    The telepathic link between maker and child is only in the movies, in the books vampires are able to sense the presence and read the minds of other vampires, excepts their child's or maker, Armand warns Lestat that he will use the dark gift just for the company, but in the end he will always be alone due to the previous reason. In the book Lestat Turns his Mother Gabriell and Love interest Miki, and he was unable to feel or read them, like how he does other vampires, eventually Miki grew to hate him the moment he was turned, and his mother had completely different ideal (he wants to live with civilization while she was to avoid it)which is why she and Lestat eventually part ways. Not long after that he meets Marius.

    For way of small correction The movie Queen of the Damned covered both The Vampire Lestat & The Queen of the Damned novels (poorly I might add as it leaves out several characters in each novel and fails to tell just whom the Children of the Millenia are ) as such the second novel in the the Vampire Chronicles was not skipped in the least. That said great video & I enjoy your channel.

    • @dastardlyduke2638
      @dastardlyduke2638 Před 2 lety +18

      Agreed. There was so much material in the "Vampire Lestat" that by itself probably required 2 movies at running time of 150 minutes. Then attempt to squish 2 novels into 1 movie. I had to look at the movie for what it is and it definitely had a killer sound track.

      This comment is the understatement of the century. The stupid movie was so busy trying to cover both books that it nearly failed to cover either book. It didn't just leave characters out, it changed whole plots! Marius did not create Lestat! The vampires in Ann's universe aren't bats that hiss at one another. Leave that crap to the Blade trilogy LOL!! Suuuuuuch an awful movie.

    • @jeric0777
      @jeric0777 Před 2 lety +6

      Anne Rice is my favorite author and The Vampire Lestat my favorite book. They should have just said the movie Queen of the Damned was "loosely based" on the books. They changed so many components that it scarcely resembled the books' universe at all. In addition to the differences that others have stated, at one point Marius tells Lestat he could have found him at any time because he created him, whereas in the books the only vampires they COULDN'T telepathically connect with were the ones they created or were created by.
      I had to forget I ever read the books to be able to enjoy the movie and if it weren't for the awesome soundtrack and Stuart Townsend being hot I don't think I would have. Why did they all sound like Transylvanian Draculas? 😖

  • @MGC-XIII

    The old vampire clad in white is the creator of Marius btw, he was a vampire that was trapped in a giant oak and Marius was given as a sacrifice by the druids tending to the oak and the vampire inside believing the vampire to be a forest god.
    The vampire was badly burned due do an event that happened thousand of years ago where Akasha was exposed to sunlight in an attempt to kill her, this was done by Maharets twin sister.
    Maharet had her eyes plugged out before she was turned and her twin sister her tongue. (oh you explained this right after I wrote this xD)
    In the book Maharets sister is the one that drinks the last drop of blood from Akasha and absorbs her essence.
    Also Akasha is made from a demon summoning ritual (Amel) and she's inhabited by said demon (at least a part of it, this might've been retconned later on when Anne Rice started mixing God, Jesus and the Devil into the lore)

    In the book Armand describes the vampires Lestat made as "the silent ones" to him, and Lestat agrees because Lestat can read every mind except for the minds of his vampire children. however the children can reach each other's mind.
    Marius can know where Lestat is because he is 2000 years old. The movie fucks it up.
    In the book is Marius who introduces those who must be kept to Lestat, and Akasha tells Lestat her name, Lestat feels afraid and terrified but then Marius talks to him and explains stuff about them and Marius offers Akasha blood to him, but warns him, Akasha's blood is the purest blood it will make you stronger and if you are like that and you are burned you will live like a husk for centuries it is going to be painful, so be sure that what you want is true immortality.

    I love your channel, and I just wanted to share an interesting take on vampires from a Dutch book series that was never translated in English from the late 90's/early 2000s, the Valentina Hellebel books by the late author Eddy C. Bertin. It's age demographic is similar to R.L Stine's books and mixes Lovecraftian horror with folklore and witchcraft and bits of religious horror.
    The vampires of the story are the Delcruza family. Originally a human noble (aristocratic) family of Portuguese descent who were active in slave trade. Forced by a circumstances, they were forced to go back to Europe, buying a mansion in a village called Huyze Steenveld in 1859.
    However, this village was essentially cursed.
    The mansion they bought, was previously occupied by a wizard dabbling in the dark arts, Alphonsius Ghelai who had a background in astronomy and alchemy. To achieve immortality, he called upon the power of the comet that was linked to the astrological sign Scorpio, which is why the comet was given the name 'Ghelai Scorpio'. The comet was a cosmic force, a mother and her child. Her child fell down to earth and Alphonsius trapped it within the darkest form of magic, something called the Nightside. The Nightside are dimensions of pure evil, calling it 'hell' would be an understatement. He studied the cosmic child intently, and after realizing it needed blood to survive, started studying vampire legends. Only the child couldn't tolerate human blood, for the child wasn't human themselves. It thought it would starve, until Alphonsius sacrificed 15 people, one for each star in the Scorpio zodiac. He drank each of their blood, and having drank the blood of the child as well, transformed. Then, he started feeding the child his own blood and thus, a forced partnership was born. Alphonsius quickly grew tired of it, however. He didn't liked drinking blood, and made vampires out of his victims so the child could feed off of them instead. His immortality and power weren't his true desire, that was ultimate knowledge. In his search of it, he did started to understand things humans couldn't possibly fathom, but it also drove him insane. He committed suicide, but not before ordering his vampire slaves to make a magical machine that would keep the child trapped, for he hated the child after realizing he couldn't handle ultimate knowledge.
    His vampire slaves eventually left, and became the classical vampires as we know them.
    The Delcruza family, wasn't as lucky. Each of them were Scorpio, and you can only become a vampire if you're a Scorpio. Having no slaves to feed herself, the child turnt the family into her slaves (considering the Delcruzas were dealing in slave trade, one can say karma is a bitch).
    To lure in innocent victims, the Delcruza family are human by day. In their human forms, they have no memory of being vampires, being immortal or anything. The only way to get them to remember, is when they try to leave the village but they get sick the further they go. So they are doomed to go back and have their memories whiped.
    When night time approaches, they get sickly looking white spots on their faces, that seem to grow as darker as it gets outside, and seem to slowly become aware of their true nature. When its night, they vomit out all of their food, because they cannot process it. Their tongues grow, and resemble thick worms. Their eyes are generally white as well, as the Nightside's trademark colour is a sickly white and its territory can get a bit foggy (like Silent Hill). Whilst in this state they fully remember, but they do not feel remorse for their victims in their vampire state. In their human state, nearby the edges of town, they can be compassionate and try to get humans to escape before they become dinner. Their cruel nature as their vampire selves is likely the Nightside's influence, as it corrupts anyone, regardless of their nature as it also did with the child.
    They feast on anyone they can find, and when the Nightside's influence is at its strongest, the child manifests through Nightside servants called the Vampcats, who feed upon the vampires in return as the child still cannot consume human blood.
    The Vampcats, are as you can imagine, crossbreeds between a bat and a cat. Alphonsius, obsessed with the vampire myths, shaped the child's physical manifestation into a bat, but the child was actually fond of the cats walking around the village and wanted to take their shape instead, resulting into a crossbreed.
    By night, the Delcruza fear the Vampcats, and by day, they loathe them with their eldest, Nigel, hunting them often in his human state but he never managed to kill one.
    Because of the constant deaths, the village eventually grew abandoned, with the Delcruzas final contact with human society having seemingly ended around the 60s, as evidenced by Nigel being a huge Elvis Presley fan and not being aware he died decades ago as well as him and his little sister Paula wearing old fashioned jeans.
    Eventually, they are killed by the child when the comet was at the sky once again, and having tricked the heroine Valentina into the village, forced her to destroy Alphonsius' machine as the child is homesick and just wanted to go back to its mom.
    With their reunion came an end to the curse on the Huyze Steenveld village.

    • @purplecherry5202
      @purplecherry5202 Před 2 lety

      @@paigeconnelly4244 From what I remember, she was mad that they put two books together, but the truth is that they didn't have time or money to make two movies separately, the time for having rights to the story was ending and making just Vampire Lestat, when it's so connected to Queen Of the Damned would be like making half movie. Also Lestat in the Interview with the Vampire and Lestat in the Queen of the Damned (both books and movies) is not the same. In the 'Interview...' we get to know him thought Louis eyes, it's his story, so the way Lestat was portraited by Tom was great, he was creepy, murderous, he didn't really care about others, he only said he did and he didn't do anything that wasn't actually for his enjoyment. Lestat from the other movie and other books is not like that, he was a brat, but he wasn't the complete monster. He was more complicated and he actually had feelings. I wish he would get the complete story with all characters, but money and time won.
