  • In this short video we show you how to make some truly awesome cheese paste, for less than £5 and in only 5 mins.
    Using simple ingredients:
    150g Danish blue cheese = £1.65
    350G Mature cheddar cheese = £2
    450g Shortcrust pastry = 75p
    Garlic and salt is optional, but we find real garlic is much better than powdered garlic and the salt helps lift and enhance the cheese.
    We don't like adding colours to the cheese as we want it as bright white as possible, which also gives it a nice visual in coloured water.
    The results to date on our paste has been so good, it just seems to draw fish to it and they cant resist to not pick it up.
    Give it a go :)

    Going back to the river after an extremely long time, it's been like 10 years since I made cheese paste and I'd totally forgotten the shortbread/flour part, I was stood with cheese slime wondering why it was so soft and weird but thanks to you its now something I can form round my hook lol cheers dude 🤘

      @@ouseanglers well as you can imagine after 10 years everything had changed majorly so that was my first problem, the second was the fact most of the fishable places were about a foot deep and everything was crystal clear so that wasn't ideal but I caught 1 that was about a pound maybe more and then I weighed the other one I caught at just over 5lbs so all things considered I think that was a good morning on the river. Can't wait for it to be in flood though lol

      Darren, thanks for giving it a go! yes 100% I find it perfect when it’s hard - stays put and doesn’t come off the hook. Had so many decent chub on it when both hard and soft, chub have very strong pharyngeal teeth which are capable of crushing hard items, so hard cheese paste is really no issue 😊👍🏻

      Yes mate i know they've not got a problem with it but it's when you strike to set the hook I'm wondering if the hook will pull through it to hook the fish I'm sure I'll find out it's a good paste though 👍

      @@darrenanthonycolbeck2271 Ah, yes buddy the reason why I always leave the hook point showing. I always use a big hook, mainly a size 4 or 6 wide gape and mould around the shank without masking the hook point 👍🏻😎

    Looks like a good simple recipe
    How do you store it that is can it be frozen between sessions?

      Thanks for your feedback mate! Yes I normally cut the finished ball into 2 half’s freeze one and just always have one on the go. It does keep quite well and I find the older it gets the better the smell gets 😊

    Great video. What is that wire device on your hook? Is it part of the hook or have you slid it on?

    • @ouseanglers
      @ouseanglers  Před 2 lety

      Hi Will, thank you for watching, the wire bit on the hook is a bait coil / paste spring and then I slide on a shank stop to help keep this in place. I find that if the water temp is quite warm the paste can fall off if you have a missed bite or a knock or 2 and these coils help retain the paste better. Hope this helps mate :)

    I fish the Great Ouse regularly. Around Milton Keynes and Newport Pagnell. When are you producing and uploading more videos? I'd be eager to see more. These days the Ouse is most definitely an under utilised waterway now most of the Barbel have been eaten.
    Is it only Beds you fish? Or Bucks also?

    • @ouseanglers
      @ouseanglers  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Joseph, Iots more videos coming very soon :) Yes buddy the lack of barbel is very sadly however the chub are thriving with the less competition and the Ouse is producing some specimen size fish latey. There are still a few barbel here and there is you know where to look :)
      No I only fish around beds pal. Thanks, for the message.

      @@ouseanglers thanks mate. That's all great news. I fish MKAA and DATS stretches. Caught Chub to over 7lbs last season. And it's my belief that there are potential record breakers to be had in the Upper Ouse. You're right about the fact that Chub are getting bigger given lack of competition for food. Also, the fact that the winters are milder is another good reason fish are getting bigger and fatter with more natural food around. I'm looking forward to more content on here. Its brilliant somome is featuring the Ouse again. It still is a great river!
