I finally finished watching the whole drama. 87 episodes in 2 weeks 😅 I cried few times when it comes to Ruyi suffering. The true villain in this drama is not just the concubines but the Emperor him self. He is so insecure and easily influenced by news even without proper investigation. No wonder Ruyi finally gave up on him.
This is the consort that he compared to Ruyi and told her he wanted her to be like consort Linq. She was the one that got him the prostitutes si he could satisfy his lust....and told Ruyi..."she really understands me" then later sends her to kill the eunuch that took part with the boat party...this is all the director's fault....everyone would I love complained about her doings he never cared

Wei YanWan is a tragic villain; she started out as someone who wanted to climb up the ranks and take revenge on those who bullied her, and overtime she became far worse than the person she hated most.
(Hailan) Consort Yu's transformation into this tough woman is as sad as it is admirable. I hate that she had to change to protect herself, her son, and Ruyi. She was such a sweet woman. That is also the emperor's fault for letting the wives bully each other.

The material of the dress was unintentionally provided by Jia, but the dress was Wei’s idea. 4. 6th Princess (Consort Ying’s daughter) - Stillborn, also caused by Jia’s dog (Consort Ying was present during the attack and was startled). 5. Jia’s Dog - Indirect; broke its neck after the attack. 6. Noble Consort Jia - Indirect; intentional revenge for tormenting her when she was her maid (Jia’s downfall was mainly caused by her own ambitions). 7. 13th Prince Yongjing (Ruyi’s younger son) - Stillborn via breached birth, which was induced by Midwife Tian (whom Wei bribed). 8. Possibly murdered for her role in the scheme at some point. 13. Sakda Maoqian (Ling Yunche’s arranged wife) - Exiled for her role in framing Ruyi for having an affair with Ling Yunche. Maoqian didn’t really like Ling Yunche in the first place anyway, and was manipulated into thinking Ling Yunche was in love with Ruyi. Possibly murdered at some point (though some sources say that the Emperor had her killed). 14. Ling Yunche - Executed in jail. Ling Yunche was framed for having an affair with Ruyi, but even though he was proven innocent shortly afterwards, he was castrated and sent to serve in Ruyi’s palace as an eunuch (due to the Emperor’s jealousy). Hailan eventually executes him to protect Ruyi’s reputation. 15. 5th Prince Yongqi - Medically-induced death. Yongqi had a long-term leg condition which he was slowly recovering from, as long as he did not eat or come in contact with anything cold (in both physical and food terms). It is also implied that there was poison involved. 16. Hu Yunjiao (Midwife Tian’s daughter) - Committed suicide after Yongqi’s death. Yunjiao was manipulated by Wei into believing Ruyi (and by extension, Hailan) killed her mother, and played a key role in Yongqi’s death to take revenge for her mother. 17. Jinzhong (one of the Emperor’s personal assistants) - Murdered for his role in most of her schemes. 18. Lancui (one of Wei’s personal assistants) - Murdered for her role in most of her schemes. 19. Never understood why he asked Hailan for proof when he condemned Ruyi just upon the words of the concubine that Ruyi killed 5th prince and wasn't the one who ordered Ling Yunche's death. He had so many double standards especially when it came to Ruyi.

The Emporer is like an abusive husband. He's sorry after the abuse, expresses regret and love, but does it again and again! An endless pattern that squelches any fragment of love in his partner until nothing is left. In the end it takes another lifetime to recognize any wrongdoing in his own behavior. Li Chun 李纯 really masterfully player the role of Wei Yanwan. The whole character development in the series was incredible - we saw how a relatively naive and ignorant girl became the biggest villain in the story.
Even google translate does a better job if you allow it to cycle through a few translations.... wow... the worst subtitles by far are for this series...
I keep rewatching this series, because it's so damn good! Can we take a moment to acknowledge that had it not been for the Queen Mother making an entrance, the Emperor would still be suspecting Ying Fei only? Home boy was still scrutinizing her and only being angry/suspicious. What a moron. Great acting by Wallace Huo!
I just found out based on the Novel, Ruyi killed herself when meeting Wei Yanwan, so others will suspect her especially Consort Ying , Yu and emperor start to investigate and final blow attack Yanwan, I I'm glad the director decided to changed the ending like this! Especially the banner scene it's so powerful, Ruyi involved directly!
She purposely lured Concubine Ying and her daughter to come to her palace. She quickly suicided using a pair of scissors after Wei Yanwan left, making Ying Fei thought that Wei had caused Ruyi’s death directly. The rumors hence spread and made the Emperor to uncover the truth.

This drama had me ugly crying. I felt for Ruyi. I really hate the emperor, first empress, and Consort Ling. This scene is so heartbreaking. All of the names on the flags of the lives she took or destroyed was such a heavy scene. I cried basically the rest if the episode because poor Ruyi 😭 "But those who have left can never come back"......how I wish she had met a man who would cherish the gem she was and never had to live being compromised for so long. Her heart was gold and should have been treated as such.
I hate when I found that Ruyi it wasn't the girl that lyng first love it was the killer she was the one who have relations with him, at the end they show the ring that probe that the evil lady was in love with him. Ruyi sister kill him and he was inocent.
If it wasn't for Empress Dowager coming in, the emperor would have probably let her live. He gave everybody the benefit of the doubt except for Ruyi. All of the treachery that happened was his fault for not being diligent and falling for everything.
This story is a perfect example of how human greed never goes away.. and in the end the greedy person still has nothing left in their hand except for suffering and death

Ling fei's son became emperor because the king outlived most of his sons and so by the time he had to crown a prince, he only had like 2 options left lol. After the 15th prince became king, he appointed his mother, Ling Fei, who has passed away at this point, as empress to honor her.

Maoqian didn’t really like Ling Yunche in the first place anyway, and was manipulated into thinking Ling Yunche was in love with Ruyi. Possibly murdered at some point (though some sources say that the Emperor had her killed).
14. Ling Yunche
- Executed in jail. Ling Yunche was framed for having an affair with Ruyi, but even though he was proven innocent shortly afterwards, he was castrated and sent to serve in Ruyi’s palace as an eunuch (due to the Emperor’s jealousy). Hailan eventually executes him to protect Ruyi’s reputation.
15. 5th Prince Yongqi
- Medically-induced death. Yongqi had a long-term leg condition which he was slowly recovering from, as long as he did not eat or come in contact with anything cold (in both physical and food terms). It is also implied that there was poison involved.
16. Hu Yunjiao (Midwife Tian’s daughter)
- Committed suicide after Yongqi’s death. Yunjiao was manipulated by Wei into believing Ruyi (and by extension, Hailan) killed her mother, and played a key role in Yongqi’s death to take revenge for her mother.
17. Jinzhong (one of the Emperor’s personal assistants)
- Murdered for his role in most of her schemes.
18. Lancui (one of Wei’s personal assistants)
- Murdered for her role in most of her schemes.
19. Lady Ulanara (Ruyi’s mother)
- Heart attack; Wei sent people to tell her that Ruyi had fallen out of favor and was discarded.

Empress Xiaoxian was wrong to give Ruyi and Xiyue those infertility bracelets, she didn't want them to bear children before her or any at all; and what happened later? she couldn't preserve the lives of her 2 princes and they both ended up losing their lives. Karma got to her really bad. I love this TV-drama 💜
Never understood why he asked Hailan for proof when he condemned Ruyi just upon the words of the concubine that Ruyi killed 5th prince and wasn't the one who ordered Ling Yunche's death. He had so many double standards especially when it came to Ruyi.

Li Chun 李纯 really masterfully player the role of Wei Yanwan. The whole character development in the series was incredible - we saw how a relatively naive and ignorant girl became the biggest villain in the story.

I'm glad the director decided to changed the ending like this! Especially the banner scene it's so powerful, Ruyi involved directly!
She purposely lured Concubine Ying and her daughter to come to her palace. She quickly suicided using a pair of scissors after Wei Yanwan left, making Ying Fei thought that Wei had caused Ruyi’s death directly. The rumors hence spread and made the Emperor to uncover the truth.

This drama had me ugly crying. I felt for Ruyi. I really hate the emperor, first empress, and Consort Ling. This scene is so heartbreaking. All of the names on the flags of the lives she took or destroyed was such a heavy scene. I cried basically the rest if the episode because poor Ruyi 😭 "But those who have left can never come back"......how I wish she had met a man who would cherish the gem she was and never had to live being compromised for so long. Her heart was gold and should have been treated as such.

I hate when I found that Ruyi it wasn't the girl that lyng first love it was the killer she was the one who have relations with him, at the end they show the ring that probe that the evil lady was in love with him. Ruyi sister kill him and he was inocent.
If it wasn't for Empress Dowager coming in, the emperor would have probably let her live. He gave everybody the benefit of the doubt except for Ruyi. All of the treachery that happened was his fault for not being diligent and falling for everything.
从16:00宫女拿着经幡进来到卫嬿婉向经幡磕头那一整段戏，演员，配乐和导演真的配合到很好，经幡一个个打开来时真的会有那种想哭的感觉，卫嬿婉害死太多无辜的性命了

That emperor deserved all those women who ended up with sad endings... as for Ruyi she did the most honorable thing. Which was cut all links to a person whom she was so loyal to and truthfully devoted to. He most certainly didn't deserve a beautiful loving strong person Ruyi

@@rosenajar9539 this is because this show is fictional, the characters indeed do exist in history as do some major events, but it is not known if they are actually evil/good

Ling fei's son became emperor because the king outlived most of his sons and so by the time he had to crown a prince, he only had like 2 options left lol. After the 15th prince became king, he appointed his mother, Ling Fei, who has passed away at this point, as empress to honor her.
