@@MissKyliee I noticed Zelda makes different noises when she does things (like picking up and throwing the rock). I suppose we'll learn who is the voice actress later but I hope she had fun doing all these cute sounds for Zelda.
Not only is it playable Zelda, but they actually thought about her character/powers and made a game specifically around that.
They could have just made a normal LoZ game and gave Zelda all Link's abilities, but they didn't. Because she has her OWN powers! I LOVE the creativity and effort!
Right? They put so much care around how she'd be played and it makes the gameplay really unique. Love it :)

And I feel like this is the perfect way to introduce the freeform gameplay they introduced in BotW and TotK. Zelda "spinoffs" could use this idea of gameplay and the "traditional" top down LoZ games continue with Link as protagonist. We all win!

Haven't seen anyone mentioning it yet in the comments here, so just a cute little detail...... Zelda wears Link's hood during the whole game - the one he threw off before his fight with Ganon at the beginning. It's so freaking cute!!!

They already sold me on Zelda being the main character. The fact that you can spawn enemies as your minions is the icing on the cake.

I remember when I first played the Legend of Zelda back in the day. For years I thought Zelda was Links name since it was called the Legend of Zelda. It's interesting to see a game where she actually plays the main character for once

I love this, but I'd also like a game where you could switch between Zelda and Link, depending on each having vital skillsets for different situations. There are so many different concepts and gameplay styles I'd love for them to explore in a Zelda title

This makes the Links Awakening remake feel like it was basically just an excuse for them to make and test this engine because the art style suddenly makes a LOT more sense

I'm so stoked :) Zelda Echoes of Wisdom is finally a Zelda game with Zelda as the main, playable protagonist I've waited years for and thought I would never see this day - I hoped Zelda would be playable in TOTK (she played a huge role - But wasn't playable). This is exciting and I think her "Tri" buddy and the echo rod will make this game fun, creative, but at the same time challenging and force you to think outside the box like all Zelda's typically do - ZeldaMaster's reaction was over the moon for this game. They had Zelda playable for just a bit in Spirit Tracks on 3DS where she assisted Link in a dungeon. This and Metroid Prime 4 are definitely getting pre-ordered ASAP LOL
It's felt like they've been toying with but backing away from ideas for non-Link gameplay for so long now.
I mean, if the franchise were any sort of JRPG type of series then characters like TotK's sages or BotW's champions or SS's Knight Academy students or TP's Resistance members all would've been party members joining you on your journey, but the Zelda games haven't been that type of series and Nintendo has held back and kept them as sidelined support characters. This even goes back to MM as well with the three spirits who enable the three transformation masks featured throughout the game. Those could've been written in as party members but the "lone hero" concept made skinsuits out of them instead to keep the focus on Link. And many have fantasized about what could have been if OoT Zelda's time as Sheik could have been playable. Some might try to imagine what a side story from TotK Zelda's perspective could've been like as well. In both cases, Zelda's exploits are kept offscreen and recapped in cutscenes / dialogue. And one of the Oracles games (Ages, I think?) had that character Ralph who was running around on his own adventure offscreen somewhere the whole time we were running around but it's unclear (or I just forget any specifics that got mentioned) what he was ever accomplishing on his side of things. TWW had a couple characters that were temporary companions for just one dungeon each using that command song to swap control to them. Zelda in ST was a kinda similar concept whenever there was a Phantom in a dungeon for her spirit to possess, but then those moments are the kind of gameplay you'd expect from those hulking tin cans (not the kind of gameplay you'd imagine from a Zelda)... so does it really count?
It could be good for the series that they're taking a chance here to take a step back and imagine how a Zelda would have to get by in a leading role. Conceptually we've got this loose idea in the franchise that courage, wisdom, and power are these three different strategies for solving problems / overcoming obstacles. They aren't mutually exclusive of course. Some Links have dabbled in what probably ought to be considered wisdom and power tactics (one way of looking at power could be the concept of "might makes right", it's what had the Bulbins in TP acting as muscle for Zant/Ganon and getting out of Link's way when he proved himself to them in combat against their king, and it's also the concept that endears Link to the Gorons in TP after some iron boots assisted trial by sumo as well) instead of sticking with something that could be called courage and only courage, and Ganon has sometimes tried a bit of strategy / mind games to outmaneuver opponents instead of always being the "every hammer is a key" sort of problem solver (although I think that was Koume and Kotake masterminding his deceptions for him in the events of OoT?), and there's also that idea that somebody needs to value all three approaches in balance with each other to earn a wish from the full power of the Triforce. But still, we've had the entire history of the series so far built primarily around just one side of that trio. Fleshing out the distinctions between the three approaches better could lead to new ideas later on in other Zelda games after this. Who knows, perhaps in the future they might have the nerve to conceive of a game where the player can swap between three heroes and each brings their own unique twist to the gameplay, or more heroes than that with them sorted into three categories. Each with their own signature weapon and their own set of tools to aid them. Which types of moves are most distinctly what the courage style should value most? Which are wisdom? Which are power? Distinguish those better and that can become the basis for "if we put characters like Link, Zelda, and a champions/sages type of cast together as equals in the spotlight, what can they each be able to do (and not be able to do) to really set them all apart from each other in terms of gameplay? What gets shared only between members of the same side of the triad? What gets shared between the whole crew? Which parts are truly unique to each character on their own?"
@@MuljoStpho A Link and Zelda cooperative game (kind of like Peter Parker and Miles Morales in the Spider-Man franchise) would be pretty cool in Breath of the Wild/Tears of Kingdom world. You would have to play as Link or Zelda for specific missions or choose and swap out the characters in order to or better solve a dungeon, boss, enemy, puzzle etc....
throughout the game. Lots of potential - Zelda is so popular as a character I'm surprised it took so long. Mario has had Luigi forever now.
It's about time Zelda gets to save Link for a change.
I have wanted to play as Zelda since OOT, but her with her Shiek powers and abilities. This is still cool but was hoping for a ninja/knight Zelda than a puzzle solver/summoner Zelda. Just a full on role reversal, Ganon after capturing Zelda so many times and his plans failing, traps Link instead and Zelda has to play the traditional role and gameplay. Maybe someday but again this is still cool and welome.

Really? Why? I most likely won't play it. It doesn't seem fun. You can't just change the rules of a zelda and expect it to be fun.

Well it is called the Legend of Zelda so to have at least one game starring her instead of Link makes sense.
The title legend of Zelda only applies to the first two games as they're about the actual legend of Zelda. The Zelda in the title is the sleeping one in Zelda 2, she's the original Zelda. The legend may focus on her, but Link is the hero in the legend. The series just kept that title as it grew, that's why games like Awakening and Majora may say legend of Zelda, even though she has nothing to do with them, they have to do with Link, because this is his series, not Zelda's. The title doesn't mean she should be the main character or the hero. By making a Zelda the hero, you rob Link of his purpose, and thus rob the series of its identity.
Couldn't agree more! There's only 29 Zelda games where Link is the hero. This one DEFINTELY robs Link of his purpose!
