Japan works to preserve ancient tradition

Public baths have been the center of city life in Japan for centuries. But since 2006, hundreds of such baths have closed. Some are working to preserve the ancient tradition, which they say allows for socializing and relaxation.

I've had the pleasure of bathing at a public bath house in Japan during one of my visits. It was one of the most pleasant experiences in my life: getting naked in a room full of strangers. I was shy at first, but when I realized that nobody cares that I was naked because we're all naked, it was so liberating.
