- Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic is a great song! I can’t read that without hearing the chorus in my brain and feeling a little happier. I covered two other songs by The Police as soon as I could possibly manage a version when I first started playing drums because I grew up listening to Zenyatta Mondatta on repeat. Every Little Thing is actually from Ghost in the Machine along with some other classics. I have little doubt I will revisit Stewart Copeland and The Police again in the future as well.
I talk briefly about what makes Stewart such an interesting drummer for me but it’s a simplified explanation. I say he pushes or plays in front but he actually does it in a way that can’t really just be called rushing. Like many great drummers, he’s able to isolate the groove he plays with his hand from the feel he has with his feet. He keeps everything in the pocket with his kick while he provides so much excitement and energy with where he puts his snare and fills.
That’s without even getting into the fact that his playing style is so distinct and recognizable that IMO, he’s one of a very short list of drummers that are as responsible for their bands overall sound as the singer or songwriters. I learn something every time I sit down to play along with Stewart Copeland and it’s always a blast to decipher his intricate hat work and signature writing. Yep, I’m a fan :) If you want a laugh, you might look up my first two attempts at The Police on Roxanne and So Lonely. I think I was 10 and 12 years old at the time.
I’m 15 years old and I want to be a professional musician when I grow up. I try to play lots of instruments but the one that I feel most at home on is a drum set. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend some of my time trying to learn the magic of songwriting. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 4 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing it, keep loving music and keep getting better.

Such a surprise, to hear the Drummer talk about what she was doing; and why !! AND, for her to make mention of Stuart's snare - Because it makes an incredible difference in the way sound is produced.
Amazing Cymbal work...Very impressed !!
Every Little Beat She Does Is Magic - amazing!
This is awesome. I'm an old drummer, and I studied some of the same drummers you have, particularly Bonham, Peart and Moon. And then I heard Outlandos in a pair of Koss cans around 40 years ago. I remember thinking 'This changes everything'. Steely Dan's Aja changed a lot as well, but there are at least 4 world-class, hall-of-fame drummers on that record. They were all geniuses. Stewart was only one, but he moved the ball almost as far. From the bottom of all drummers' hearts, thank you for keeping great, acoustic, organic drumming alive.
4:15 40 years later & that specific drum fill still rocks my world
Yeah I got ya. Her snare sound wasn't that thrilling though.
me to, love that fill. This whole song is one of my favourites of all time. I pretty sure its the 1st song I ever liked when I was a small kid. im learing it on guitar ATM. the chord progression is really inspiring.
Absolutely agree
Great job and great choice, young lady! Stewart Copeland is one of the finest time keepers to ever sit behind a trap set. Keep the covers coming!
Thank you - I learn something every time I try to learn one of his parts.
That transition into the second verse....smooth like butter
nooooice (*_*(
Who knew that a guitar a bass and drums would become one of the greatest band ever
You smile every time you nail a fill. Your love for percussions bursts through in your style. Great job, Mia!!
..sometimes I laugh when I play :) By the time I've learned a song, it's been calmed down to a smile. Thanks!!
You definitely look happy while you are playing this. The stick twirl is a nice touch. The smile as always is great.
:) this one got to be a lot of fun once I started getting comfortable. He's got such a unique approach.
@@miamorrismusic Like your version. Here is a 14-year old's cover, czcams.com/video/yfAE6_8DVyI/video.html hope you like
@@miamorrismusic def has a different approach , the beauty of stewart
I don’t always watch drum covers but when I do, I watch Mia.
Twirling the stick with that sassy smile was priceless. Awesome performance
Thanks - and thanks for the kind comment :D
And Stewart recorded that in just one take! Insane!
One of my favourite songs ever and you smashed it! So much talent!
You get better everyday. I just love the influx of young women taking up drums and tearing it up. 😎
Now we need some all girl bands!!! Like back in the 80's.
I appreciate you supporting some of us :)
I enjoy watching and supporting a number of amazing drummers on CZcams. Everyone is extremely talented in their drumming but what sets you apart is your let your personality show through in every video. Keep it up Mia right to the top!
Whats with all the sexist remarks? This isn't the 1930s anymore
It's a human being. It has limbs. I don't know why being a girl is such a important distinction.
I find it incredible that this young lady is only thirteen. Her technique and her confidence are out of this world.
mmmmh...13? 5 years ago she was 13.
I have always noticed something about Police drummer I could never really describe. Thanks for the music lesson.🙂👍
He's very unique. Both he and the Police made there own sound which is so rare.. and awesome.
message? Nice! Hell; I gotta get to sleep! Great job. No more for me tonight!!!!!
This young lady is truly destined for Stardom! Her musical ability coupled with her wonderful personality is a sure fire combination. Best of luck to you Mia!
Thank you very much, I'll try to prove you right someday..
@@miamorrismusic I will bet that you do!😊
Wow you did the song justice, such passion, amazing to watch all the finer points, mind blown, excellent
Excellent, Mia. I'll guarantee ya that NO drummer offered a thumbs down on this video. Actually, I don't know why anyone would, but some are just so jealous that others can accomplish something where they can't accomplish anything. You've come a long way, kiddo.
:) I really liked playing this one.
FANTASTIC! I really enjoy watching her play, especially since she basically made me watch just to see WHAT she is doing as a comparison, not that I'd know what a drummer SHOULD be doing anyway. Mia is just fun to watch.
Awesome work on the Hi-hat. The snare and your playing sounds great
🤘🏼🤘🏼
It was a fun one to learn from - thank you.
I'm a guitar player but first thing I noticed was her great touch on the Hi-hat!
You're adorable..
Ever notice great performers make their craft look so effortless...?
Yours was lovely..thx!
I really appreciate that - thank you.
love it great job .....................
It's all the detail, fills and flourishes that I love ... you don't realise how much is going on until someone (with skill) makes it so easy to see. Thanks.
That's a nice way to put it but I know exactly what you mean. Thanks for giving it your time.
Everything little thing you do you do it with apparent ease & a smile..;-))
Ha! Apparent belongs in there :) thank you.
@@miamorrismusic Apparently the better you become, the more comments you'll get...or so they say..;-))
Wow! What a phenomenal performance of a very difficult part- As I said, there's a reason Peter Gabriel hired him to play just the hi-hat...⛰🎩 Love him working the faders of the old school board in the vid 🎛🎚 Have a great weekend Mia! 🌞
You too - thanks. I hadn't heard that about Peter Gabriel but I can certainly see the logic in it.
Copeland was (and still is) an absolute beast, and incredibly few can duplicate what he does. But wow, that was incredibly good. Sky is the limit with your amount of talent.
wow - thank you very much and I certainly agree with you about Stewart. I LOVE his playing.
I"m an 80's kid, grew up with this song. Great song! I'm not a musician, percussion is spot on by the smile on my face. NICE!
My favorite thing about Mia is how she's always smiling while she plays. It's obvious this young lady just loves making music! Mia, I hope that never changes for you, no matter how long you're in the music biz, which can be a toxic environment. Rock on, young lady! 🤘💜🤘
You nailed it, David. As a dad with three daughters, the number one thing for me is to see them smiling. Mia loves what she is doing - and it shows greatly. Wishing her tons of success in the future!
I hope it's a very long time. It's my favorite thing - thanks.
Very Good and Very Pretty without a dought. But watch "Sina Drums" do Bostons , Foreplay/Long Time. And orhers that she has collaborated with all over the 🌎. Mia and Sina and other young musicians bring back the days of our youth from songs from the early 70s, 80s and 90 that most of us either forgot or no time to listen too. Thank you for that...
People would pay me cold cash NOT to sing, much less anything musical. That being said, Mia’s solo guitar videos are dirge like, make me think of funerals. The charismatic spontaneity of her drumming is no where to be felt in her singing and guitar. An exceptionally beautiful voice, but in the manner of gloom. I am no expert, but I know what I like.
Absolutely killed it! I think Copeland is such an underrated drummer. Thanks for doing this cover!
My pleasure. I think he's one of a kind and one of few for having so much impact on a bands sound.
Stuart Copeland is underrated by NOT ONE single person on the planet who knows even the slightest thing about music.
Drummers are the magical clock for any band. If your drummer is solid, your band is solid. Well done Miss! Any band that lands you is fortunate.
One of the best of The Police. Great Cover! Thanks for sharing.
Omg Mia...love this song..what u add to this song is magic...u super talented ♥️♥️
Mia...that was fucking awesome!!!
My favourite Police song and one of my all time favourite drum performances.
Fantastic to hear/see it up close.
Looking forward to the next one.🤩
Thank you very much - I love the band as well!
As always... Excellent!
Its wonderfull! Thanks for sharing with us!
Wow! Double wow wow! This is an incredibly hard drum cover, yet you make it seem effortless. Nice stick twirl thrown in just because you can! The prodigal princess!!!
:) hey John - Stewart is a blast to learn fun, thanks.
Every thing you do is also magical. Great drummer! Mia!
:) thank you
Love this. I’ve probably watched it 25 times over the last nine or so months. This is what it looks like when you practice a lot.
Love everything you do Mia. Glad you were such a sensation when you appreared on AGT a couple of years after this cover. You not only play multiple instruments...you play each of them well!
I love the stick twirl. Really adds to the fun of watching these. 😁
Thanks Jeff. I love this song..
Your drumming is more smooth than most people can even walk lol👍
Fantastic job, Mia!
Fun fact:
I live in a suburb of the island of Montreal in the province of Quebec, Canada and back in the early 80's my group of friends included one boy who's uncle was a sound engineer at the famous Le Studio recording studio located in Morin Heights in northern Quebec. The Police album "Ghost In The Machine|" (which included the song "Every L:ittle Thing She Does Is Magic") was recorded there in 1980 and released in 1981. His uncle suggested that a group of us come to the studio to see how things worked since we all loved music. Unfortunately, our ride there had car trouble and we got there about an hour later than planned. When we finally got there we were heartbroken to find out that we missed meeting Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers by about 30 minutes as they had left after recording "Every Little Thing". It would have been a dream come true to meet them.
is that the studio where they filmed the video as well? ..where Sting danced on the board?
@@miamorrismusic No the video was shot in Montserrat. Rumor has it that Sting absolutely destroyed the sliders on the board by dancing on it.
Simply awesome 👏👏
💞💞💞 Awesome Stewart is one of my Favorite Drummers I kind of play my Traditional Grip like him
he makes that look so cool!
Wow, spot on Mia!!! What a awesome drummer you are and it totally shows when you play! I grew up listening to The Police and was fortunate to see them in concert! One of my all time favorite rock group back in the day!
I hope your still keeping up with Mia. She will be making history in the music world!
Amazing playing!
Your understanding and respect for what these musicians created is really cool.
I love the Police :) I really wanted to do Stewarts part justice.
Excellent job on the high-hat. That is the toughest thing when playing anything by Stewart.
Awesome job, great song! Love your facial expressions while your playing. 🤣
Thank you and thanks for taking the time to comment.
Damn Mia you nailed it 😋👍
Had me tapping along.
Really synced like you were live in the band😘🤘😉 just awesome!!!!
Thank you, I really enjoyed playing this one.
Love Stewart Copeland...and the Police. Awesome selection. Great job...sounded just like Stewart! I actually listened to it twice in a row...AWESOME!
:D I really appreciate that. I really had a blast playing it once it began to sink in and I've got so much respect for how unique his playing is.
@@miamorrismusic You know the cool thing is that you're teaching us about music too. I am a huge music lover...but I myself am not musically inclined (I can't sing and I can't play any instruments)...but I love and appreciate music. I really had never heard of the terms, "playing ahead, behind, or on top of the beat". But when you mentioned it, it made me research it, so I could understand what you were talking about. I guess, I always assumed that drummers always played on top of the beat ALWAYS. I appreciate the lesson and the awesome playing, on your part. Keep it up! Love hearing you play.
I wasn't sure if I was talking too much about that so I appreciate you letting me know. I find the subtle difference really cool and if I don't sort of adopt the drummers feel, it sounds consistently sloppy, if that can be said. Stewart really is one of the more unique drummers with his approach so I thought he's be the guy to talk about it if I was ever going to.
Amazing all the exact arrangements, cool cover.
Awesome cover Mia!!! Keep rocking!!!!
Thank you. It's a fun one to play :)
Man that's a great job. Steward Copeland stuff is super challenging and you make it look easy.
What I also like is how you engage the camera/audience. You've been doing this since your early videos and seems to be something that you do naturally, which is an amazing natural skill to have,.
I really appreciate that and it's funny you mention the early vids. Not everyone likes how much I smile or that I perform, and I used to consider doing something else occasionally. Then, I happened to be answering a comment on my very first video and I watched it and laughed as I saw it's exactly how I played when there was NO WAY anyone would see what I posted. I love to play and apparently perform. I'm glad you like it because it's me :)
Stewart Copeland is my #2 fave drummer. He is quite the artist and you do him justice.
Thank you very much.
Just wonderful !
Awesome job Mia. You manage to make it look easy as well as fun.
I try to get the songs dialed in to where I don't have to think much.. then, they are totally fun to play - thanks!
Very nice job!!! You're awsome with them stix!!! ☺☺☺
:D I love the drums!
This is a fantastic track and with one of my fav drum fills. Stewart is a legend and you rock!
Hi Mia.. Your a great natural teacher, thanks for bringing us along with you on this brilliant journey, and making it more accessible.
Love the Police bit too... keep up the fantastic work..🙂
Wow, great job on a real tough drummer! Your smile is magic! You are stunning!😘
i really appreciate that, thank you!
Well done, Mia🙂. You work those cymbals so well! Drumming is in your soul, no doubt about it...you make a difficult song look easy, plus you have so much fun doing it...it comes right from your heart...that's a true artist, no doubt about it
you make it look easy. You are really talented.
I have a wonderful little 7yo daughter, with long blonde hair, named Mia and she wants to start playing the drums. Guess who her inspiration is? LOL Thank you, Mia, for sharing your talent and your joy. I know you mean a lot to many people. Best wishes!
That comment makes me smile. Thank you so much and I've gotta say, music has brought me so much joy so if she loves it, keep getting her instruments.
Geez, that was great! You're so good at figuring things out. Bonus for me, since Ghost is probably my favorite album. We'd wait for MTV to play this because it was so fun. Once again, awesome Mia! 😀🤙
I'm with ya on Ghost.. so much great material over several albums! Thanks :)
O, you make it look easy. It can’t be that hard. 🤔
Jk
Your amazing the range of music you do is very impressive. U go girl!
My hats off to your parents as well. Great job Mom & Dad! 👍
:) thank you and I will pass that along!
Awesome job 👏 like always thanks for the cool into an telling us what's hard about a song and kinda breaking it down for us
I'm really glad to hear that wasn't a bore - thank you.
I’m a drummer and as hard as it looks it’s easy. I’m also a big fan of the police and my favorite song by them is message in a bottle nice drumming and thanks for showing us all!
Yessss!!!...did I say yes?.yesss!!!..thanks for vid.."it's been awhile"..haha..love ya!!
yaaaasss - such a fun one to play!
First time listener, man you have some skill with those drums. Very well done. Subbed.

Mia Morris
My pleasure Mia! Stewart is without a doubt my favorite drummer of all time. I had the pleasure of seeing the Police twice when I was a young man. He is mesmerizing to watch. I am very impressed with your skills. You are certainly gonna go far. Rock on young lady!!!🙏🏻
👏🥁You did Stewart Copeland proud
:) that's a cool thought - thanks.
That was amazing! Keep up the great work, my favourite song ever.
I love the joy you exhibit when playing. Infectious. Keep those sticks swinging Mia Morris 🤘 🥁
I really appreciate that :) thank you for taking the time.
Mia, Mia, Mia...
Too many great things in this performance to mention here.
Truly some Big Girl hi-hat work going on.
#bettereveryday
Peace. JR
hehehe - my Dad likes to mock me with, big girl comments occasionally. (He really thought this one was good too tho). Thanks!
Your own stylings and finesse are tremendous! You have a mind like a metronome and yer killin' it! Fan forever!
I appreciate that, thank you very much. This one is a blast.
sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. You love these songs and it really really shows. Thanks for making and sharing this, it's wonderful stuff.
Love the twirl of he drumstick! You are amazing playing.
Bravo!
A+ for song selection! One of my favorite songs from perhaps my favorite band.
Stewart Copeland is such a great drummer...so technical and precise, I know it’s him playing, immediately. His stuff is not easy to do justice to, but you killed it!
Thanks for another smile-inducing post! Keep up the good work and keep on rocking!
I'm with ya on Stewart and the Police. How cool that a drummer is so distinct that you can tell listening :)
Aw, everything you drum is magic... ♪ ♫ ;)
:D Thank you very much!
That was awesome 👌. Love Stuart Copelands drummin
Awesome ! Love your drum covers.
Great! My favorite Album is Ghost in the Machine. from Japanese
I love the Police and that's a great record for sure. Thanks!
One of the best covers I've seen you do yet, Mia! You look so confident and at ease behind the kit. Curious, how long do you practice a song usually before you shoot it?
Thank you. That varies of course. This one was maybe 3, one hour sessions of really digging in and figuring out what he's doing then another couple of sessions trying to really lock in with his feel, memorize the part and get to where I'm really getting to enjoy it without thinking too much.
As a fan of the police since 1987 I tell you that I was impressed by the perfection of your hearing and the way you play this song !!!!. I just miss the sound of a kind of bell from 4:58 to 5:00 but that's my obsession with the great Stewart hahaha don't worry maybe it was an overdub he did. He did many as he said. My favorite part 4:25 to 4:28 it gave me goose bumps jjajaajaj !!!!!. thanks you are the best !!!!!!!
Out of all of the female drummers channeling on CZcams, you are the absolute BEST!!! You have an impeccable meter, patience, and control over any kit you play. This is coming from a former "A" circuit frontman from Tampa Bay who played with some extremely talented musicians over the span of 17 years, and opened for some amazing national act e.g. Greg Allman, Cheap Trick, Foreigner, Blue Oyster Cult, Steppenwolf, Little River Band...and more!!! You are FANTASTIC, and very cute to top it all off!!!
I really appreciate the very kind comment and for you just taking the time to watch. I know being an opening band has it's challenges but I would love the chance for those challenges :)
Great job. One thing: you could move your stick a bit forward on the rim shots for a tighter sound.
I'll experiment - thank you.
Well done - Stewart Copeland is one of the Gods of drumming... will be interested to see you tackle Neil Peart
:) Thanks. I'm guessing I tackle some Rush when I have time to do it justice.
That was awsome!
My favorite Police song. Thanks. Loved every second.
Man, I love it too. They've got some really great stuff - thanks.
would love to hear you play 'in the air tonight' by Phil Collins
No
Made my day..great work..love the floor shot w the vid in it..is that new?..I don't remember seeing that before.. anyway...thanks again gorgeous..have a great weekend
Thanks, pretty new - you have a good one as well!
OMG this a great cover! You totally have captured the Stewart Copeland feel. Those extra hi-hat flourishes were just out of this world perfect. I have to go listen to this again.
Beautiful. Great drumming too.
