Can we Fix It? Victa Silver Streak 2 Stroke Alloy Bodied Lawn Mower Restoration! Will it Start?

I picked up this beautiful VICTA Silver Streak 2 Stroke Alloy Bodied Lawnmower from Marketplace, where the previous owner was more concerned about telling me everything that was wrong with it! Whilst it had a few issues and generally was looking really rough and tired, it was clearly an alloy bodied Victa and I can't myself but to purchase it, load it into the boot and take it home! Question is, what is actually wrong with it, will it start and can we fix it?
If anybody is interested in the pliers / wrench that I use in this video to remove and tighten the decompressor, they are Knipex Pliers / Wrench and are IMHO simply awesome. It's like you have the flexibility of multi-grip pliers but the strength and precision of a spanner (or socket) in one tool. Here is a link to them: amzn.to/3IXaf4S
    I trust you enjoy!

That is a nice old mower , I know that this type of mower cut beautifully and are dependable with little servicing . Where I am in Canada nobody wants these mowers , I have had 3 Lawn boys which are also two stroke such a shame I think .

Where was CZcams when I was a boy?!!! Great work. I really enjoyed your no nonsense explanations. I have about 8 old Victa 2-strokes. When I am mowing, I don't have time for repairs. I just pick another and go agsin. Tell me - one of my 1970s Victa has really lost it's revs over the past few weeks. What would you think was the most logical cause of this?
    Air filter?
    Spark plug?
    Carbon deposits?
    Blocked carby ports or jets?
    Rings?
Thanks again for your podcasts. You're a lost breed in this mad world of throw away Chondas and battery mowera. Gimme my dear old Dad's late 1950s catcherless ungoverned Victa anyday! I'm now 69. My Dad had me mowing at 6 years of age. I have seen and used just about every model Victa. Turns grass into lawn. Gee I miss them.

Hi Mate, I would start with the easy things from your list; new spark plug, air filter and then work my way through the rest! If all else fails I have a video coming out in a couple of weeks on how to swap in a different Governor spring to bring the RPMs up, so stay tuned for that one! Cheers Drew

Subbed. Good camera work. I highly recommend getting a sturdy table and air compressor. It'll make your repairs a whole lot easier. Carby spray is a rip off. Soak the jet in saved old stale fuel then a few blasts off air. Good on ya for keeping what's left of our Aussie made gear alive. Bloody China stuff sucks ass. Today I saved a 1978 Victa with Briggs...45 years old and still running. Vid just uploaded. Cheers. Rodney. Gold Coast

Awww! I wanted to hear it run after the deco valve was fitted!
They're a nice model the Silver Streak.
I have the first powertorque Mustang which is identical except in colour. Green base, white engine cover and green catcher.
Also have the previous Silver Streak. Same base, slightly different shape catcher and full crank side pull motor like the powerplus you found earlier. Sexy looking mowers.

Hi Mate, and thanks for the feedback. If you have a look at this playlist there are a few more general VICTA Resto videos: czcams.com/play/PLor5qdyoV_nRbXGXoicf4BN42o4z-TgvE.html&si=vhBnopzXcToZfXxG Sometimes I take the blades off and use my bench grinder, but to be honest most of the time I just run my cordless angle grinder along the front of the blade. Hi Gary, thanks for support mate. There is so much waste out there and I genuinely believe many of these electric battery devices will be in landfill after a couple of years, as opposed to these VICTAs which just go and go for decades! Cheers Drew

@@DrewFixIt I think they will too. The batteries are very expensive as well. Also these plastic electric machines are not made to be serviced or repaired. Once the machine fails it will be kerb side hard rubbish

Hey drew cool vid mate geez it came up a treat. Mate how do you go about cleaning the fuel tank? And ive noticed you only ever seem to do a basic front carny clean on these 2 syrokes do you ever pull it all apart and mess with the tricky side? Thanks for the info youve taught me heaps im glad i didcovered your content

    • @DrewFixIt
      @DrewFixIt  Před měsícem +1

Thanks mate, yes I do pull the entire Carby appart if I need to. The reality is that most of the time I can get away with a front clean and that way I just move onto the next mower with a minimum amount of effort and fuss! I should do a complete Victa Carby rebuild on the Channel at some stage as it’s actually not that hard! Is this something that you would be interested in? Cheers Drew

Hi Mate, the absolute economy model did not have a decompressor valve. They are just a little harder to pull the starter rope, but I honestly don’t mind them at all and because they don’t have the decompressor valve it’s one less thing to fail / fix! Cheers Drew

Would be a very very very very very rare part, doubt you will be able to find one, ask collectors, mower stores, victa customer service might know of a part number.
