I had never seen them before and it was pretty unsettling. They made one pass over and then circled back. On the second fly over my car suddenly went dead and I lost power so had to coast to a stop on the side of the highway.
    The aircraft didn’t fly over again and my car started without any issues. It was a very strange experience and one that I still look back on.

      Compare the serb's with the ottoman's during the italian ottoman war in Libya 1911.

    • @scottgraham4038
      @scottgraham4038 Před 3 lety +3

      @@JetFalcon710 18 feet is tall! I could definitely see an SR-71 being a big plane--certainly a very long plane--big enough to carry enough fuel to do what it does. I was surprised to hear that the fuselage of the craft leak fuel when on the ground so that the titanium sheets that the plane is constructed from have enough room to expand and seal back up in flight.

    • @JetFalcon710
      @JetFalcon710 Před 3 lety +3

      @@scottgraham4038 Yeah, the SR-71 is also very long. I believe all the space behind the cockpit is just for fuel. It was also usually refueled shortly after takeoff, mostly because the SR-71 could take off more easily with a smaller fuel load. And yeah, it did leak JP-7 fuel while on the runway. There wasn't much risk of it being ignited, though, because trying to light the stuff with something other than TEB was like trying to light engine oil on fire -- it's flammable, yes, but its flash point is too high for it to be lit with matches or a lighter

It performed the majority of the deep-strike missions, and only one was lost out of thousands of sorties and over almost 30 years. Compare that to Russia losing 4-10 aircraft in just one week against tiny foe Georgia and against Sams that it should have known how to defeat, and then perhaps you will have a greater appreciation for it.
