    • @TomokosEnterprize
      @TomokosEnterprize Před 4 lety +1

      @@ddal3998 The furnace alone to make the steel takes a couple/few weeks ( the Japanese furnace is far different than the one shown here) to build & fire the ore block (bloom) and IF successful it goes to the master that guides the hammering. Where and how hard, how hot are all pinnacle in the process. There are many videos available to see the entire process.

Ore, charccoal etc. And we keep a log of it so we can learn from it for the next time and try to improve the proces. Next time will be next week on the next edition of the Hamerslagdag. 21 may 2017. I've watched a number of videos on this subject now, seeing the ore being roasted before the smelt is not something I've seen elsewhere, how does this help the process? How much ore did you start with and was it just normal lumps of bog ore, or was there something special about it? I'm fascinated by the process and would like to attempt something similar, however being in the southwest of the UK, I need to make sure I get the correct materials and process them correctly. Is roasting the ore something unique to the type of ore you have there? Finally, well done on the smelt, most others that I've seen have only resulted in less than half that amount of iron at the end of it!

    • @MultiNaatje
      @MultiNaatje  Před 7 lety +17

      The roasting of the ore is important. It will change the structure of the ore and the ore will become magnetic after the proces. You can also split the ore in small pieces easy and separate the good ore with a magnet from the waste materials. So the stuff you proces in the furnace is verry pure. To see witch ore we use and how we mine it, watch this movie on my channel. czcams.com/video/Hf6126Uo9Lw/video.html
      Next edition of the Hamerslagdag will be on 21st of may and we shall build again a charcoal heated furnace and try to improve the proces.

    • @MultiNaatje
      @MultiNaatje  Před 6 lety +1

      Hello Kenny. well.... it's magic. every time again...! :-) Always a surprise when opening the furnace. There are a lot of things that affect the proces. Quality of the ore for example. inside the furnace the iron ore reacts with the burning charcoal. We try to manage the temperature about 1100 degrees celcius.When temperature gets higher, we produce cast iron that a blacksmith can not use. Inside the furnace FE2O3 reacts with 3CO and its result is 2FE + 3CO2. The iron is not melted but blows into the bloom together. After this proces a blacksmith needs to edit the bloom into his fire to get rid of all the pollution before he can use it to produce pretty things.

    They use a primitive technology furnace together with an electric fan. Seriously? What's the purpose then of this video? Ancients did it without a fan.

    cool video, but absolutely atrocious and annoying choice of music. Leave this obnoxious stock music to the stupidly cheap "10 ten useless life hacks" videos. Much more suited to the channel to use some kind of folk music.
