This video really helped me out. I bought the remote for easy control of the GoPro Hero 8 when I'm on my motorcycle. But getting stressed out because I couldn't find the option to power on/off the camera with the remote. Almost thought the remote was useless lol. With the GoPro Hero 8 the reconnection only takes 2/4 sec. Thanks for this video, really clear explanation!

Oh wow. We use GoPros for filming hunting and fishing. So much can happen in 20 seconds! GoPros take our videos to the next level, but we have had such issues with their reliability which includes remote connection. Hopefully, they figured it out this time.
Also really wish we knew beforehand that the Hero 8 black was not entirely compatible with the Smart Remote. Missed a lot of amazing shots this turkey season due to using the wrong remote! Really do not want to spend the extra money on this product but I suppose we have no choice. Ordering now. Thanks for the video.

Excellent review. I've been using GoPro Smart Remotes for 10 years on my Hero 2, 4 and 7. As they were discontinued, I could fortunately get a Telesin that works just as well. I'm keen to sell my H4 and buy a Hero 11 and the new Remote. Other than spare batteries for a GoPro, the remote is the next best invention for action activities.

Buyer Beware! I have used mine about 10 times since I bought it about 2 years ago. I went to charge it today and noticed the back of the remote case was about to fall off. On closer inspection the battery had swelled so much it literally popped the back of the case off. The swelling has happened within a week of its last charge. One thing that scares me I have had numerous GoPro batteries start to swell and had to dispose of. Hero4, Hero7 and now the Super Remote for my.Hero9. Time to find another action camera I think GoPro is just throwing things together and not paying attention to quality control.

Well i've had this remote for a couple of months now and i'm disappointed to say the least.
The battery lasts a long time but that's where the good points end.
The fact the screen isn't backlit is disappointing and trying to read it in semi darkness is pointless but my main gripe is the connectivity, its just awful. At short distances it's ok but i'm having loads of problems at even 17m in good weather and direct line of sight, so much for 60m.
I've lost more video footage than i've captured with this remote thru it refusing to connect.
With all the cameras gopro have launched and i've got 2 hero 4 and the hero 8 they give us a piece of crap remote like this.
This remote just doesn't cut it.
It's pants and £80 wasted. not a happy bunny at all.
Time to change to tactacam i think.

The type-c is not waterproof! It will not charge if water gets in. And the water gets in ! The lid is cheap and not waterproof on type-c

GoPro list this as waterproof, but you are correct - the Type-C port must be plugged with the rubber stopper prior to use in or around water to stop water getting inside.
I wouldn't dunk it underwater, but the odd splash should be fine - as long as the port is plugged!

Rubbish design as they got rid of the channel body design to fit into existing mounts such as the hero 3 design

I did like the remote mounting kit with the previous design to be honest - hopefully they release something similar for the new remote, which does run a lot better and draws much less battery life!

Video was created 3 years ago. However, interested to know how it's changed??
I gave up on GoPro and use the Insta360 Ace Pro with the Live Preview Remote now!

It's the biggest load of junk. After you record longer than 4 minutes it needs to reconnect then it say recording but actually doesn't. I'm completely over go pro and there junk products
