- The Nike spikes have been a huge topic of discussion since their release with crazy fast times being run all over the globe. I was lucky to get my hands on a pair of the Nike ZoomX Dragonfly and the Nike Air Zoom Victory, the premium distance spikes being worn by many athletes, even those not affiliated with Nike. Had fun making this and trying to convey my thoughts on the two different spikes, and am looking forward to improving in future review videos.
Definitely leave some comments with your thoughts on the video and your experience with these spikes! Thanks for watching!
Victory definitely more responsive and faster. I wonder what the Maxfly is like.
Completely agreed! I also am curious about the Maxfly since it looks so similar to the victory. I imagine the pebax plate outsole that continues to the heel gives that added rigidity/response whereas the plate on the victory is only in the forefoot. Just my thought.
One of my athletes got his hands on the maxfly! He competes from 55 to 200. I'll pass on any insights he has after use!
is this math true. For an high end athlete the maxfly will give you an improvement of 0.2 over 60-100m? And what is the benefit of no socks?
I actually don’t know! I’ve read a bunch of different data about the percent improvement from the mechanical advances. As far as no socks, it’s a personal comfort choice. I feel more connected to the shoe and track when I don’t wear them. I did wear socks in spikes during high school, and stopped in college. Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for checking out the video!
Which do you recommend for the 1600? Or for an 800, 1600, 3200 athlete? Thanks!
If you're ranging up to the 3200, I PERSONALLY would lean toward the Dragonfly. I think it races well at all of those distances. The Victory feels best for 800/1600 but that is where preference comes in. If you find that you are more of a midfoot striker, I'd go Dragonfly. If you tend to forefoot strike and be more forward, you may find the Victory to suit your style better. I hope that all makes sense!
I have the dragonflys, and Im thinking about getting the victories to race 800's and miles in. Do you think I should purchase them or just use the dragonflys instead?
I'd say if you're comfortable and really like the dragonflys then it's probably not worth the extra $180. The dragonflys have more utility than the victory, but if you are finding the dragonflys aren't aggressive enough for you in the 800 and mile then it could be something to look into! Hope this helps!
Dragonfly vs avanti lets gooo
I’m working on getting a pair! I’m really curious how they stack up as well. Also hoping to do Takumi Sen 8 vs Streakfly!
I’m running the 800 and 1600 (focusing 1600) this upcoming spring season. I’ve also been told I have wide feet. Would you recommend either of these shoes or look for a completely different one bc of my foot shape?
This is a great question! I think that either of these shoes can work for a wider foot. Of course if you have a chance to try them on, I'd definitely see which one feels better on foot since the uppers are very different. I haven't had a chance to check competitor offerings yet, but I've found that in a lot of the road offerings the uppers and fit seem relatively comparable amongst brands (with Brooks being the brand I am familiar with the least). I measured my foot, and from the inside of my big toe to outside of pinky toe is roughly 10 inches, and then 9 inches in the center of my foot, and I don't have any fit issues! I hope this helps!
@@vinmeliarunningclub7638 thank you very helpful advice
Would the air zoom victory be good for a 400m - 800m runner? what are your thoughts? and a couple of 200s and 4x1s throughout the season*
I definitely think its a great option as a 400-800 runner. If you find that 200’s and the 4x100 are only sometimes, you can get away with using them for those events. If you find that 200’s and down are more common, I have seen people utilize the maxfly in events up to the 800 for the stiff plate in shorter races. If you are primarily a 400/800 athlete though, definitely think victory is a great choice! Hope this helps! Thanks for checking out the video!
@@vinmeliarunningclub7638If used frequently in the 400 meter race, will the material deteriorate?
Great video btw
Im a size 9.5 in regular running shoes.what size should I get the victory’s
The victorys run true to size, so you should be able to go same size. As a reference, my trainers (mostly hoka shoes) I wear a 9.5 and a 9.5 fits me in Nike, although I personally go a half size up since I like a tiny bit of toe room. Hope this helps!
I’ve been looking to buy new spikes for the upcoming indoor track season. Does the victory have a plastic sole? I think plastic spikes are banned in my area for indoor due to running on gym floors. I haven’t been able to find the info anywhere. Are you able to tell if the victory can handle a tight turn? The shortest track I run on is around 133m…
The victory does have a plastic plate in the front, so I’d guess they wouldn’t be allowed or effective on the gym floors. As far as handling tight turns, I definitely felt more comfortable in the dragonfly on turns for the 400m outdoor track as the air pods in the victory created a disconnect from the track feel+some instability. I would consider the events you are doing and base it on that as well. Personally, I wouldn’t like the victory for fast tight turns, but they are undoubtedly a fast spike. A 133m track is wild! Hope this helps, and good luck this season!!
This is pretty late but I was wondering which spike I should get if I’m running the 1k and the mile this coming indoor season. I heard that the victory’s are not very durable and the zoomx foam would separate from the bottom plate. Is this true?
Thanks for watching! The victory might prove to be marginally faster over those distances, but the durability of the dragonfly is definitely better. I’ve also seen others have issues with the midsole/outsole on the victory. I definitely lean dragonfly personally, and think it ends up being more bang for your buck over time. I’ve put almost 15 miles into my dragonfly between race efforts and some workouts and there are no issues. Hope this helps, and best of luck this season!!!
Actually depents on you.
I personally like the Victoriy's speacially on the 1500m even up to the 10.000m I had no durability issues in this shoe but I am aswell really lean (5'10, and 117-118 lbs)
Plus I fore- midfoot strike with a smooth stride.
If you heel strike DO NOT go for the victories
@@robinbauer1975 thanks for sharing your experience! I’m 5’9” 155-160 in racing shape, so build absolutely factors in. That’s awesome how they work for you up to 10k! The victorys would personally beat me up over that distance!
Las tengo , y sí es totalmente cierto. En ambas zapatillas ( izquierda y derecha ) se desprende un poco la parte central de la placa de plebax del zoom x , no mucho pero sí. No me duraron más de 3 meses.
sorry for that late comment i run 800-1600m in racing which will be more suited for the victories, but which would be better for training, will the victories be comfortable and durable enough to running multiple reps/sets?
Thanks for watching! As far as durability goes, I think the dragonfly comes out on top since the midsole is less busy. Depending on the volume you’re doing in training with the spikes on would be a determining factor. The victorys will definitely be comfortable for workouts as they do offer a ton of tech that doesn’t make it as pounding on the legs as traditional spikes. If you plan on racing in them, I’d say go with the victorys and maybe consider some lightweight trainers that you can supplement in training so you aren’t having to use the victorys as often. I hope that all makes sense! If you have more questions, let me know! Hope this helps!
Would you say the Dragonfly's have some sort of cushion or do they feel "hard?"
Thanks for watching the video! The dragonflys definitely have a softer/bouncy ride, especially conpared to the matumbo line they replaced. Certainly feel supported when running/racing in them, much less pounding on the legs compared to previous generations of spikes. Hope this helps!
@@vinmeliarunningclub7638 Thanks for the quick reply and info.
How is the durability with the Air Zoom Vics.? I hear they have a problem with the airbag going flat. My HS son runs the 400 and indoor 300. i would like to get him the Vics but i 'm worried about durability
So far in my experience I haven’t had issues. They definitely are built for performance, so limiting their use to races and race prep are imperative in my opinion. I’ve read up about some different issues that have come up with the separation of foam, the air pods, etc, and many said Nike has been pretty good about customer service with these problems. I am very careful with them for sure. As another recommendation, if he is doing 400-300 and shorter events, I’d consider the Nike Maxfly. Very similar, but made for 100-400. Hope this helps!
You wear a size 10 or whatever for your air zoom victories, but what size is your foot on an everyday shoe? I’m really worried about buying this shoe and it being too big because of its light build.
In my trainers I wear a 9.5, and this is in Hoka, New Balance, Saucony, Adidas (I do not wear Nike trainers). I wear a 10 in Nike BUT it does leave a small amount of room for my toes that I prefer in their spikes. I would fit into a 9.5 for the Nike spikes, but prefer the fit in the 10. It’s tough to find them in stores to try on, but if you were to order and want to exchange for a different size, I can’t imagine that being an issue! Hope this helps! If you want me to clarify anything or speak further, just let me know!
@@vinmeliarunningclub7638 okay thank you
I’m wanting a good spike for track season. I run the mile and two mile (focus on the two mile), and I was thinking of getting the dragonfly. Is that what you suggest?
I definitely think the dragonfly will fit your needs best given your focus on the two mile! They are worth it. Thanks for watching, and if you do get them feel free to check back in and let me know how they workout for you!
Between the two, which one would you recommend for a sprinter
Sorry for not replying sooner! If you are a sprinter, so I would assume 55 up 400, I'd go for the maxfly if that is possible. The full length plate outsole is going to give you the rigidity needed for those races that the victory does not. They are the same cost as the victory as well! Hope this helps!
@@vinmeliarunningclub7638 it does help thanks, so would the dragonfly’s be more mid distance spikes rather than sprinting because those are the ones that I’m considering to buy
@@ZeRohn.Ent. Between the victory and the dragonfly, the victory is more mid-distance specific (400-1600 ideally) while the dragonfly would go from 800 up to 5k/10k being more for distance.
Is true that in Air Zoom Victory broke air zoom quickly??
Thanks for watching the video! I haven’t had any issues with the zoom pods, and it seems that is very infrequent that a pod would “pop” or break. I haven’t put a lot of miles into them, so I can’t say for sure how the mid/outsole will hold up over a longer time just yet. I hope that answers your question!
Would you recommend it fir CrossFit?
I wouldn't use these for crossfit. If you like nike products though, the metcon are a great crossfit shoe that they make! Hope this helps!
Between the two shoes which one would you recommend for 800m?
Thanks for watching the video! Speed wise, the Air Zoom Victory is going a to really shine in the 800 with the air pods and aggressive plate combo. That would definitely be my recommendation. I wouldn't say that the Dragonfly shouldn't be used for the 800, but the Air Zoom Victory would be more appropriate for the 800. I hope that makes sense!
I would recommend the air zoom victory but if you do many events like mile, 2 mile, 800, and 4x400 I would I choose the dragonfly because I’ve done all four events in the dragonfly and they did great because they’re fast but comfy at the same time.
Do you think you could use the dragonfly for cross?
Thanks for watching the video! I think these can be a solid option for cross, similar to how the matumbos also found a place in cross, with the appropriate spike size of course. They have a secure fit/lockdown and feel stable even with the thicker midsole. Hope this helps!
@@vinmeliarunningclub7638 Thank you this helped a lot and so did your review.
By cross you mean crossfit right?
@@technicalshiva1 no, cross is just short for cross country
Bro, there is NO hype at all whatsoever....there is new WRs and Olympic records made in these shoes!!!! You haven't got a f*cking clue what a hype is......
Thanks for watching!
what
what are you talking about baud
You have clearly not seen BTC and how many of their runners have broken records
