Salmond himself admitted in his 2015 book that he lost the first debate because he wasn't being himself, but by god what a comeback he had here. I often ponder if the referendum result would have been different had this debate been the first and only debate between the two of them that had taken place (I recall seeing research post referendum that his debate didn't change as many minds as people made up their minds after the first one). I don't think I've ever seen such a brutal, yet controlled take down of a politician in any debate. It's hard to overstate just what it was like watching live at the time. Following this debate on the 25th August 2014, everything up until the 17th September 2014 was among some of the best days of my life with all the campaigning that took place.
