    “An ugly little girl and a sad fool, and maester makes three . . . now there is a tale to make men weep.” This line from the ACOK - Prologue could also mean that these three people will sacrifice their lives for Stannis, but like Cressens their sacrifice would be in vain.
    And that is sad…

    I can see Selyse sacrificing herself. She's a true believer. She'd die for the cause. Perhaps also she feels that she has failed Stannis by having only one living child, and an unhealthy girl child at that.

    15:32 also noticed something creepy about Mel, Benerro and Moqorro: they believe that Azor Ahai will bring about a summer without end, essentially the opposite of the Long Night. Obviously the best thing for Planetos would be to have regular seasons back, so I'm not sure I can vibe with the Rhllorists on that front (obviously they're much worse than just that, but still).

    A Great Video as always. GRRM said before it gets better it will get worse. And speaking in terms of the whole Story, I think it means, Euron, Dany and Cersei will be in Power. And they all will mirror Stannis who sacrificed all in vain for a Prophecy. These 3 will sacrifice everything in Vain for Power. I mean he has his preferred Themes and types and patterns. Mirroring one major Event a dozen Times in different Ways with different outcomes is definitively one of them.

    Yes, all the circumstantial evidence points to the poison coming from the hairnet. But in the scene itself it seems like the poison could've came from the pie. Or to be more precise, from the cream topping the server scoops on top of the slice of pie just before handing it to Tyrion. There's more to it, but that's the general idea, plus the hairnet is a pretty convoluted way of delivering the murder weapon so that gets people looking for alternatives explations
    I'm not saying this is what I think, I was just trying to explain the basic idea & why people question it to begin with
    But great video! I love revisiting things like Patches' jingles & trying to decipher the as of yet unexplained ones : )

    @KarlKarsnark Před 6 měsíci +6

    χαῖρε! I like the fancy new intro. I know GRRM doesn't care about "real science", and you know this already, but adding salt to water would actually lower the freezing point making it melt more easily(like salting icy roads in Winter/colligative properties), which seems a bit backwards for a Wall that needs to stay frozen as much as possible. It would have to use "Sea Water", I suppose, which seems tricky too.
    The language about the "Wall weeping" is no accident though. "Weeping" can simply mean "melting slowly"/"oozing" in English along with meaning to "cry", so GRRM used it very intentionally used to imply that the Wall is "alive and emoting" in some way.
    The "Nennymoans" are almost surely "(sea) Anemones", which are an animal, but named after an IRL flower also called "Anemones" (Greek: "wind flower"/"daughter of the wind") and can come in "deep blue", like the Sea, and many other colors . The "arms"/stalks of the Sea Anemone do look a bit like "snakes" and they can have a mild sting (i.e. poisoned/stinging serpent hair). More great GRRMy wordplay.
    IRL clown fish live and hide in Anemones for protection, and Patchface can be thought of as a bit of a "clowning fish" too, I suppose.
    Keep up the great work. Cheers & Tschuss!

    • @CompanyOfTheCat
      @CompanyOfTheCat  Před 6 měsíci +3

      First, as you also said he doesn't follow science that faithfully, but also the temperature difference isn't that big and we are talking about arctic conditions. Salt is 100% involved, we have salt in very weird and specific places and the wall stops at sea, so the Others do not like salt from what I understand and the bit about Bran tasting salty water for me confirmed it tbh. Plus, underneath Leaf talks about a deep dark ocean and we have no idea how deep the wall goes and the magic is in the bottom of it, according to the myths.

    The vision Stannis sees in the flames is the battle at the Fist of the First Men, not at the Wall. The biggest clue is the ring of fire. This is the ring of torches surrounding their camp at the top of the Fist. Shapes moving in the snow is the wights or even the Others themselves. If i remember correctly it was happening around the same time so he might have even been watching it in real time or just before it happened.

She was dead for a day and night before they stripped her naked and threw her body in the river." that last part is important, her soul wasn't preserve with neither salt or fire for more then a day before being dumped in the river were there is not salt either.

      Beric was also found on the river, but from what I understand Cat and Beric are/were dead dead, like dead, and were brought back with magic partially and as wights. Aeron, Patch, and Bran were brought back, but their bodies still function as human bodies. Sleep, eat, grow, have blood circulation, etc.

    @yggdrasil2 Před 6 měsíci +2

    Wow, really interesting interpretations here! I've never seen anyone break down Patchface's chants to this level but I think a lot of it makes perfect sense.
    I can give some sort of clarification on the alternative explanation for the Purple Wedding, particularly the one that I think Preston Jacobs came up with:
    The idea is basically that a servant in Littlefinger's service put the strangler gem on top of Tyrion's pie slice and then covered it with cream, in which it dissolved. This is the pie that is later eaten by Joffrey.
    LF's motivation for wanting Tyrion dead is partly as revenge for all the dick moves he pulled on him during his tenure as hand, partly since Tyrion just replaced him as Master of Coin and is one of few nobles intelligent enough to figure out that LF has been cooking the book for years, and last but not least because his death would widow Sansa and make her eligable for marriage.
    That last point does make a lot of sense, since the plans he mentions to Sansa almost all involve her marrying someone else, which would be illegal and create some very complicated succession disputes.
    You could argue that that same thing would be achieved by simply killing Joffrey and blaming Tyrion so he'd get executed, however the circumstances that makes Tyrion the main suspect in the moment are so specific that I don't think Bloodraven himself could manufacture them, let alone LF.
    And following the logic of a poisoned pie or cream potentially killing more people than intended, Margaery was actually drinking from the same wine chalice as Joffrey!
    Another issue I have your assessment is that while LF and co all thinks that getting Joffrey out of the way and ruling through Tommen is a good idea, LF left the capital long before Tommen ascended the Iron Throne, so what good will it do him now?
    Granted, even if true, this theory shares the same main flaw as the official explanation provided by LF: why rest your entire regicide conspiracy on a teenager blindly following the fashion advice of a drunk fool, while entrusting her, the most guarded hostage in the Red Keep, with the murder weapon, when there were plenty of opportunities to kill Joffrey beforehand?
    It might just be that GRRM likes to keep his mysteries somewhat vague and open even when they're explained and honestly that's part of what makes the story so cool to think about! (Because I still think letting LF, the biggest liar in ASOIAF explain the mystery in such a suspicious way, was to give The Purple Wedding some ambiguity.)
    Sorry for this long, only tangentially related comment lol
    EDIT Though it's interesting how the pairing of Sansa and Dontis makes two sad girl/sad fool combos in the story.

    • @CompanyOfTheCat
      @CompanyOfTheCat  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I don't really know who came up with the theory/theories because I have seen alternations, but always looked like theorizing for the sake of it to me.
      The lemon cream is cream. It is much thicker so if they didn't have a completely different bowl for the one they served at Tyrion (which is highly suspicious if that was the case, people would have noticed) more people would have died, since Tyrion was not sitting at the end of the table and the dishes are served from the kings seat down. If it was in the pie the poison would have needed to be in the entire crust or stuffing not just in the two bites Joffrey took and all the servings, cream included, were all from communal dishes.
      If the crystals were in the cream then they put it in the spoon or plate of his and that would be a big problem, bc there is no freaking way it would be dissolved as quickly. The whole theory is very convoluted for various reasons IMO.
      The thing with the poison seems very straightforward to me. LF knew Olenna would not want Joffrey to marry her granddaughter, thus he informed her while away with the Tyrells. Margery was also aware of his very very bad reputation, Sansa made sure of it. It is obvious LF had the plan of removing Joffrey (he had also said Ned the same) and involved the Tyrells making sure that he would have a scapegoat. If something went wrong he could blame them, and the Tyrells said yes, bc easily could have blamed Sansa and Tyrion, bc they would be the ones with the poison.
      The poison was in the hairnet. Dontos was Littlefingers man. Littlefinger at that time is with the Tyrells negotiating the alliance and taking longer than he should. It was Olenna who took the strangler from Sansa’s hairnet, and it was Margery herself who put it in the wine. She was the only one who could ensure Joff died and she didn’t accidentally get poisoned, since yes, they drank from the same chalice.
      I also wrote a freaking essay 😂
      Glad you liked the video, thanks for watching❤️

      @@CompanyOfTheCat Honestly I'm still not totally convinced, especially since I presented a way of poisoning one pie slice without contaminating everything and I do not understand why LF would go through all of this trouble or why he created this daisy chain of removing himself from the poison to the fourth degree were such an insane amount of things could have gotten wrong.

      @@yggdrasil2 Oh, no worries about this.
      It still, to me, sounds way more convoluted 😂
      The actual plan is actually great and it isn't as complex as the fandom makes it out to be. Most theories if not all, that are vastly different from what we know and actually saw (bc we see how they serve stuff, we see, how the poison works in another book, etc) happening, sound way more complex and convoluted for no reason at all, than the plan they explained.
      It sounds like theorizing for the sake of theorizing because we need something to talk about, idk😂

    The fool leading marching into the sea and out again riding seahorses and mermaids announcing their coming with seashells is probably Hosteen and Big Walder Frey marching with a host of Frey and Manderly forces. Hosteen is called stupid several times and could fit the fool part. They will be marching onto a frozen lake probably with horses filled with holes for fishing, making it weak ice. The Manderlys will betray the Freys and announce their coming with horns. There could be Ironborn too, often represented by the sea. Asha is there too after all.
