  • From the North London Line DLC I drive the Class 378 in a tricky scenario. We're heading for Stratford, the weather is poor and there have been problems on the line already which has made is late. Those cardboard cut-out passengers in the back are late for work and they're not happy!

    In the US we'd call it a soccer "field." "Pitch" is almost never used over here. When you're looking from the outside and have the HUD up, there is a visual notification of the alarm, it's the box that's normally a grey exclamation point there. Hearing it would definitely be nicer, but it does change to black and yellow stripes when it goes off.

    They haven't completely removed the aquatics centre, they just took off the ugly extra side pieces as the extra seating was surplus to requirements.

    I checked a tube map, it does indeed appear as an overground station. However, that logo at the station wasn't the Tube logo, it was the overground logo because it had orange. The "roundel" as the logo is known is the iconic logo for Transport for London, with different colours for each.
    For example, Overground is orange, Underground is red, and Tramlink is green, but they all have the blue bar on the round ring of a different colour. Little thing about Stratford too, Stratford station and Stratford International are separate stations, though personally I think they should be linked for better connectivity.
    Yes, you did hear a cat too :P. Great video once again, and well done on the Gold, or GLOD as some people like to call it, they will know who they are ;)

    The overground is an amalgamation of former lines to form a sort of M25 as the mayor called it of inner London rail. The depot whistle is by request of TfL who own the line to sound when entering the depot, and to signal to platform staff when there's an issue. The tube trains have this whistle as standard but not common place on BR lines.

  • @jakeoram5161
    @jakeoram5161 Před 8 lety

    Paul, If you didn't know, the 2 beeps you here after the doors close, it is a signal buzzer which means that the train manager/door manager has checked that the doors are closed and no other passengers are getting on. You have to respond to that by the key command or on the button on the interior so the driver knows that he is cleared for departure.

  • @oceannspiritt659
    @oceannspiritt659 Před 6 lety

    I've just been researching and found out that the overground used to go to Broad street, Woolwich and it also had a route via primrose hill (I think thats the name).
    For example, London Overground used to be known as the West London Line, East London Line (previously run by the metropolitan line), the south london line, which was run by southern and still sees southeastern trains to this day and the North London Line, which was run by silverlink metro. When the overground came into effect, it used to be run by class 313s in three car units until the 378/0s came in. From there all trains were extended to 4 cars, now being /1s and 2s. The /1s didn't have pantographs fitted so they served the east london line whereas the /2s did have pantographs fitted to served the services up to stratford from Richmond and clapham junction.
    In 2012 the east london line was extended from surrey quays to clapham junction via denmark hill and this was when the 5 car units started operation and to this day, all overground trains with 378s running are 5 car units. In 2015, the overground took over some routes in the north eg. Romford to Upminster, liverpool street to enfield and cheshunt etc. Today overground are electrifying the goblin line and bringing back the overgrown platforms for the new trains which are replacing the 172s.

    The next station on the North London Line is Kentish Town West just to be clear.

    FYI the word wick and also placename suffixes -wick or -wich derive from Old English wīc. Meanings vary but usually is either farm, salt mine or a place where goods are bought and sold. In the case of London most of the wicks were either farms or riverside landing places, seems in the case of Hackney Wick the former is the more likely origin.

    Any platform where any part of the train is passed the 'S' sign is not a good stop. It does not open the front carriage doors.
