I love the actress who plays Consort Jia though. She got so into it that she broke her finger in that last scene where they slammed the doors, but she kept going and they kept the take.
The young man that played the older Yongcheng is a wonderful actor. He played this part so well and you really feel for him as he was as much a victim of his mother’s machinations as all of the other characters that she harmed over the years. I know it’s a historical drama based on events that may or may not have actually happened but the drama is done (written, directed and acted) so well, you could see things taking place in just this way. I find myself watching these snippets of the story line over and over again. It is all so beautifully done.
Side note is that the actor had the doors open the second he could after filming and right away went to check up on Jia's actress as her getting her hand slammed in the door is real but played so well with the scene. Thankfully the hand was only bruised.
I love how while the other concubines are waiting outside, Jia starts griping about the heat, about how weak the Empress is etc. and they all look at her like "For the love of Buddha, hold your tongue". xD And Jia's complete shock later when the Emperor finally reprimands and disciplines her for her behaviors over the years it's like "Really girl? You're this shocked? You had it coming!"
Even late Empress Xiaoxian advised her to behave properly at the beginning when Jia badmouthing Emperor decision on taking Bai Ruiji as his concubine on his father mourning period 😂😂
Ikr?!? She spent years cursing Ruyi and her children. Scheming and plotting.....she didn't even have sense enough to keep her hateful mouth shut in front of the others.
A mixture of the very real desperation of all the harem women, and probably a great deal of expected entitlement in Jia's character. Harem women played a dangerous and stressful game of one-up-man-ship all the time, where a misstep could mean death. Plus, their clans expected them to pursue money and favour from the emperor to be funelled back to the clan. It wasn't an easy life at all. I imagine the hardest would have thrived the best. You had to be canny and quick.
This is what I like about Hailan, she knows how to play the game carefully and smartly. Maybe it's partly because Hailan was coming from a small clan with no power and influence, not like Jia who believes that her powerful maiden clan will always have her back. Jia played her game ruthlessly, couldn't even hold her mouth shut when it needed to be shut and did things that were actually unnecessary. Hailan played her game with careful mouth and careful movement. If not for her loyalty to Ruyi and the fact that her every action was solely for Ruyi's sake, Hailan will surely able to reach higher status and probably will smoothly take Yongqi to the crown prince's seat.
But Hailan became strong after Ruyi encouraged her to fend for herself. I remember there was an episode where Hailan came crying to Ruyi after being bullied, despite the latter being locked in the Cold Palace. Ruyi told her to become strong to protect herself so that Ruyi can be at ease even when locked away.
What I love in the end is that Jia may not have been a true member of the Yu Clan, thus all the power she had was nothing at all. I say may as that could have been the only way for The Yu Clan lord to save face by claiming that she was a foundling and not a true born Member of the Clan
Wow, I a lot of credit needs to be given to the actress who played Jia, did you see how her wrist got slammed in the door but she still continued the scene, even though she screamed in real pain, she stayed in character and finished the act!

The small smile on Romp Pei's face shows she appreciates Hailan's speaking style. Hailan tells on Jia and makes it appear she doesn't want to. Jia never learned how to read the room or when to shut up. As a result, she punished herself more effectively than anyone in the harem ever could.

And then Jia finding out that it may been all for nothing since The Yu Clan lord sent a letter saying that she was adopted which could have been a way for That clan to save face even if Jia was infact a real daughter of the clan and not some foundling

I hate to burst Jia's bubble, but she had it coming, and she not only lost her title as concubine, but her son also the one that she gave birth and basically lived alone for the rest of her days. The emperor and the other concubines were like "Girl, for the love of Jesus, be quiet and swear to The Lord that you committed these wrongdoings" and she was like "If I did, I would be dead right now and drag all of you with me." The actress that played this character killed it as always and left no crumbs for that.

The actress playing Consoort Jia is soooo goood. So is the actress playing Consort Ling. I have since watched them play other roles in different series. They are so different. RRLITP has some of the best actors in China.
Jia is the best wild card in the harem, a cunning and manipulative woman with positive sides (loves her Prince Yu and her clan so much she will do anything for their glories)💕
You could tell in this clip which consorts liked Ruyi and who didn't. The look on their faces says it all. WONDERFUL actresses. Emperor is good too. I have seen Jia in another movie BAttle through the Heavens and liked her in it. Also Hialan, in a movie called The Empress of China where she was a villain in the end. The movie had the emperor's father in too. I would love to see more of any of them.

In the history, the Royal Prince Rongchun (5th prince) was skillful and was, according to Qianlong's conversation with foreigners, considered as an heir. But unfortunately he died prematurely at the age of 25. Another fascinating fact is Yu Guifei lost a favour even she's the only one from the Prince's manor and lived quite long, but she bestowed the rank lower than many consorts. It's strange. Maybe she did something wrong.
Also possible that she gained status because her son was favoured, but lost it when he died. A mother's status influences a prince or princess' status, and vice versa...

What she couldn’t deal with was the shame. None of that would have consoled her when she had been abandoned by everyone: her husband, her clan, even her own son. She put a lot of stock in position and noble bloodlines; it meant everything to her. For her to be cast down to commoner, denied parentage by her clan, and have her own children cast out of a royal bloodline is a fate worse than death.
Yongcheng loved his mom so much. But she still kept her prince before anyone and everyone. He must have been so hurt because he lost his title as prince and lost her but she still kept trying to scheme.

I despise Yanwan, but I felt good for her when she looked at Jia triumphantly while she was getting dragged out. Yuyan tormented Yanwan endlessly as a palace maid AND as one of the emperor’s women. I really can’t blame her reaction.
That added to the pain you could hear in her voice. True actress to used the real pain she was feeling into her lines. When the filming was done the actor who played her son couldn't open the door fast enough it seemed and went to check up on her. All she did was give out a little whine that couldn't really be called a whine and shake her hand.
Love Ruyi, Love Consort Yu Keliyete Hailan, Love the Emperor play his part here. It is alright for flustered Nobel Consort Jia to complain about it being hot and complain about how long are they supposed to wait. Guess that is not being weak. She is going to defame Ruyi like Ruyi is nothing.
Back in those days they thought having so many wives and concubines were a good thing. But look at all the drama of all those women the Emperor, have to deal with. He have to run the country and deal with all the drama in his household. Those women are restless fighting and plotting to gain favor of the Emperor.
She was basically under house arrest until she dies. From the other clips, her oldest son can stop by but in the end he avoided her too so not to taint his reputation. She died without ever seeing her sons again.
She lived in isolation for a while in her palace, and then her maiden clan wrote a letter saying that she wasn't actually from the Jin clan, and that they couldn't be sure she actually was of noble birth. (Likely very untrue, they were just disowning her to save face and try to placate the emperor.) Ruyi goes to Jia while she is in isolation and gets answers for some of the mysteries surrounding deaths and tragedies, and Ruyi tells Jia that her maiden clan disowned her, and she will essentially die in shame locked in her own palace. Later Jia sits in front of a mirror and recognizes the wrong of her ways and makes a promise not to behave like this in her next life, to not scheme and live her life for someone else. Jia dies alone, dressed in her maiden clan clothes, and seems to be at peace.

No, it wasn't. She really injured her hand by accident, but she didn't miss a beat and kept on acting well. There is a video on here showing her bruised hand afterwards.
My Lord. All of the children born of those concubines were pitifully treated. Their mothers cared more about luxury and status and heaven forbid that I should forget they put most of their energy into staying on the good side of the Emperor. Those women didn't care about their own flesh and blood. I just hope the children didn't suffer like that in real life.

When the filming was done the actor who played her son couldn't open the door fast enough it seemed and went to check up on her. So what happens to Jia? She lives in a palace forever but in isolation? She will never see the emperor...but she can see her son occasionally?
Finally died and couldn't see anyone
She was basically under house arrest until she dies. From the other clips, her oldest son can stop by but in the end he avoided her too so not to taint his reputation. She died without ever seeing her sons again.
She lived in isolation for a while in her palace, and then her maiden clan wrote a letter saying that she wasn't actually from the Jin clan, and that they couldn't be sure she actually was of noble birth. (Likely very untrue, they were just disowning her to save face and try to placate the emperor.) Ruyi goes to Jia while she is in isolation and gets answers for some of the mysteries surrounding deaths and tragedies, and Ruyi tells Jia that her maiden clan disowned her, and she will essentially die in shame locked in her own palace.
Later Jia sits in front of a mirror and recognizes the wrong of her ways and makes a promise not to behave like this in her next life, to not scheme and live her life for someone else. Jia dies alone, dressed in her maiden clan clothes, and seems to be at peace.

@@theninjacat7200 You're welcome! Jin Yuyan is actually my third favorite character behind Ruyi and Hailan. She had such a depth of character besides seeming shallow. The scene of her death was very moving because of how she acknowledged the things she had done wrong.
