On a boring day as an 11 year old, I fired up my original Xbox to find that the previous owner had left Meteora on its hard drive. I fell in love with this and Somewhere I Belong, before spending my teens listening to this bands exceptional music. And now, today, Chester has passed away. Thank you Linkin Park and thank you Chester, for enlightening the lives of millions. You will be missed.

When you contemplate it and vividly picture how everyone would be affected by going through with it, the sorrow becomes overwhelming.
However, I'm reminded that I don't have to go down that path. I'm filled with a renewed determination to push ahead and see the day it stops hurting. If I were to run, my pain would be passed on to my loved ones, its strength increased exponentially. With them by my side, there is hope. If I run from their side, where will their strength to push ahead come from?

When I was at my darkest place in my life, the song Easier To Run was my go to song. My dad left my mom, my 2 younger brothers and I. My mom moved out to live with her aunt and my youngest brother. My other younger brother and I live on our own.
4 years later my mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer, suffered for 2 years then passed. I had to shoulder the responsibility for my brothers. I wanted to run away, I wanted to just disappear forever.
I felt no one is there for me to lean on. Work was tough, when my mom died, I got 2 days off. On my second day, HR called to ask if I’m coming to work the next day. They didn't even ask how am I or do I need more time. They want me back to work the next day. I wanted to leave work but I needed money, I needed my commission. I felt so small and useless.
I dragged my feet to work, I dragged myself to just wake up. I force myself to put a smile. During that period, I isolated myself from friends, just wanted and wished I was just gone. I’m scared if I was gone, who would take care of my brothers.
Listening to Linkin Park really kept me going. Chester, you save lives more than you can ever imagine.
Also, men, sometimes, it’s nice to open up and just cry to someone. I used to always thought I needed to be strong.
For me, this is the most beautiful song by Linkin Park.

    [Chorus] (Chester)
    It's easier to run,
replacing this pain with something numb.
It's so much easier to go,
then face all this pain here all alone.
    [Verse 1] (Chester)
Something has been taken from deep inside of me.
A secret I've kept locked away no one can ever see.
Wounds so deep they never show, they never go away.
Like moving pictures in my head, for years and years they've played.
    (Mike)
If I could change, I would.
Take back the pain, I would.
Retrace every wrong move I made, I would.
If I could stand up and take the blame, I would.
If I could take all the shame to the grave I would.
    (Mike and Chester)
If I could change, I would.
Take back the pain, I would.
Retrace every wrong move I made, I would.

I would take all my shame to the grave.

    It's easier to run,
replacing this pain with something numb.
It's so much easier to go,
then face all this pain here all alone.
    [Verse 2] (Chester)
Sometimes I remember the darkness of my past.
Bringing back these memories I wish I didn't have.
Sometimes I think of letting go, and never looking back.
And never moving forward so there'd never be a past.
If I could stand up and take the blame, I would.
I would take all my shame to the grave.
    [Bridge] (Chester)
    Just washing it aside.
    All of the helplessness inside.
    Pretending I don't feel misplaced
is so much simpler than change.
    [Chorus] (Chester)
    It's easier to run,
replacing this pain with something numb.
It's so much easier to go,
then face all this pain here all alone.
    It's easier to run,

I was feeling completelly alone and I just payed attention to this song's lyric, and it was like Chester was singing what I was feeling, it was like he was representing me and making me feel like someone in this world understood what I was feeling.

I rarely ever comment on anything here on CZcams. But I feel like I have to say this: As a child and listening to Linkin Park, the lyrics are almost meaningless. At least, there were to me. All I knew is that the beats was awesome. And Chester could scream like mad. All these years later, I am 32 years old. It wasnt until his death that every damn song they made became clear: Chester put all of his pain. Anguish. Thoughts. Emotions. He literally put himself into his music. Tons of musicians do that. They write about experiences, both good and bad. That concept is not new when it comes to music. But when you have endured alot like he did, and you know how he died, those words and screams. The lyrics as as whole become even more meaningful. His voice was powerful, there is no doubt. I kind of feel like all he felt like he could do, was scream out his emotions. Scream out his pain. And in the end, it wasn't enough unfortunately. And to think there are SO MANY more out there with the same trauma and experiences he endured. It hurts me to even think about it.
    Stay strong y'all. Please.

There is no way anyone can convince me that this song isn't about his years of childhood molestation. The lyrics say it all. Devastated that this happened to him and all the other children that have been molested. This EMOTIONALLY SCARS, TRAUMATIZES and HAUNTS victims for the rest of their lives. It is almost impossible to come back from emotionally, no matter how long ago it happened. I'm sure this attributed to, if not the main cause of his depression and past drug addiction (to numb the pain). I truly hope he is at peace now and am grateful he graced us with his talent.

jehovantodistaja 12 Whenever I had felt depressed, lonely, neglected, sad, hopeless, guilty, I used to lie over my bed and then I started playing Chester's song and within the touch of his voice, I used to feel hopeful and happy. His songs had not only showed me how to break habits, how to resist myself from drug abuse or drinking alcohol, But His songs showed me the way of light. How to overcome, How to achieve anything, How to feel happy.
Yeh. I could not make friends at my school or coachings. Every one used to make fun of me. Within these 10 years I had lost many of my beloved people. 3 years ago, I lost my beloved cousin whom I used to recall as my sister. 4 Years ago, I lost Both of my Grandfathers. Not to mention, My favorite TV celebrities. But Chester's voice and his tremendous meaningful lyrics used to act like magical remedies for those scarces.
I will never know myself until I do this on my own
And I will never feel anything else, until my wounds are healed
I will never be anything 'til I break away from me
I will break away, I'll find myself today"
This song used to fill the gap of my loneliness and whenever I used listen to this song, I would find my cheek wet. Chester was like a member of my family. I had a plan to meet him one day. But that day had converted to a fairy tale. I lost him forever. Perhaps, From Outside everyone is thinking that I am happy and ok. But from inside, I am virtually empty now. Perhaps, No one will be able occupy his place, No one will be able to make comparision between themselves and Him. And while writting this post, I was crying like that 7 years old Saiful. 😭💔Why Chester Why? You could live for us. Millions of people like me loves you.
Your life was priceless to us.
      You gave me the light
      You touched my life,

I asked what band it was and he told me, Linkin Park. I remember putting many songs on a memory stick for my PSP and listening to them ever since. That was around 2007-08. So about 14-15 years ago. I'll never forget learning my mom planned to buy tickets to Linkin Park when they were gonna perform in the city I lived in for a birthday present but not long after she told me about Chester's suicide. I was 20 and she was 25.
She had a crazy father to her children.
She was a bit of an alcoholic.
She put me through emotional turmoil.
    She broke my heart.
    She was perfect.
She cried when Chester Bennington died.

This song was one of my favorites when I discovered them as a teenager. It just connected with me at a deeper level. I felt it in my soul. I never knew why until now, I’m almost 40.
When I learned about Chester’s past childhood trauma which he and I both share in common, and now I understand why his words in this song and so many others he wrote impacted me so much when I was younger. Now they mean even more to me.
I almost went down that same path when I was in my darkest moments. His passing was one of the biggest losses for me greater than a family member. I know Its not the way but I understand it. Thank you for sharing your pain with us using your voice to express what so many of us felt & didn’t know how to say. Love you brother. See you in paradise.

One of their more underrated and haunting tracks. The lyrics showcases the dark experiences Chester had to go through were he channeled all his pain and used it as fuel and motivation along with his talent with the rest of the band to write and compose all these classic hits, that's why im thankful that songs like this exist to show that we are not alone and can relate to what he was going through and helped us become stronger. I will forever be thankful to LP for their music, being the first band to get into and see them live (thankfully before Chester's passing) and for help making me become the person I am today in general.
