  • I started testosterone on June 24, 2022, which means I recently celebrated my second Tran-iversary. I posted a retrospective about my physical changes after my first year on T ( • Year 1 on T: Physical ... ), and I wanted to share an update after year 2. So here's a look at how things are progressing!
    (Warning: contains very brief mentions of unintentional weight cycling and injury, along with discussion of gross body stuff associated with a testosterone-driven puberty)

    1y2m in at this point. The end of shark week (8 mos ago) was likely the best, though my reaction to it disappearing was not what I had expected. It was almost like I didn't notice that it went away, since that's what should have always been my norm. Like, "Yeah, this is what it's supposed to be, so it's not notable."
    Voice changes have been fun. Loving the facial hair, though that's been happening/trying to happen for almost a decade. I had the odd experience of starting my medical transition with a scruffy beard since I just stopped plucking it when my egg cracked. Body hair is unexpectedly awesome. And, for the same reason you outlined, I have liked the increased facial oil.

      Congratulations on being more than a year in! That's awesome! Your reaction to shark week going away is such a mood. (My doctor stopped mine with other medication before I got on T due to ongoing struggles with anemia, and when it went away I didn't have some big moment of "Oh good, it's gone!" but more of a feeling of "This is correct now because it was never supposed to be there in the first place.") I've heard of some trans people having similar reactions to their gender affirming surgeries too.
      I'm glad you're enjoying the other changes too! Especially the facial hair - it's so cool that you already started with some before T! (I never had any pre-T, and now I'm constantly geeking out over the tiny bit I've managed to grow so far.) Also it's really awesome to hear from someone else who likes the increased facial oil-I feel like most people aren't fans of that and can't relate, lol. I hope you keep enjoying your changes as you get further along on T! Thank you so much for watching and sharing how your journey has gone :)

    Have you ever considered using brown eyebrow dye or beard dye on your eyebrows? It can help them look thicker by making the hair you do have more visible.

    • @gckinsey
      @gckinsey  Před 9 dny

      I actually tried beard dye on my brows last summer! Unfortunately it didn't work (the hair didn't take the color at all... same thing happened when I tried putting it on my leg hair LOL)

    Hello, G.C. Don't know if your bone density has increased? Have you had a bone densitometry?

    • @gckinsey
      @gckinsey  Před 9 dny +1

      That's a really good question about bone density. It would be interesting to have a bone densitometry done, but I doubt my insurance would cover it (plus I never had one pre-T for comparison anyway). From what I've read about hormones, they can't change/influence bone structure if you start in your mid-30s like I did. But I have no idea whether they might affect bone density at any age. It's an understudied area for sure!

      @@gckinsey In that regard, I am fortunate to live in Mexico because there are clinics here that charge very little for a bone densitometry. And you are right: the ideal would have been to compare your bone density before and after testosterone treatment. I am happy for you because you are receiving your treatment; When my financial situation improves, I will do the same.

      You just hope there won't be any regrets. There are destransitioners who were once adamant and staunch supporters who themselves never thought they would detransition but did.,

  • @valeriagandaraledezma3379

    I'm mexican. Society here is extremely binary. My prejudices make me perceive any type of eyebrow as something masculine as long as they are not retouched. Here, if we notice that you paint your eyebrows or pluck them, then we consider you feminine.

    • @gckinsey
      @gckinsey  Před 9 dny +2

      It's so interesting to see how gender expression is perceived differently in different countries! And it sounds like in Mexico I would really be stuck... if I leave my brows alone, it's very obvious that they were plucked in the past (they never fully recovered from my teenage overplucking)-but if I fill in the gaps with mascara, it doesn't sound like that would help either. Fortunately it does help here in the US, because I get misgendered way less often when I have my brow arches filled in. (The place where I still get misgendered the most is at the pool, and I'm 99% sure my brows are why.)

    Here's a tip mate...real men don't care about our own body odour...if people don't like us then that's their problem
