The irony of Nintendo turning inwards after the Game Cube era and pivoting to a 1st-party-software driven business model and being able to completely side-step all the AAA bloat and issues is kind of incredibly funny

    • @johnlucas1543
      @johnlucas1543 Před 3 měsíci +8

+skieth It's funny but entirely understandable if you know the mentality of the company.
Hiroshi Yamauchi set his company up with a particular vision & that vision gets enhanced by each member of staff.
Satoru Iwata was trained to take over the family business by Hiroshi Yamauchi as he passed his methods down.
Satoru Iwata before he passed away passed his methods down to be followed by Tatsumi Kimishima...
...and later Shuntaro Furukawa. Shuntaro Furukawa will pass his methods down to his successors as well.
It's literally in the DNA of the company. From Shigeru Miyamoto to Kit Ellis & Krysta Yang.
Even ex-Nintendo people have that imprint on them. Nintendo is a company with a Soul, with a central Ethos.
Just like the saying from pro wrestling with the group the New World Order (nWo)...
..."When you're nWo, you're nWo 4 Life!" Companies like Nintendo & Motown leave this kind of mark on their staff.
Reggie Fils-Aime can do all kinds of things but he is Nintendo 4 Life just like Kit & Krysta.
They knew what was coming even if the general public did not. They foresaw this outcome & sidestepped it all.
If you wanna understand Nintendo, understand these 2 major things: CONTROL & LONG-TERM PLANNING.

I remember the ridicule that Nintendo got for not being "as powerful" as the 360 and the PS3 back in 2006, and it's amazing that 18 years later that decision is leading them to success today. Same when Nintendo stopped doing regular e3 press conferences on stage, a lot of gaming journalism thought it was the stupidest thing.. fast forward to today, E3 is dead and EVERYONE is doing a digital presentation than a press conference.

    • @johnlucas1543

@@TiMMay336 Nintendo is the Leader of the Business.
They have been so since 1985 when the Famicom went international as the Nintendo Entertainment System.
They are the Visionaries in a field of the Visionless. The One-Eyed Man in the land of the Blind.
Everybody eventually sees the method to their madness in time.
What makes me hopeful right now is that more & more people have finally caught on to what Nintendo said 20 years ago & are now heeding their wisdom, their courage, & their power.
Nintendo is THE BOSS of the Business. People have to accept that.

It makes no sense. AC finally reached immense popularity, and they dropped it so quick. Continuing the game with live service updates like pocket camp would’ve been amazing.
Asking for years of live service is maybe more to request, but the fact that they did not add tortimer island mini games and a final nook shop upgrade is crazy… the game seems unfinished without this.

Management of these companies are different but also priorities and target audiences. They've bought out many companies now to widen their bases, so time will tell, but the way they manage them is definitely going to change some of these companies if they implement changes into those companies.

Something occurs to me looking at the difference between the AAA game companies and the smaller developers, price and volume. Palworld for example, like it or hate it, early access or not, more people took a chance on it because it's less than half the cost of 90% of the AAA games, is fun, looks decent enough and isn't loaded with microtransactions. Everyone is tightening their belts these days and frankly many people don't have 60+ dollars for a game when it comes to something that is pure entertainment.
I mean, profit wise yeah bigger price tags seems good on paper, but really, when you calculate it, what comes out ahead, selling 10 games at 60 dollars a piece, or 1000 for 30? (numbers shrunk/placeholdered for simplicity's sake) Especially with many games going digital only, why the eff are they charging the same for a physical release and a digital download? There is so much less overhead for digital. No need to get factories to produce the physical media, no shipping, no warehousing, no stocking cost, etc etc.
Edit: Oh, and AAA also being out of touch with their consumer base. Not so much on content, in theory at least, but on what the person on the ground can afford in any one time frame. They're assuming that there's a huge amount of disposable income to go around and everyone can afford to spend 60-100 dollars a month on games. The free to play and low cost games sell because a possibly garbage five dollar game is easier on the budget than a possibly garbage game of fifty that could have gone to groceries, out for a nice dinner, bought a couple of cheaper games for etc.

Remember when everyone spelled doom and gloom for Nintendo back in the Wiiu early 3ds days? Look at them now. And with the strength of their timeless IPs to which no other console team has, as long as they continue to deliver to the fans and keep on improving their "switch" concepts, they cannot fail.
Now they have stores, amusement parks and AAA movies!
As it stands right now, literally all they need to do is create a "more powerful switch" and anything mario kart 9, smash 6, or new main pokemon (epecially if they try to improve to Palworlds example) will sell like hotcakes fresh from the oven.

    • @johnlucas1543

+ibechuu Most of these people are getting a lesson in Nintendo 101.
And one key lesson is "Never Underestimate Nintendo".
It's a company of Visionaries & visionaries are few by nature's design.
Most people will NEVER fully understand that company because of this truth.
Even those who DO have some insight into Nintendo's general mindset still have lots to learn.
They look YEARS & DECADES down the line & they understand Human Nature.
They can be shaken but they can never be shambled. They will ALWAYS find a way to move forward.
The era of the 3DS & Wii U (the 1st half of 8th Gen) was their most crucial competition period.
The Smartphone Revolution of Apple & Google could have wiped them entirely out.
Once they got to the era of Switch (the 2nd half of 8th Gen) & survived this Revolution, people should have stood up & took notice. If almighty Apple & Google can't beat Nintendo, then who in the world CAN?
If Mobile's Freemium could not disrupt Nintendo's Premium, then nobody can uproot them anymore.
Nintendo already conquered Sony & Microsoft in the 7th Gen with DS & Wii (Wiimote vs. PS Move & Kinect).
Nintendo will have outlasted the biggest companies on Planet Earth & stayed true to the way they do business.
So there's nobody left. AND THEN they extend their advantage with record-breaking Nintendo movies.
They are setting up PERMANENT dominance & will fully become like Disney. A cultural touchstone.
The Console Market is about to resolve to its inevitable fate, the Nintendo Market.
Console will equal Nintendo who faces off against PC & Tablet PC AKA Mobile.
And Console will win AGAIN in the end just like NES did to PC back in the 1980s.
Sony & Microsoft stepping aside only makes Nintendo stronger. No more distractions in Nintendo's market.
Nintendo started the 8th Gen to END the Console Wars. That's why they're taking so long to get out of it.
Wii U failed because of implementation. But Switch succeeded when they revised the implementation.
Nintendo when they're in control ALWAYS moves LAST to the next generation.
They started the 8th Gen not so much because of Sony & Microsoft (who react to Nintendo now) but because of Apple & Google. They were protecting their entire business & a side effect is causing their console competitors to drown in that Red Ocean. The struggle of 3DS & Wii U only slowed down this process. But it was inevitable.
They saw this coming probably as soon as 1996 when Microsoft's Bill Gates started sniffing around Nintendo after Sony entered the videogame business. There's a picture of Bill Gates & Nintendo's Hiroshi Yamauchi playing Go.
Hiroshi Yamauchi knew what he was up to & he prepared Nintendo for the future.
Microsoft buying Rare to hostile takeover Donkey Kong was a sign of their intentions & Nintendo was prepared.
Long-Term Vision & a need for Conttol are things Nintendo depends on. That's why they survive these Giants.

The past few months have kinda opened my eyes to how risky of a business AAA game development is becoming. It makes for spectacular games, no denying that, but as dev time balloons and budgets get bigger, the consoles, which are only getting more expensive, get fewer and fewer blockbusters. And in an era of games where anything, no matter the budget, has the potential to become the next big thing, it could all be beaten out by a 4 dollar watermelon puzzle game in the end. Seriously, How the hell do you fix this?

+WhyYouWahYoo "Seriously, How the hell do you fix this?"
*Easy. You don't. They CAN'T. They CAN'T fix this, WhyYouWahYoo.*
People do not understand this business. They don't know the components that make it up.
But Nintendo does. Why? Because they wrote the BOOK on it, that's why.
You gotta go back ALL the way to the Crash of 1983 while also remembering the origin of the business in 1972.
When Videogaming became a Business in 1972, there were two entities.
*ATARI with the 1st Videogame Arcade. MAGNAVOX ODYSSEY with the 1st Videogame Console.*
The Videogame Business started as an American business from Nolan Bushnell & Ted Dabney in Atari...
...and Ralph Baer in the Magnavox Odyssey. That is the foundation of the entire Videogame Industry.
The Video Arcade followed the lead of Mechanical & Electronic Arcades with Quarter Dollar Coin-Op system.
The Videogame Console was the vision of Ralph Baer who wanted an ACTIVE Television over the PASSIVE Television we all got by the 1950s. To not just look at a screen one-way but INTERACT with the screen two-way.
Alongside Atari & the Magnavox Odyssey were two entities from Japan who assisted in building the new medium.
*NAKAMURA MANUFACTURING COMPANY or NAMCO, a Coin-Op Amusement Company...*
*...and NINTENDO, a Playing Card/Board Game/Toy Making Company.*
People of Namco were involved in Atari Japan, Atari's 1st international subsidiary.
Nintendo supplied their Beam Gun to a selection of Magnavox Odyssey games including Shooting Gallery.
So you have a situation in the 1970s where the Americans were the Teachers & the Japanese were the Students.
Namco studied the business from Atari & Nintendo studied the business from the Magnavox Odyssey.
By the start of the 1980s, Nolan Bushnell, the remaining founder of *Atari* , was forced out of his company by investors of Warner Bros. who funded the creation of the Atari 2600 getting Atari ownership as a result.
*Namco* , 2 years after Japan began showing mastery of the business through 1978's Space Invaders from Taito, created Pac-Man which became the biggest Videogame Arcade in the world even still to this day.
*The Magnavox Odyssey* was misunderstood in this new tech age but ushered in a deluge of PONG Clone Consoles including ones from Atari (Atari PONG) & Nintendo (Color TV-Game 6).
Magnavox Odyssey 2 was lost in the shuffle with all of this but the idea of the Videogame Console survived.
*Nintendo* went into the business for themselves in Consoles & Arcades as well as this new sector called Handhelds having just released the legendary Game & Watch. They were soon preparing to release Donkey Kong.
American Videogaming & Japanese Videogaming had distinctive styles & perspectives when compared.
American Videogaming was more focused on the body of the item in the field of play.
Japanese Videogaming was more focused on the face & the emotions of the character within play.
American Asteroids from Atari were simply outlines of space rocks & a single spaceship in a black field of space.
Japanese Pac-Man from Namco had ghosts with googly eyes & different personalities per ghost.
And these differences skewed American players closer to the Japanese side over the American side in time.
*The Japanese* were more *Collectivist* & focused on the *Soul* of each character which is why there was a face.
*The Americans* were more *Individualist* & focused on the *Goal* of the game which is why things were cogs in a machine. All else is background to the goal. All else is background parts to the players' performance.
The Japanese lived for many many centuries on a little Island that was mostly Uninhabitable Mountains.
The Americans lived for a couple of centuries on a vast Mainland that had a Variety of Landscapes.
So the *Japanese* developed *LONG-TERM PLANNING* as a society overall due to a long-lived bleak landscape.
And the *Americans* developed *SHORT-TERM PLANNING* as a society overall due to a short-lived land of wealth.
When tsunamis, earthquakes, & feudal wars over narrow fertile lands are common, you think *LONG-TERM.*
When space is abundant enough to have backyards & numerous water sources, you think *SHORT-TERM.*
Japanese are the Ants because they're forced to prepare by the land they live in.
Americans are the Grasshoppers because there's always gonna be another opportunity in the land they live in.
*SHORT-TERM American thinking* leads to MANY *Entrepreneurs* which is why Videogaming started in America.
But that same *SHORT-TERM American thinking* led to countless *Waste* leading to the *Crash of 1983.*
*LONG-TERM Japanese thinking* dissuades upstart Entrepreneurs over long-standing *Establishments.*
But that same *LONG-TERM Japanese thinking* *Sustains a business Away* from a *Crash like in 1983* which is why Videogaming is now centered in Japan.
*The outcome of the Crash of 1983 was that the Japanese became the Teachers & the Americans became the Students.*
*Atari* & all others in the American videogaming business collapsed. They tried to move on to the *Personal Computer.*
*Nintendo* saw one man's trash & decided it was another's man's treasure & brought the *Famicom* to America.
*The Personal Computer fell to the Family Computer or Nintendo Entertainment System* & Nintendo thus Japan has ruled the Videogame Industry ever since. And that INCLUDES the new Tablet PC AKA Mobile sector as well.
The founders of the business were the following: Atari, Magnavox Odyssey, Namco, & Nintendo.
Which one of these companies are still intact in its original formation?
Atari is a historic brand name passed around because the original company is long gone.
The Magnavox Odyssey is a piece of history but there are no Odysseys left in production.
Namco is no longer just Namco anymore. It is a blended company called Bandai-Namco today.
Nintendo is the only one still 100% intact since its original introduction into the business.
*When Nintendo restored the Videogame Industry after the Crash of 1983, they rewrote the industry in THEIR image.*
*They wrote the BOOK on how it's supposed to run. They wrote the BIBLE on it.*
All others you see in the Videogame Console business are seen by Nintendo as intruders on their design.
They're seen as thieves taking pieces of the pie Nintendo baked.
Sega, NEC, SNK, Sony, Bandai, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook/Meta, whatever.
Nintendo weathers & tolerates the intrusions but they see this as THEIR industry at the end of it all.
The business started in 1972 with Arcade & Console coming off of General Computers.
Where are Arcades today? Consoles both Home & Handheld still exist now best in a form called Hybrid.
Computers split into 2 major markets with Desktop/Laptop PC vs. Tablet PC AKA Mobile.
But PC saved its market by emulating pieces of the Console business as seen in Valve's Steam (30% cut).
Tablet PC AKA Mobile Consolized the PC experience as well with its much more simplified hardware design.
But *only* the *CORE & KEEPER of the Console* (Nintendo) develops, publishes, & storefronts their games & platforms all by themselves in a way that doesn't devalue their products. Even Sony & Microsoft can't do it quite like this.
Neither Apple nor Google nor Amazon nor Facebook/Meta develops or publishes games. Only storefronts.
Sony & Microsoft develop, publish, & storefront but they struggle to do so which is why they run to PC for help.
Everything you see playing out is inevitable. It was always gonna turn out this way.
I can break down all the intricate details on each micro-component on HOW it all led to this.
But I chose to give you the macro view instead. This is Destiny if you understand the roots of the business.

I guess I'm confused as to what major ongoing Playstation franchise you were expecting a sequel to this year?? We got a new Spiderman just a few months ago, God of War Ragnarök came out the year before that and just got a free DLC, the last Horizon also came out that year and got DLC last year, the last Ratchet game came out 2021, Gran Turismo got its latest entry just two years ago... I guess there maybe could have been something new from Naughty Dog or Sucker Punch, but even that was pretty unrealistic considering modern dev cycles and that their last games each came out in 2020. So I don't really get the disappointment tbh.
Also, Sony DID NOT say that the PS5 is in the later half of its life-cycle now, but rather that it will be entering that second half LATER THIS YEAR. Which is totally normal if you assume a regular seven year console cycle.

Before it was live service gaming, but now it may be up in the air because Jim Ryan is out, and then there was Phil Spencer moving the Xbox into a multi-platform subscription service where the console becomes a brand and less an entity you can hold it feels. Didn't I say that Switch wasn't coming out in 2024? It's too early for Switch 2. Switch 1 still has life left.
Nintendo was always gonna come out on top as Microsoft & Sony go 3rd Party with XBox & PlayStation.
This direction had been set by the late Hiroshi Yamauchi, the old President & Chairman of Nintendo.
*Yamauchi put the ARTISTS & ENGINEERS FIRST not the ACCOUNTANTS. The makers are the source of the money.*
And he trained the late Satoru Iwata with these ideals so Iwata was ready to go as soon as he took over the company.
Nintendo wrote the BIBLE on how to run the Videogame Industry with the Famicom/NES in the mid 1980s.
You can waver a bit but eventually you have to get in line with those tenets if you want your company to last in the biz.
Iwata maintained the Seal of Quality, the Value, the Integrity, & the Soul & that's why Nintendo survived Apple & Google.
Yamauchi & Iwata saw money-headed Microsoft coming & they steered clear of the Horsepower Race 20 years ago.
Sony wasn't as smart & got themselves caught up in a game they can't win. Trillions will always beat Billions.
*The Videogame Console should not EXIST today. It only remains by making itself DISTINCT from the PC.*
*Nintendo is the CORE & the KEEPER of the Videogame Console and thus the CORE & the KEEPER of the entire industry.*
Only Nintendo can hold their game prices while fully supplying games & consoles by themselves generation to generation.
Developer & Publisher & Storefront just the same. No other can do it quite like them on the level they do it.
Sony & Microsoft going 3rd Party was inevitable & the signs were there in the 7th Generation.
It just took a little while to play out. Switch does what Wii U intended to do. UNIFY this industry. Destiny is playing out.

So I think it was good that they, kind of, addressed that big, like, elephant in the room right away.
Um, and I think they sort of went out of their way to, like, assure people that there's still going to be...XBox exclusives...
...and it's, like, again, these, like...for now at least, there are these, kind of, clear criteria that is going to be, um, these games that might be going to other platforms to put through, so..."
February 15, 2024: Microsoft Assures Its XBox Fanbase.
February 21, 2024: Microsoft Confirms It Is Going Full 3rd Party To Same XBox Fanbase.
*It IS Over For XBox. It IS Over For Them.*
Console LAW states that a 1st Party AKA a Platform Maker MUST NOT put any of its Games on a Competitor's Platform.
The only exceptions to this are games that cannot be done on the current platform on the market from the 1st Party or games made in a special deal between Platform Makers for a special purpose.
So Nintendo gives PC 'Mario Teaches Typing' in the 1990s because their Super Nintendo & Game Boy didn't have a keyboard.
And Nintendo/Pokémon Company gives iPhone & Android 'Pokémon GO' in 2016 due to 3DS, Wii U, & upcoming Switch not having enough similar smartphone features to make game viable.
Nintendo's current Mobile games were forced on them by the shareholders & they use them as advertisements for their main platform, the Switch. They dabble in Mobile for research just like they did with cell phones in early 2000s with 'Mobile Golf'.
They made the infamous deal with Phillips on those CD-i games in that unique special case scenario.
But they don't let ANY other platform overshadow their own on the rare occasion they go outside of them.
That is Console LAW. You simply can't go against that if you want to maintain a Platform & your 1st Party status.
Sony is talking about going to PC because AAA budgets are killing their incomes.
This will eventually lead to a 'Day & Date' scenario which will ultimately undermine their PlayStation platform.
XBox CAME from the PC world to begin with & now it's not only returning back but going everywhere else altogether.
If you put 4 of your main games on competing platforms, you might as well put 40 or 400 of them just the same.
If you got compelling games, you use them to drive the adoption of your console platform & compete in the market.
The order of numbers never changes. We count ONE, TWO, THREE. We count 1, 2, 3.
And that is FIRST, SECOND, THIRD. That is 1st, 2nd, 3rd. The order shows the importance.
1st Party has more power than 3rd Party. 1st Party makes the Console & makes the Games on it.
3rd Party simply makes the Games & seeks a 1st Party to host them. The ones with the platforms control the industry.
So when Microsoft goes 3rd Party, they're removing themselves from the competition & just becoming another vendor.
You can only have so much influence over the industry as a 3rd Party. You need a platform as a 1st Party to take root.
Valve has figured this out which is why there's Steam Machines & now Steam Deck. The Steam storefront is not enough.
Microsoft got what they wanted anyway. The ultimate goal of the Direct X Box has succeeded.
The ultimate goal of Project Midway (DirectX Box) & The Manhattan Project (DirectX) has succeeded.
Sony put their games on WINDOWS PC & bowed down to Microsoft's TRUE platform. That's a Direct Hit. A Direct X.
Sony can no longer threaten the adoption of Windows PC with their own hardware & potential operating system.
Since Sony depends on 3rd Parties to be successful, you will see Mega-Publisher Microsoft hold the keys to Sony's fate.
Sony has retreated from their bread & butter Media Players & Media Formats. They no longer use Discs to direct PlayStations.
CD defined PlayStation 1. DVD defined PlayStation 2. UMD defined PlayStation Portable. Blu-ray defined PlayStation 3.
What discs define PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, PlayStation 5, PlayStation VR 2?
Sony depends on PlayStation to be viable as a business & depends on American/European gaming to uphold PlayStation.
They fell right into Microsoft's trap. AAA High-Budget Development was a psyop from Microsoft all along.
Trillions will always beat Billions. Sony can't outspend Microsoft so Microsoft put in the propaganda on AAA Graphics.
A company rooted in Audio/Video like Sony cannot resist the pull of FIDELITY so they easily fell into this trap.
Competing with Microsoft got Sony to value "The West" over "The East" rooting them to American/European fate over their hometown Japanese/Asian fate. Microsoft systematically moved Sony off of all of its strengths.
Now Sony's fate is in the hands of Microsoft. A Radioactive X covers Sony's PlayStation. A Direct Hit from the Atomic Bomb.
However, Microsoft only chased the Paper Tiger all along. Sony was NEVER the Boss of this Business. Nintendo is.
To remove the Japanese influence in gaming & culture, Microsoft created the Manhattan Project known as DirectX.
But they targeted the wrong entity. And they realized this more & more as the Console Generations went on.
Nintendo wasn't the Sidekick in all of this. Nintendo was the Founder of the Japanese influence.
You wasn't gonna buy Nintendo & Donkey Kong right quick through Rare to fight the "real fight" against Sony.
You were gonna get laughed at by the REAL one, Nintendo, as you unwittingly eliminate their competition in Sony.
And you discovered that you had little leverage over Nintendo except for the Rare games you got in that quick buy.
Nintendo depends on ITSELF & its immediate family. Nintendo depends on the 1st Party & 2nd Party.
Mega-Publisher Microsoft will feed Nintendo not the other way around. Nintendo used Microsoft to UNIFY the industry.
The U in Wii U fulfilled. UNITY. UNIFY. The WE of Wii fulfilled. The FAMILY of Family Computer realized.
As XBox & PlayStation slowly but surely go 3rd Party, it will be Nintendo, the 1st Party, who wins it all in the end.

A handheld Xbox would be pretty awesome. I'd buy one purely as a Game Pass console to pair with my Steam Deck. For the Switch delay, I don't think it'll hurt them too much. Especially if it's only like a 4-6 month delay. Having lots of good games in the launch window of a new system is important. I do worry a little bit about what they're going to do for the Switch library for the latter half of 2024 now though. With Final Fantasy and Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin scheduled as 3rd party exclusives in the next few months Sony are at least doing a good job filling the gaps if they don't have a lot from 1st party this year.

Guys I have to respectfully disagree with your thoughts on Sony's financials, I don't think it at all sounded like putting the nail in the coffin now considering they're talking about it will enter the latter half not that it has and 7 years has become the standard home console length and all rumors are even indicating PS6 won't come til the 8 year mark in 2028. This also wasn't intended for the general public but investors. I think it's more a small bubble that think the generation feels like it's barely started. The PS4 was also seen by some as very slow to get to having a ton of next gen only games like with PS5 because AAA games take so long to make now. I guess it's just once the latter years came in with a bunch of huge exclusives people forget the first years.
And Krysta they have had tons of exclusives particularly in 2022 with Horizon, God of War, Gran Turismo and TLOU part 1. Also Sony is nowhere near as dependent on first party as Nintendo is I think that's skewing your perception. Like for example in 2014, 2015 and 17 they didn't have a big "holiday game" on PS4 and relied on marketing deals with big 3rd party games like Battlefront and still did well saleswise. This year there'll be CoD, and even for first party there'll be stuff just not huge franchises, like Jeff Grubb already said he's hearing Astro Bot.
It was inevitable PS5 sales would decline after this year because this was a year meeting 2 years of pent up demand. Krysta first party alone definitely isn't why most people have a PS5, most just stick to the biggest 3rd party games unlike Nintendo consoles. They've been carrying most of the load for the first 3 years. But even that aside there's already been a ton of exclusives. I don't think it was bad financials considering the PS5 sales in this fiscal were among the best ever for a PS console, and this November was their biggest sales ever for a PS in November. The PS5 pro will be coming out right before GTA6 which is gonna be by far the biggest thing on the planet and the best place to play it with it not coming out on PC for years. Their target they missed was extremely ambitious and would have been the highest fiscal year of console sales ever. You guys are really exaggerating saying things are looking bad, the PS5 is keeping sales pace with PS4 despite still being $500 when PS4 already had a price drop.
I'm not as sure of Xbox's attempt to appear like every rumor was false and things are the same as always considering straight afterwards Phil refused to rule out Starfield and Indiana for PS.

Their PlayStation discourse was very shaky, they seemed rather jealous and upset - even called Final Fantasy Rebirth multiplatform. Kept saying things are looking really bad, yet PlayStation early 2024 is one of the most stacked lineups in 2 months console history, imo.
So in short, Kit and Krysta is most certainly not the place to go for PlayStation news. They are easily console war accounts when it comes to other consoles discourse, but they are the best when it comes to Nintendo discourse. So listen responsibly and change the channel when they talk about the other consoles.

The PS5 is barely powerful enough to run visually demanding PSVR2 games like Resident Evil Village, RE4: VR Mode etc. More power means higher frame rates, better graphics, performance and resolution. As is, the OG PS5 doesn't even support a lot of 120fps titles or native 4K+60fps. More titles that actually support 120fps-144fps would be great too, since you'd be cutting down over 50% of your TV's motion blur, reducing latency by half so games feel even more responsive and intuitive, and you're getting that buttery smooth life-like motion which benefits certain genres, be it racers, anything in first person, 3rd person etc. 120 looks pretty rad on my 65" QD-OLED.
And it's good that Sony is releasing a Pro model every few years(Nintendo too has released 3 different Switch's now), giving people the option for more power with the Pro, settling for a less powerful slimmer form factor or just sticking with the launch PS5 .

In my opinion, game exclusives stop mattering once you have the most powerful hardware. If you have all of the systems, a non-exclusive comes out, and the game is the same price across the board, why would you not just get the game for the system with the strongest performance? It seems like you would be doing a disservice to yourself otherwise.

I want to be optimistic and say, the more it takes for Nintendo to do a Switch 2, the more powerful it will be.

If you really think Nintendo has nothing for 2024 in the wake of PlayStation's & XBox's pitfalls, you're about to be surprised.
Nintendo is coming to 2024 like they ALWAYS were coming to 2024. Games. Games. Games. Just like 2023.
There was NEVER a Switch 2 coming this year 2024. Switch 1 is STILL popular & STILL has life in it.
NOW is the time to spotlight the lesser known & lesser shown franchises like Star Fox, Kid Icarus, F-Zero, Tomodachi Life, Golden Sun (and maybe Rhythm Heaven?) as well as spotlight long-awaited entries into series like Donkey Kong & Metroid.
They can even drop a whole new series out of the blue & start a new franchise to carry over into Switch 2's life.
Nobody saw Princess Peach Showtime coming, did they? Who's to say they can't do it again with something else?
Nintendo will not have momentum problems because they're not fighting off a disruptive competitor like Apple & Google.
They OWN the momentum. They're not reacting to the Smartphone Revolution anymore like like last time with 3DS & Wii U.
The merging of Handheld Console & Home Console EXTENDS Console Cycles because you can't cannibalize yourself.
Nintendo has to find space to fit all the games in so they can breathe. That's why we're still getting lots of games in 2024.
While Sony & Microsoft stumble this year, Nintendo will shine. Putting out the games this year is how you keep momentum.
Switch 2 will sell no matter what & no matter when. There's a little sequel to Mario Kart 8 that will guarantee this.

I don't think a year without major PlayStation first party exclusives is that worrying - Xbox has gone many years without anything since Xbox One - multiple times.

Arggghhh It's not moved because of X-Box thing. Nintendo Direct happens after big game release, this direct happened after Mario vs Donkey Kong. Why is everybody ignoring this fact. There's no suching thing as a direct 2-3 days before a game release, UNLESS it's a Direct about ONLY that game.

Krysta, I love you, but you often just repeat what kit says in your own words and interrupt him. Just be patient and jump in with the smart substantive comment I know you’re capable of doing because I hear you finally get one in eventually. Don’t be afraid of not saying anything for a moment. If kit isn’t letting you have your moment to talk, you guys need to really hash that out before the show. Obviously take what I’m saying with a grain of salt. I’m not trying to hurt anyone’s feelings and at the end of the day I’m just some commenter on the internet, maybe this would be have been better served in an email or private message. Over all, I do love the show keep up the good work. Having ex-insider Nintendo people doing a show is really cool idea. ❤😊

The switch was for sure going to have more new games announced and releasing on switch this year including during the Holiday. There is for sure lots more to come they have their holiday squared away with like a new Pokemon game or some shit. And there is probably a new Fire Emblem on switch and everything.

If Xbox and Nintendo were to partner in some way it would never make PlayStation redundant.
There are certain kinds of games you simply cannot trust Xbox or Nintendo to cultivate/fund that PlayStation are famous for.

In regards to the "biggest technical leap" comment... I am not sure what consoles can offer in the future if they are leaving behind physical medial an exclusive games. PC gaming its better and cheaper for consumers, so I am curious what can Xbox offer to be THE biggest technical leap.

I don't get why there are people who got so caught up in Sarah Bond's PR speak about their next gen console. Watch any of her presentations or PR moments. Sarah Bond's shtick has always been about spewing metrics and hyping up the XBOX brand. Nothing wrong with that, but it gets tiring and old. She was the one who said Starfield "will be one of the most important RPGs ever." Really? It's all PR BS.
