Got my beagle as a family pet. Knew they were hunting dogs but didn’t realize how strong their sense of smell is. Learned quick that it’s nothing like walking non hunting dogs. So interesting/entertaining watching them go into hunting mode even on a walk through the neighborhood

My Dachshund can't keep up with Beagles but she can hang back to kill a rabbit on her own when it circles back.
The Beagles often look at their humans as if to ask "How come she gets to kill the rabbit?"
Bella's real tight mouthed but Jelly Bean will bellow if she even smells a rabbit or squirrel out there.

      @@raveenajayaraman7844 Why?
      If it works, it works.
I doubt the foxes, but hounds can always do a lil chasing.
With a 2nd dog, maybe a bigger one or a Terrier, in combo, the 2nd one could grab it, if that is what the hunter wants, can shoot after it as well and just use the Beagle for driving it out of the bushes etc.
Dont know but in my country we use our dogs for multipurpose- of course we dont use a Beagle for what it cant do, but they can hunt deer like other hounds on driven hunts n they also can chase em foxes a lil.
We can only use em for rabbits up to a certain land size by law, thats why their purpose was widened onto deer and maybe boars (only chasing- Wont do anything else, Beagles after all, but thats what the Terriers can do).
