- BR Blues - Part 1 of 4
From the mid 1960s through to the 1980s, 'rail blue' became the corporate identity of British Rail. To some, this livery became the norm and fondly remembered by enthusiasts but to others it represented a modern scene at odds with their golden era of steam locomotives. This video explores the various memories associated with such an era and reminisces with those who remember the time well.

The 1970s footage brings back many childhood memories. My thought on the BR blue era is that although the livery itself got monotonous, the sheer variety of motive power and DMUs gave plenty of interest for us enthusiasts
when I was little everything was blue. Living in Doncaster with the ECML visible from the bedroom window was a Joy. My brother and I saw our 1st HST set from that bedroom window. I'm 50 now. I was in Sheffield a few weeks ago and a Banana Yellow hst came through. Brought a smile to my face
Ho what memories the good old BR blue days from my time loved every second
Fantastic, great addition with the memories being shared alongside it.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video especially the commentary 😊 that was my favourite era as I was a mad train spotter in the 70s 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it
Great to hear the various memories. The 2-tone green 47 interloper made me smile, as did the Hymek & Western.
Glad you enjoyed it
512 Brush built, Duffs to most not to the bashers, green ones in the 1980s were the GWR style 079, 484, 500 & 628.
BR Blue was the best.
Excellent bit of footage.. different world back then for sure.... everything in BR blue. Interesting to hear that you could still see some greens around... that was before my time.. Great bit of commentary too! Good old days for sure, deep sigh. 😒
Glad you enjoyed it
Still remains my favourite livery
Great video John brings back some great memories i was a brush four basher or spoon man 512 built they where not duff also i was the only person to get a photo off a bubble car at Cleethorpes on the Barton service it was on it for three days never saw one before that or after very rare
Thanks
Nice video. Look forward to more, as this was very much my era. Faves were the Westerns, as they were disappearing, and the Deltics, because they were common to my area on the ECML. Brush 4s and 2s were rather routine, as were the usual form of local transport, the Cravens class 105/106.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good stuff 👍👍👍
I`ve commented on loads of vids about how much I like British Rail Blue and Yellow , my era of trains
Great video of these classic locomotives.
Thank you very much!
@@foretrak Welcome 😊
6:02 - look how close the track workers are to the speeding 47 light engine!!!!!
Great film. The clip of the 47 on single track looked like the Green Lane Gretna Road area of Coventry along the Coventry to Leamington route?
Thanks. Near to Coventry side of Kenilworth loop I think.
CAN REMEMBER D.M.U,S AND CLASS 47,S PASSING THROUGH DEWSBURY I LIKED THAT AS WELL ON DMU TRAINS WHEN THE BLIND IN DRIVER CAB WAS UP
hi, where i lived in sussex everything was green, remember when the Brighton Belle went in to blue, ghastly.overhall blue was a good colour for locos but BR was not the best for looking after them
What’s a brush four? Sweeping up!
For me there were 2 types of DMU, bald ones and hairy ones! Now I’ve told you, see if you know what I mean
