Thanks, this was very helpful because I just got one of these and the instructions suck on telling you how to actually install the blade.
Thank you. You video was very helpful since mine came with the blade taken off. I had a very difficult time getting the blade on until I watched your video! You the man!
I have found that I needed two bandsaws. One for metal and one for wood. I got tired of changing blades between cutting two materials. So happy for the second one.
If you have the space, why not? It's always good to have more efficiency :)
This video was very helpful in showing me where I went wrong - never forget to check the tracking. Thankyou.
Thanks Eric! I didn't seemingly do anything differently than the 10 times before I turned on your video (same bandsaw and exact same blades - must be an HD near you too) except for omitting the cursing, of course, but for some reason, doing it by your exact method produced a perfectly installed blade. And I feel safer now before I cut her back on. As soon as I figure out that Patron thing, there'll be money for a sixer on the way brother. 🤜💥🤛 Many thanks again.
@Andy Stokes Glad I could help! Stay Safe - Cheers! 🙂 🍺
wow this guy is efficient and easy to listen to. Great job!!!!
I’ve just bought the same bandsaw but under the Titan name which is a home brand for ScrewFix, who are a British cheap tool company. This video is very useful for me, thank you.
@Mark Harris Thanks! For the cost, it's not a bad bandsaw. Cheers 🙂
Thank you!! A friend gave me an older Ryobi bandsaw, and I have been struggling to set the alignment until I saw this video. 👍🏻👍🏻
@Andrew Lee Design Nice! Glad I could provide some help. Have fun with it🙂
Thanks, you made it easy and safely which made me feel confident in assembling mine with the blade off the wheels out of the box.
Thanks for posting this, I just bought my saw yesturday and blade setup suxs... this was more helpful then some of the other videos.
my only problem with this Ryobi 9" bandsaw was no fence included, wish it had one.
@Brad Giez Yes, I wish it had a fence too but I guess it's not really meant for re-sawing. I did a video on how to make your own fence for it if you want to check it out: czcams.com/video/X5FfQVa8GLs/video.html
Thank you for the actually helpful and specific help.
Excellent. Thank you.I've been considering buying one
This was super helpful. Thank you!
Great Job it helped me for sure. Now I will put mine together.
Thanks man you helped me a lot
Thank you for the video. I just picked one up yesterday.
Thanks Jk Canvas! They're good little bandsaws for the price. Pretty easy to maintain. Happy sawing : )
Eric Sorensen I need to change my drive belt but cannot find one local. Going to have use the ol Amazon.
You were hands down the most helpfull
@Stacy Austin thanks! Cheers 🙂
Thanks for these instructions. Very helpful. I just got this band saw. I do have one question. How do I know my tension is right and when do I use the top knob? It seems my new 1/4" blade is a little loose because it seems to bend somewhat. However, I just learned an important lesson. I watched another video on replacing the blade and the guy said make sure the teeth are pointing down! I didn't know they could face any other way. Well, the guy i bought it from put and obviously twisted the blade and put it on with the teeth facing up, but i didn't know that and and I just realized that may be why my boards were burning and not cutting good at all. I turned the blade inside out and put it on the the teeth facing down and bingo! Cuts like butter. Lesson learned.
@ Linda Chandler Thanks! The band should never be loose. Check that you engaged the lever at the back all the way before adjust the tension knob at the top of the machine.
@Linda Chandler With the machine unplugged - You need get the blade centered by hand. I usually have the release lever engaged only part way while i'm adjusting by hand. When the blade is centered on both wheels, engage the lever to keep the blade in place. Now you are ready to adjust the tracking. The tracking adjustments are pretty sensitive, so it doesn't take much just a 1/4 turn - or less in either direction. Finally, you adjust the tension with the knob on the top. This is also very sensitive - it only takes a 1/4, 1/2 turn or so to get the tension so the blade remains straight and rigid, but be careful not to over tighten.
Awesome video thanks for the tips!
I have this exact model and my knob that adjusts the height of the blade guard has fallen off.... Has anyone had this happen and how did you re-attach it??
I try to screw it back on but like nothing it grabbing it... idk if soething is broken internally?
Good one Eric! Me thinks that everyone hates having to change band saw blades, I know that I do................ :)
Thanks Steve :) It wasn't too bad. This Ryobi is pretty easy to maintain. I know some of the bigger, older bandsaws are a pain due to dealing with the longer band and additional adjustments.
Thanks Eric. Watching this video reminded me of a Craftsman band saw I used to have. It was a royal pain in the drain to switch out blades. Looks like 1/4 inch is your "go-to" size. Ever have an occasion to use smaller or larger width blades?
Thanks David! The 1/4" is the factory blade that comes with it, which is the one that broke. So I decided to stick with he same size as a good all around use - I might try the 3/8" at some point. This little Ryobi bandsaw is really easy to change and set for blade swaps...I guess some brands are easier than others :)
nice vid. I have the blade nice and tight but I get a lot of drift even when using the fence, any tips?
Eric, Is this your regular band saw or a spare one? This because you have very kind woodworking skills and ingenuity and are demonstrating a low budget band saw. Is this an accurate and reliable band saw that I can buy to use for my week end projects? Thanks. I do follow your channel.
Thank-you @Braulio Perez! Yes, this is the only bandsaw I own and it was also inexpensive. I might buy a new one at some point but for now, this does most of what I want it to do. Porter cable sells a similar bandsaw but I think the Ryobi was the best price - good for weekend projects.
Thank you Eric. I have the same Ryobi 9" band saw. My top tension knob doesn't turn, the blade seems to need tightening, and the rapid adjustment lever has creates no tension. Any idea how to loosen up the top knob?
Did you engage the black lever at the back? The top wheel needs to go back up into it's running position, then you fine adjust the tension with the knob at the top.
I have the same bandsaw, but I keep having issues of my blade curving on me and not following the line I’m trying to follow. Any tips would be awesome.
Hi, any tips on how to make sure my band saw doesn't turn at the start of the cut?
hi Eric, I have the same bandsaw and I want to change the blade but what is available at my place is powertec and olson blade which one is better and what is the most useful size 1/4x6TPI or 1/8x14TPI or 3/8x4TPI?
@Georges Wahid The lower the TP the Faster the cut. The higher the TPI, the smoother the cut. I prefer the 1/4x6TPI for cleaner cuts myself . I've never used powertec but the I know the Olson blades are pretty good. If you want it to last a little longer, you could go for the thicker band - 1/8 or 3/8.
I have an earlier model of this saw (the 903 model), bought second hand and barely used. When I flip the tension release lever over, the top wheel does not move down as shown and as I think it should. I cannot get the new sawblade on. Any idea what's wrong and what I can do about it?
You might have a lock / unlock dial or lever that needs to be disengaged before the wheel can move up. You might be able to find the directions in this manual online: pdfstream.manualsonline.com/d/d11d52f5-ea17-ff24-1523-fe0164551a45.pdf
eric could you tell me after using this bandsaw for awhile how do you like it and would you buy another one or a different brand
It's okay for the price. I will use it until it dies, then probably buy a better one.
blades last longer now that I take tension off blade when im not using it
@peter titan That's a good tip! Cheers 🙂
Eric hope all is well brother. Electric planer stand/jointer turned out perfect, so thanks!! So curious, I just bought a set of new blades at HD, Bosch High Carbon Steel 3 piece set with 6, 15 & 19 TPI. But they look like pretty good quality but I see you mentioned the quality being Soso, and that you ordered something of better quality. Didn’t see any links in your description referencing what you ordered, so could you tell me? Thanks again man.......Bobby
Thanks Bobby! I currently use the Olson Blade in my bandsaw. It's holding up better than the Bosch blade: amzn.to/3hFR0MZ
Thank u sir!
Hello do you used any brand saw for your RYOBI ??
Olson
Hey, my bottomwheel bearing is touching my blade but not the top bearing. Do you know how to adjust the bottom wheel bearing? Would help lots. Thanks
@Antarctipelta I just posted a response to your issue on my community posts here: czcams.com/users/sorensenmancommunity
You suggested the Bosch blade was just OK and you bought in because the local store had it. What blade did you order online instead then?
@MikeTheSith200 The "Olson Saw WB55362BL 62-Inch by 1/4 Wide by 6 TPI Band Saw Blade" is the one I bought on Amazon. I just recently installed it. It turns out to be much better than the Bosch blade, which has already broken since this video was made.
hey Eric, not sure what model RYOBI I have , I will have to check for sure today when I get out and about, but it say it takes a 62 and 1/2 inch blade, 1/4 up to 3/8 wide, well, not one to be found locally, didn't want to order one, question is can you run a 62 inch on a 62 and 1/2 inch band saw. if not, guess I will scrap this band saw and go with something I can get locally. I don't like to buy what I can't see first. any way thanks
I've never heard of a 62 1/2 inch bandsaw. The Ryobi 9 inch band saw accepts 62 inch bands. They are not always easy to find locally for me, so I buy mine on Amazon: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B000BQP0HQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@EricSorensenCanada the manual that came with the saw calls for a 62.5 inch band, on the door it calls for a 62 inch thanks for the reply, I can get them at home depot or lowes, I though I had to get a 62.5. any way thanks
When in doubt, go with the specs on the door🙂. The user manual probably has a typo / bad translation.
I bought this at Home Depot and only 3 weeks of ownership the motor died. They replaced it with another one.
How is it now?
Replaced blade but it cuts straight on the top of the wood but scew on the bottom. Might it be blade tension that's not correct?
Make sure your band blade is sitting on the bearing guides correctly. It sounds like it might be out of alignment at the bottom.
@@EricSorensenCanada tx, so the bearing at the back is very close to the back of the blade and the two guides to the left and right are also very close to the blade. Same with the bottom settings. I've tensioned the blade even more and also moved it to the back of the roller wheel. It was in the middle. It's better now but still very temperamental. Any other suggestions?
Unplug the machine, open the top and bottom wheel compartments, move the wheel carefully by hand and make sure your blade is tracking on in the center of the wheels. Also, make sure your upper wheel is locked in the up position ( lever at the back ). If it's not, you may have to release the tension again, lock it in place then fine tune your tension from there.
What is the maximum cutting height?
@Leonardo Isidro 9 inches
What is your preferred blade that you would use?
@Cameron Holmes There aren't a lot of brands locally for me, so I really don't have preference. The Bosch band installed in this video is still going strong and does a decent job. Again, that's what they had in the size I needed at Home Depot.
What brand did you buy for the upgraded blade
@Walter Serrano I bought the Bosch 62-inch 6TPI Band Saw Blade at Home Depot.
Thank you i order it already
@@EricSorensenCanada Did that blade work on Ryobi? I bought it too, but I didn t like the teeth, was more difficult to cut
Do you miss the lacking fence?
@Ed Haskell I ended up making a simple fence for it: czcams.com/video/X5FfQVa8GLs/video.html
Plastic, but it wont rust. Thanks for sharing
For less than $200, it's pretty decent. Easy to work with and maintain. Of course, it's not a cast iron Delta ;)
my blade keeps popping off when I turn on the saw, any ideas?
@Robert Reynolds It sounds like you need to adjust the tracking so that it stays centered on the wheel. You can unplug the machine and do this manually rotate the top wheel a few times and keep an eye on the blade while you adjust the tracking knob. Once you have the tracking fixed, adjust the tension knob at the top to ensure the tension is right. Not too tight - enough so the blade isn't flexing but stays straight.
My blade continues to pop off the wheel no matter what adjustment I make, any suggestions?
To fix drift or the blade popping off do this: Make sure you have the correct blade / size for your saw. Unplug the bandsaw. Adjust your tracking on the top wheel and turn manually until your blade is dead center on the top wheel through the full rotation.
Do this with enough tension (tension knob) in the blade so that it doesn't pop off. After that, adjust the blade tension until the blade is straight and parallel to the the fence, meaning it won't twist slightly as you put pressure on it. Once you have this all done all this, plug in and turn it on. Let it go through a few rotations. unplug, check for alignment again. If all is good, plug it in and try a test cut. Repeat as needed.
I don't care if they say 62 inch, I swear 62 inch just doesn't get tight enough, the tension adjustment doesn't move far enough
The tension on mine works great with a 62 inch band. Are you sure your top wheel is locked in the upper position when you engage the tension knob? Sometimes it's easy to forget that step...
@@EricSorensenCanada its somewhat decent with an 1/8 blade but i bought an olson 62inch 3/8 wide blade and it really needs to be tighter. Just another 1/16 of tightness would even help. The blade just vibrates a lot at speed and you can see it hitting the plastic guard
Even with a 1/8 blade i swear it could be tighter. Its like they mounted the wheel mount assemlby fame just a bit too low like 1/16 to 1/8 too low, when they welded it to the case. The tension knob doesnt do anything really i pretty much have it maxed out always
Yep i have the quick tensioner turned off and i have the tension knob almost all the way turned in, but the wheel is as far up as it will go. Is there something else i might be missing?
In your video your balde definitely seems tighter than mine gets even the thinner blades. The 3/8 blade i have is definitely loose.it actually worked and cuts but its definitely not tight enough
I found a video explaining the problem and a fix / modification to the saw czcams.com/video/DHgltF3_ceg/video.html
Where is the zero clearance insert for the table ? That is a big hole !
Hence why I had to change the blade on the bandsaw. So I could finish cutting the zero clearance plate :)
Looks like that bandsaw was never used
How do you measure the width of the blade is it from tip of teeth to back of blade?
Hi Claire! Yes, that is exactly right. I didn't need to measure mine because I have the manufacturer specs for the bandsaw. Most bandsaw brands will easily accept 1/4".
