Having a camera man is next level! Great video
Perfect example of why the old school halogen warning lights work for you. Halogen bulbs build heat in the housings and help keep the lenses clear of snow. LED's don't build as much heat and tend to get covered while operating. Great job on the tow's
I remember getting home after lousy drive in heavy snow and slushy areas. Looked at the headlights and the only part that didn't have an inch of ice on it was the centre of the lens due to the heat from the bulbs. LED's are great but not in winter conditions with lots of road spray of all sorts.
As a truck driver let me tell you… dispatchers aren’t the sharpest knife in the drawer… good job Casey
A truck driver passes away, he ends up going to heaven.
At the pearly gates, talking with St. Peter, he sees rows and rows of loaded trucks, ready to go.
The truck driver asks St. Peter,' all those loaded trucks... Don't you have any drivers here?'
St Peter replies: ' we have plenty of drivers. We just haven't had any dispatchers make it up here's
Heard that one before. Still funny.
Corporate america at its finest trying to micro manage a blizzard from 1k miles away.
1k miles.. so you calculate the distance in a fine blend of metric versus imperial 😂
@@SudoSamurai that's funny. 1 kilometer miles. Never thought of it that way

I think it is safe to say the 'manager' has no clue what the situation on the ground is. Casey is 100% correct to focus on the job ( and thus everybody's safety ).
Yup! Nothing wrong with that.
I must say Casey,Ethan is probably the best addition that you’ve ever done for your company. thank you, Ethan.
@@damnbadger8242 I really don't think Grumpy would have liked being out there with him on this one.
@@georgevindo He'd have been grumpy!
One advantages of having halogen lamps in the rotating beacons (as opposed to putting non strobing LEDs in) is that they're much more likely to melt the snow that can build up!
This is the exact reason I won't switch to led head lights. I know my lights will never fit snow covered, at least the ones I'm running now. I've had halogen head lights even get snow covered before, I couldn't imagine led. Not common though, but I've been out in white outs and blizzards. I don't know why I just don't stay home.
@@arthurr8670 one of the led headlight manufacturers actually makes a heated lens unit for that reason :)
Try HIDs, they get hotter than QH and burn just as bright as LED with similar power savings.@@arthurr8670

When I’m running plow truck I’ll almost always stop and pull out another plow or working truck like Casey’s. Mostly because, like Casey, they already have a strap connected and are ready to go. The civic with no chains and no plan? They made a choice.
You're the man Casey. Yeah tell that dispatch to suck it. Safety comes first everything else comes second. It's easy for them to demand everything in the world especially when they're in a nice comfy office far away.
As someone who works on the highways, and plows. Makes me so glad to see the stater going after the big rig with no chains.
Me too, we were cheering him on
I need one of them old 4x4 plow trucks in my life 🤤
Me too!
@@CaseyLaDelle just imagine one of them all chained up with a smallish wrecker on the back 🤤
You still did a great job! We drivers appreciate what you guys do for us. I have home time coming up in a few days and REDMOND and I hope the roads are a lot better by then because when I come over the hill I’m going to be empty. I guess we’ll see what happens lol.
more snow ahead. check your weather channel first. stay warm n safe
Let it snow, we need lots more
Be safe. BTW, do you have Casey's number??? Just in case....😊
Have a safe drive, I hope you can pick up a load back. From my understanding, unloaded doesn't pay the bills.
I worked for WSDOT on White Pass in the 80’s we tested on spot chains on one of our plow trucks. They were a help but for what we were doing regular chains were better. I noticed the ODOT truck that gave you a pull had German chains on. The nice thing about them is you are always on chain due to the diamond pattern. They are also case hardened so they last a lot longer. You can wear halfway through the links then turn them over and use the other side. Keep up the good work and stay safe out there.
I have a set of those diamond patter chains for my rollback and they are awesome! Great traction, and very smooth riding
Easy to tell you how to do your job from the safety of an office! "Just tow him down" sounds easy enough from your office in sunny Florida, but out in the real world in the middle of a blizzard it is actually an awful idea... always take the advice from professionals on site who have eyes on the situation and actually understand and have to deal with the risks involved.
You and Ethan make a perfect combo! Glad he is part of the crew
Rod and Gun is a tricky corner for sure. Chains sometimes are useless on this corner. I can tell you how many wrecks I have work on Hogg Rock over the years.
Yeah that’s a terrible place to be working in the snow. That’s why we left the pickup hooked up for the pull the top. I wanted to make damn sure we made it without spinning out again until we were out of there
I have seen more wreaks on that corner than anywhere else on the pass. It’s always shaded so it can be icy even when the rest of the drive is clear.
@@CaseyLaDelle Safety first.
Rod and Gun corner? Thats a new name for me. Hogg Rock, I know well. Help and old man out, which corner is Rod and Gun?
@@CaseyLaDelleawesome job Casey. Casey will get it 🙂.
Wow! Thanks to Ethan for coming out in a blizzard to film and Thank you Casey for all you do! Thanks to the snowplow driver who helped get you out. Man, that was some blizzard!
Every UPS guy I've ever known wears shorts year 'round. I'm glad to see this guy is no different!
Casey as a wife of a UPS driver thank you for telling whoever was on the phone off, unfortunately though it doesn't matter I'm positive that they will somehow try to blame the driver on ending up in the ditch. Not the conditions or the fact that they sent the driver out in it
As an ups feeder driver from the same hub as that driver - I agree. He will be charged with an accident
@@PKerusso - That's bullshit. I've always thought it should be required for dispatchers to have been drivers first. Or at the very least have to ride along for a period before retreating to their nice warm offices.
@@permaquilter9111 I don't work for UPS but the same BS takes place at other companies. Our best dispatchers were drivers first. The companies are slow to put good drivers in dispatch because then they are short a good driver.
8:55 *gasp* Casey swore the BIG swear 🤣🤣 I know exactly how that feels, you are doing what they hired you to do, and they won't stop bugging you, when it would be over FASTER if they would stop....
Now I know where my Lowe's kitchen sink delivery was 😂
My bad
Awesome recoveries, and great camera work! Casey - you really made a great choice with Ethan. Not only does he capture great video, but he doesn’t hesitate to jump in and assist you where he can as well. ❤
Thank you, Ethan! Glad Casey has your help. Without it we would have missed a very interesting video! You two are rockin' it, for sure.
Using the rear jacks to put chains on must be niiiiice.

You may say "That's not good. . ." But getting the snow plow to pull you out - now that is good! Like having the whole team pulling on the same end of the rope.
Watching the weather forecast for this week, here in Oregon, I was looking forward to seeing you go to work on the mountain pass(es). What I didn't expect was the lightning fast turnaround of filming, editing and posting of this video and still putting out a great video! Well done!
Those outriggers sure make chaining up easier.
They're probably great for changing a tire too!
I love it Casey. Well, you said you want to snow😂. some people just don’t understand who sit on their ass behind a desk. Take care buddy stay safe.
What's with all the doubles? Crazy video and you guys are awesome! As a former first responder for a utility company I have been in those extreme conditions where one step forward matched with two steps backward is going to happen alot! Great job Casey and Ethan.
The LTL doubles, the two he pulled out, are typically too light to have great traction. the double that passed them tarped looked like lumber and probably was max gross weight, so great traction
They're too light on the drive axles (or axle) with enough weight behind them to make it really easy to spin. I used to haul wood chips, sawdust, and construction demo in 53 foot possum belly chip trailers at 105,500. We're allowed 42,500 pounds on the drives and drop axle combined. But when the weather gets bad that drop axle comes up and disperses almost 10,000 pounds of weight to the steer and drives. 15 thousand on a steer and 38-40 thousand on drives makes for great traction.
This was more intense than the most bad ass horror movie. Big applause to Casey and his work skill.
You got the snow and you got the rescues sorted! That ODOT snowplow got you out of the snowbank pretty quick too.
Being a service Bratt and my father a Airforce person in charge of the motorpool. He had big azz Oshkosh rigs with huge plows and blowers to keep the flight line cleared. 😮

This was a wild, dangerous afternoon on the pass. Gives a whole new perspective on things. I appreciate everyone who goes up there and gets home safely. Not an easy or safe environment. I’m glad i could take you all along and show you a *not* so normal day for casey and i. More to come!
Hey Ethan! So happy Casey has someone with him now (most of the time) on jobs - plus doing a great job of filming! He gets himself into some "sketchy" situations and being on Santiam in a blizzard is certainly one of them!👍 Mrs Grumpy
I know some are not bothered at being out in shorts in the winter but consider getting stuck outside not to mention windchill on skin can frost bite fast. I am glad the plow truck helped. I don't think they stop here even after smashing something.
I would bet the UPS driver with the shorts had something in the back for way way cold freezes, don't they basically live in their trucks?
Wearing shorts there ln the winter is beyond stupid I'd say unless he has more clothes in his truck.
He's essentially climbing a mountain and if his truck fails and his night heater it's going to be next stop hypothermia.
My theory about that UPS driver: he’s from Alaska and just considered conditions on that pass real balmy…😂
Plow truck drivers do take care of tow truck drivers, the tow trucks get things out of the way, making the plow truck drivers jobs easier.
@asddddddd6821 this driver was in a daycab, so likely an in town driver not going more than 300mi. I'd hope he had some more clothes in the cab tho. It's one thing as long as the engine runs and you got heat. She dies, and you become a driver-sicle pretty quick!
Good morning Casey.
Being a driver myself (25 years), that dispatcher is SO TYPICAL! Good god people, those damn Amazon packages are NOT that important! Great job as always Casey!
Thank you Ethan! You're a great addition to the channel and I hope to continue to see you around with Casey's shenanigans!

Can't get over the amount of snow that accumulated inside your external control box during the first pull!
I can still see grass peeking out of our "snow" in Minneapolis! ❄
Yea i saw a lot of snow in the control box and it is dark in there
I'm due west of where it was working and down in the rain. This was a beast of a storm, it absolutely poured and blew all day. I ended up with 1.9" of rain in one day. That's about 2 feet of snow.
Yep, in Saint Paul with the same view. Used a broom to clear walkways - not enough to shovel.
@@petgranny194 Grass is just poking through in Blaine and a few flurries just starting to come down, hard to believe last year we had the 3rd snowiest winter on record and this year my plow hours are at zero.
Drove in crappy conditions yesterday, by the time I got home we'd had very little snow here . . . then it started to rain and by this morning there was no snow left. Had to go back where I'd been yesterday and pretty well all of their snow was gone too . . temp was sitting at +4 C/40 F.

The worse the weather the better the video! I'd like a word with that UPS dispatch🤣
great video Casey/Ethan , those are crazy conditions, dispatch Mgrs are people who are control freaks and don't know their ass from a hole in the ground, less than 5% are good people and know the job, i have dealt with my share over the years, Ethan did an awesome job filming, we just went through a bit of a cold spell hitting almost -25 here in the prairies , now heavy snowfall warning for the next 24 hours and then a deep freeze again come Friday night down to near -30 , gotta love prairie life truckers that don't chain up are accidents waiting to happen and the fine should be $2000 not $1000, keep them in check 👍
