As awful as Jia could be, in this moment I pitied her. She was initially meant to marry the Prince of Yu, but then had her life and dreams dashed when she was given as a consort to the Emperor. Just seeing the Prince again gave her the strength to carry on. And she was fortunate to still have Linxin on her side after everything. If only she could’ve stayed docile and kind, but Jia really was a product of the environment and times she was thrown into.
Jia was never docile or kind. She did every evil she could think of without hesitation. She never uttered anything close to an apology/regret. I have 0 ounces of pity for her.
So sad, Jia's love for the Yu clan prince (who was the *king of "korea"/Joseon in real life) was so strong and everlasting that she sacrificed everything for it, it seems to be the only thing she was ever sincere about in this show.

Hate love, love hate is how i feel abiut Jia. She is clearly doing horrendous things but that's the product of the environment she is thrown in. If she had married the king of korea she might have been more warm hearted and happily married. But alas she was chosen to be the emperor's bride instead. I feel the anguish of losing her lover to marry someone so fsr away with no one to turn to. Luckily she had her servant but she didnt get to stay long either
She did all sorts of evil deeds, but I cannot help but feel pity for these women. All of them trapped in a marginalized marriage and at the mercy of the whims of a man who sees them as amusements and breeding stock. Add in those pitiful eunuchs, and the Forbidden City (despite its riches) just seems steeped in sadness and misery.
and the prospect that most of the women in the harem were probably married to the emperor against their will, and that they would be living the rest of their lives in the forbidden city with no one to treat that as equal human beings, no status', just as a person.
On the surface, they are nobles that everyone envy, but who can understand their misfortune

I just realized even in seeing these clips again and again from time to time that in Jia's plight or in her hardest moments her clothes in color and in pattern/design look the same (reddish, pinkish even a little brown) and also in accessories too!
She often wear red or reddish clothes which is supposed to be the empress's or a brides color, it showed her ambition.

I don't get it. Why was it a bad time for Zhen shu to be sent back? Also, not saying that it wasn't bad, but why was the prince of yu clan called back? Was his wife part of the Qing royal family or something? Why did he push her to commit suicide in the first place?
Hi, i can only help you with some observations:
1. Zhenshu was trained as a healer and gugu for the position next to Jia and was sent with her to Qing. Failure was not seen as acceptable back then and the prince was surely not in a good mood either as he had been lectured and demoted by the emperor. On coming back she would have been forced to commit suicide or was executed. So sending her back was a death sentence.
2. All the vasall kings of the qing empire had a specific code of "honor" that they should live up to. Forcing his wife to kill herself (maybe he was forced into the marriage and did not like her or whatever the reason may have been) was a strong breach of this and also the tennets of buddhism and confucianism the empire followed. We dont know why he forced her to die but from what we have heard from Jia she was smitten with him quite easily. Maybe he was a womanizer and wanted another women? Or maybe he had his eyes on someone else as first wife. From his behavior we can assume that he was just as calculating as the emperor and used the people around him as pawns - may it be for pleasure or power.
