    I only thought she died after the first round of poison the emperor gave her. I didn't expect he would give her the antidote and then poison her over and over again. Looks like he really wanted to make her suffer for her actions. After everything she's done, she got what she deserved.

      in the original novel _qianji_ was the "king of poisons", hence *Qianlong did had the intent to kill her* , though Liyu (after depositing the dying Wei Yan'wan at Yongshougong Palace) informed her that:
      1. đəąťн by _hedinghong_ (red arsenic) was too kind, quick, & painless
      2. Jiang Yubin tinkered with the herbal formulation, ensuring an even more slow and painful фýıņĝ than the usual
      also the downfall happened after the 9-year timeskip, coinciding on the eve of Wei Yan'wan's 50th birthday

    These drama really had a divorced couple portrayed well. In the end, Ruyi let everything go and decided to guard the love and memories she once had with the emperor. You can see never a day did the emperor feel happy ever since Ruyi cut her hair, and he still genuinely care about her, though he still hurt her. (eg. A maid once mentioned that he would set her free if she admitted her fault first, how he still called her ‘Ruyi’ most of the time, and how agonised he was when he found she covered her sickness and prevented him from fetching doctors etc) Like once consort Rong and the dowager said, the more you hurt, the more you did, the more you realised how much you thought(not care) about her. Just like a divorced couple who still love each other but can never be together anymore.

      Really ironic. This consort was one of the most loved one in so many Chinese period dramas. All dramas were the opposite of this drama. Say, the second empress was always a bitch until this drama.

    • @NouveauHomesPH
      @NouveauHomesPH Před 3 lety +52

      @@user-td2jl9gv5v its actually nice to see a different point of view once in a while. Because history is written by the victors so we cannot deny the fact that the history we know today has been obscenely edited by the so called historians. So having this second empress as a good person is a unique way to view the happenings during their time. Im not saying this version of history is correct or the formal history is wrong but it's just a refreshing thing to watch and analyze why people did what they did. And what they were thinking.

    • @user-td2jl9gv5v
      @user-td2jl9gv5v Před 3 lety +28

      Mmm, I guess you are right. And I wonder... Was this drama on Netflix or something?
      Anyway , dear friends from far away, the reason the second empress was a bitch in most Chinese dramas other than this one...... because Chinese thought that the emperor must be right always. You can search all these characters' actual titles and tombs in Chinese wikipedia. And the second empress died only months after her fall from the grace, and was buried in a corner of the ground of tomb of a less favored consort (who was the foster mother of the first prince). See? She couldn't have her own tomb. Her funeral was carried with lower grade materials which were fit for a mere concubine. Her son couldn't get any princely titles till his early death. The emperor really showed to the world he disliked her. So all dramas portrayed her as a bitch. And now this drama and the novel which it was based on, painted her as a good woman, so the emperor had to be a bad & foolish person AND the truth about her funeral and tomb had to be erased. Well, anyway Chairman Xi jin ping hated this drama (because of the way to treat the emperor in a bad light) so they won't be able to make a drama like this one ever again. Actually Chinese dramas will be boring from now on due to Chinese government's censorship which can ban any dramas or films without explaining any reasons.

      Yanxi's ending is more relative to Ling's ending. She ruled the harem. She knew that she'll not live a long life. poison was discovered in her body. its a debate whether she's poisoned or not. but considering the misinformation at that time, it's more likely she used the poison as a medecine, (people at that time called some poison as elixir for immortality). a factor of her death might be the death or her daugter's who were ship-off as a consort for alliances.

      And the thing is, it was WIDELY unpopular making Wei an Empress given she was already dead at that point, and the main question it after watching both stories: If the emperor had 7 or 8 kids with her, why didn't he make her empress while she was alive? There have been kings that had 3 or 4 empresses in the past so this wouldn't make a big difference in a way. Yanxi just left a lot of unanswered questions for me and to be honest I think it needed a couple more episodes to explain the fine details a bit. Maybe that's why Ruyi was 86 while her predecessor only had 76 episodes. They knew they needed extra episodes.
