Movie is now one of the highest grossing animated movies in existence. Mario movie sequels, spinoffs, and presumably other Nintendo franchises are heading to the big screen in the future!

Isn't it crazy how everyone was so down on the idea of an Illumination Mario movie when announced, but ended up being SUPER respectful to the source material, beautifully animated, and an overall banger of a film.
Well to be fair people ragged on Blue Sky too but then churrned out the Peanuts movie and that was awesome. Plus it helped that Nintendo was heavily involved so that was the least problematic thing to me. The much bigger ones to me were the directors they picked for the movie, and I'm happy they proved me wrong. They did such a good job on this and it makes me optimistic for the sequel too.

It is, but I believe that Nintendo held a gun to the head of illumination’s writing team, telling them to make a good film and not butcher their most iconic franchise.
@@KOOPAS1234 Bullcrap it was pretty much exactly as lazy as the show itself, and also I still hate how critics gave that a pass. Then gave something like this with genuine effort put into it a much harder time.
It reminds me of the everyone not on board with a live action Sonic movie.
No matter what the critics say, this movie is absolutely incredible and easily deserves the records it's broken. I can't wait to see what Nintendo does next with this new NCU.

I stopped believing in critics a long time ago. Cuties and Leaving Neverland were the two things that made me stop believing in them. One film being a hit piece on a dead man not here to tell his side of the story and the other being pro pedophilia garbage that somehow got green lit for Netflix. Let us not forget some movies as well that are legit garbage, which audiences sometimes hate.
Yeah, critics are never to be trusted. They're dirty people. The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a good movie and I stand by that. Granted it ain't earth shattering, but it was still a fun time.

Absolutely not true, you know how boring movies would become if they never challenged your political beliefs. Most of the greatest movies ever made are political.
But people today just complain about anything these days. Try watching a Scorsese movie without politics. You can't because they don't exist.
@@devinmay3038 It depends how it's handled. Not all films with political ideologies are good. Just look at Lightyear and Strange World. When films try and force their ideologies on others, it usually backfires and focuses less on the story and more on what they themselves believe is right and wrong and want others to think like they do. Though that being said, if done correctly, it can be absolutely phenomenal. If a film can make me morally question what's right and wrong cleverly, then I'd say it's done it's job just fine. It all depends on how it's handled. But I still think the plot should come first as the priority.

@spiderboi but I still think they don’t shove it in unlike other film *ahem Space Jam 2* also, to give points to the movie, it has fantastic animation, great ost, the action was pretty great, and most of the voice cast were pretty good. I don’t think it’s perfect at all, in fact i don’t think it’s even an amazing movie, it has tons of issues, like the lack in development for most characters and weak story, but for what it’s trying to accomplish which is a fun movie for fans and an entertaining movie for everyone, it succeeds

I feel like the reason video game movies have been getting much better recently is because they’re finding ways to incorporate the game mechanics into a movie format, and they’re hiring writers, directors, and actors who are fans of the franchise, and actually know what they’re doing.
And the fact that they're finally getting out of the arcade Era. Seriously, like every video game movie in the 2010s was all about arcade games!

That and I think they finally closed this french tax law loophole that let filmmakers use the flopped movies as tax shelters. I'm probably wrong, but it does make a bit of sense to me.
Honestly ever since now the Mario film has finally reached 1 billion dollars, it has to be one of my favorite video game animated films out there since Mario has impacted many lives of video gaming for almost 40 years. And I think there’s one goal that the film needs to achieve ever since it surpassed Disney;
Surpass the first Avatar film, to which it’ll become the world’s most beloved and highest grossing video game and animated movies in the world
I may be a big Nintendo fan, but looking at the rate the box office for the Mario movie is going, I think it would just stop at around $1 billion and around 300 million
I can see Nintendo growing even bigger than Disney.
The fact this movie is 1 third of the way to highest grossing of all time is actually insane.
The fact that the movie made 1 billion dollars yet it wasn't in Japan yet is just facinating

That’s a lot of gold coins for the whole Mario family.
I personally think this is BY FAR the best video game movie yet. Sonic 1 was ok at best, because ti felt like a generic 'human teams up with CGI animal from another world' and could easily had Sonic and Eggman replaced with OCs with no difference on the film. Sonic 2 was fun and felt like a real SONIC movie, as it used more lore, but Mario just nailed it. A few issues like pacig are a thing with it, but Mario is easily a High B+ or a low A- to me

The Mario Movie, Sonic The Hedgehog Movie and Detective Pikachu Movie were spectacular video game movies but, Vailskibum didn’t mention The Angry Birds Movie, which was also Spectacular

Angry Birds was so fun I rewatched it thousands of times as a kid, even now I still enjoy it with all the references and humor it has.

I find it really cool how the previous Mario movie flopped badly in sales (and reviews), but when they tried it again… it became a massive box office phenomenon!
Sonic is crying in a corner now (I'm a Sonic fan and I'm crying with him), but congrats to Mario. From the doubts getting destroyed to 1 billion dollars.

I mean Mario is waaaay more known than Sonic, it was kind of obvious that it would DESTROY every other video game adaptation.

Remember when comic book films were seen as box office poison, but hit it big in the 2010s? I have a feeling that the 2020s are going to be the era of Video Game movies making a comeback.
Totally deserved it. Nintendo and Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a really fun movie and it was a love letter to Mario and Nintendo fans. Can’t wait the sequel and the next Nintendo movies.

This is amazing! We've literally been getting video game movies on the same years of Disney TV Animated shows! In 2016, we got the Phineas and Ferb sister show, Milo Murphy's Law Season 1 and The Angry Birds Movie! In 2019, we got Milo Murphy's Law Season 2, Detective Pikachu, Amphibia and The Angry Birds Movie 2! In 2020, we got The Owl House, Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie and Amphibia Season 2! In 2022, we got Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie 2 and the Amphibia series finale! And finally this year, 2023, we got The Super Mario Bros Movie and The Owl House series finale!
Not to mention that Mario and the Owl House finale both released over Easter weekend which made it feel more special

I think the reason why the Mario movie got a billion dollars at the box office was because its an Illumination movie and their movies always score billions at the box office, ESPECIALLY Minions/Despicable Me! Either way I’m happy it finally reached the big number! WAHOO!

Well the movie was amazing, even though Chris Pratt voiced Mario, I didn’t mind. I was hyped for the Mario Kart sequence where they played AC/DC’s Thunderstruck.
