After I recorded Symphony at 1 year and 11 months on T (czcams.com/video/mwHZ2daJhF0/video.html), the mood struck me to record more acoustic covers of dance songs. So that same day in the studio, I recorded I Could Be the One by Avicii vs. Nicky Romero. I'm a huge fan of Avicii and I still can't believe we lost him so young - but it's comforting to know that lots of people are keeping his music and memory alive.
This song is one of my particular favorites of his. In the original dance version, I love the results of his collaboration with Nicky Romero, plus Noonie Bao's gorgeous vocals. In the acoustic version, the emotions of the song tug at my heartstrings even more powerfully. So that's the version I decided to record. (It hit me so hard in the feels while I was in the studio that I almost had to take a break and try it again later... but I pushed through and I'm glad I did, because all those feels actually helped my vocal performance.)
I used the official instrumental track instead of making my own backing track since the point is just preserving how my voice sounds. I pitched it down from the key of A to the key of D to better suit my range. In that key, I was able to do some interesting stuff with the shifts between my chest and head registers, with lots of mixed voice in between.
