o the best music to go to sleep to in the world...my mother use to put me asleep to john hurt, this song was a child hood favorite, you do it justice...that's saying alot.
Awesome guitar work! Nice singing too. The funny thing about MJH is he makes the grittiest subjects sound sweet... and you do too. Good cover. I wish I could play it like that!
mrgabest, imagine if she were a guy. I don't think you'd be saying that. She just doesn't happen to be smiling like crazy while playing and singing. IplayBanjoNow I love these songs of his and you do such a faithful and nice job, thanks!
Wow; I think this lady's style and playing is gritty and great, just as John Hurt' was. The expression on her face is soulful to the max and her picking is right on! Why, she plays it almost as good as myself, by gosh. Keep pickin and don't grin if you don't want to.
So many b.s. comments. This is the hardest MJH song to play. She kicks its ass. Buy the woman some recording equitment if you want a better sound. She looks beautifully dead serious. I love this video.
You are doing some amazing work with every song you tackle. If you ever release any recordings please let us know, or if you travel and perform abroad. Good luck with all your projects.
just WOW - that bridge run is one of the most amazing guitar parts ever written and you nail it with such collective. I love it. come to Hermann MO for a gig some time - I wanna hear ya live. C
Hi Sara' You are entitled to your opinion? the artist has a great voice and sings the songs perfectly, as well as playing a piece of guitar which many bluespeople believe to be a right of passage. Have you listened to much MJH? He is renowned for his subtle understated style. these songs are not necessarily about the pain in his life but are often shared tin pan alley lyrics, each bluesman added his twist to make them their own, IPLAYBANJONOW is following in this tradition. We love it thanks
You play and sing really well! Thanks for showing me that it's not just us old guys that are into Mississippi John Hurts music, and you do it justice. You can check my meagre efforts but I look like a gimp cos if I think about how I look my fingers stop working!
Technique's great, picking and vocal. All you need is some heart and soul. This song is about a guy who's girl is cheating on him with drugs and a dealer. You make it sound like she's sucking lollipops. Add guts, girl-- I'm sure you've got 'em!
@onesadsong I think it's because she is being controlled from a different world. A blues channeling interdimentional Exene Cervenka-June Carter. Maybe she's high on something. That's stupid actually, she is who she is. Her voice floats very naturally above the playing. They're both intense. 'Kay's Husband' is wicked. I wish the lyrics were available.
I think this was by Rev Gary Davis and not MJH even though MJH did play it. Your playing is excellent. I learned it years ago and now don't remember and it it and it too hard to try and relearn.
@mrgabest shes focused .. you dont pay attention to how you look when your lost in the music.. besides the candy man is scary eh can make you mad thinking about him .. har har har
Yatah, I don't have a vid of me playing, I think you took what I said too seriously. I think her rendition is very good, and maybe mine isn't as good as hers. It doesn't really matter, but she doesn't do any slurs, slides or hammer-ons. I really dig her though, and that she has chosen this music is frigen great, she be real gude. I didn't mean to raise your back, Yatah. I have a version of me doing it on 12 string my own way. But I learned MJH's version 40 years ago. I be ancient, Bob
Christine... I miss your playing and singing so much, please can you come back?
I’ve been playing that song for fifty years, and you do it better than me 😂🎉Great job 👍
I listen to this every now and then and it is so touching. Waiting for another upload from you!

Been a while since I watched this,. Christine. A brilliant piece of playing. Love it.
Wow; I think this lady's style and playing is gritty and great, just as John Hurt' was. The expression on her face is soulful to the max and her picking is right on! Why, she plays it almost as good as myself, by gosh. Keep pickin and don't grin if you don't want to.
Wow keep on the good work, you just make me discover more and more classics and I like that. Great interpretation.

Beautiful finger pickin' and vocal!! mmmm.. I have to more and more practice my guitar playing.

So many b.s. comments. This is the hardest MJH song to play. She kicks its ass. Buy the woman some recording equitment if you want a better sound. She looks beautifully dead serious. I love this video.

That's a tricky piece, and you pulled it off really well. Excellent cover.

You certainly do the John Hurt stuff well...thank you for posting
Great!! !! !!
5 ***** from Sweden as well. I think this piece is the most difficult to play of all MJHs songs. You play it excellent!
He wrote this song about me! HAHAHAHA love your vids and picking. I try to practice it. So tough...
You nailed it! Very nice!
The tab is available on Songsterr, but it has the easier less flashy introduction. I had not heard this introduction before. Pretty cool.
thanks for making that one part clear, thanks. now marry me.
good job

Are you still playing banjo? A comeback would be appreciated
