  • I've dedicated this next project to an avid fan who I have befriended over some time, and who has gone through a really awful time recently. I wanted him to have something special from me to him, that could hopefully comfort him and give him something to treasure over the coming months.
The Twisted nature of this candle holder is to symbolise how interlocked people become in one another's lives.
The candle holder is made from Sweet chestnut, sanded to 1000 grit and finished with Danish oil and wood wax.
Let me know what you think!

    Disclaimer:
My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.

I love the classical rope spiral. I thought he was going to make another 3 and stick 'em under a coffee table top.

The only reason I've delved this deep into this content is to point out how I was turned off straight away even though I love wood turning. It was due to what seems to me to be utter foolishness to start turning a piece that is so unnecessarily uneven, and attacking it with the chisel or rather having your chisel attacked by it and you can't tell me that didn't risk damaging a very, very expensive lathe. It smacks of child-like "look what I can do" and "this ought to add ghast to to audience". The way I see it, if you're going to be good at what you do, going to take what you do, seriously and expect others to respect it, don't stoop to cheap acts of show, just stick to being good at what you do, as you clearly are.
Keep up the good work. It was brutal to watch how that chisel jammed the wood so hard it all but stopped dead in its tracks. Did you brake or bend a metal prong at the ends that holds the wood in place or did the motor or gearing suffer any damage?

What are you talking about? Harry has had quite a lot of experience turning down rough edges with a roughing gouge. That's what they're for, they remove the roughness and turn it into a nice and proper piece. Harry's had years of woodturning experience, and knows exactly what his lathe and gouge are capable of! I would reckon not one scratch is on his lathe.

He's made that for a friend, who he says has been through a really awful time recently. Your comment is a waste of time. Well done Harry. The world would be a much better place with more people like Harry in it and less people like you.
