    Bought a car using debt and couldn't repay it, got into more debt due to the car payments, had to eventually sell it lest I be taken to court. I am wiser now.

    Debt is slavery. Proverbs 22:7 - the borrower is slave to the lender. More Kenyans should watch this show.

    I feel like Tim had so much to offer! But the interviewer was rushing through the interview.Letting him tell his story would have been good.

    • @maureenwaidhima1245
      @maureenwaidhima1245 Před 3 lety +5

      In my humble opinion, I feel like he took such a long route, full of analogies to answer questions or get to the point. He even lost his train of thought from giving such a long back story and explanation to the question.
      Granted he was sharing his story but guy had so many textbook responses yet the interview is about what he did.
      This interview could be condensed to 20minutes minus the analogies and how the Tala AI works and chips on a rooftop
      For example:
      Rina asks how did you get out of Tala loans?
      Tim: Goes to explain the whole AI approach to how loan credits are awarded by Tala, etc and if one person is driving at 120kph or 60kph you'll all arrive to your destination 🤭
      No shade but 🥵 Rina had to keep bringing the guy back to the question cause he'd digress so so much. He talked so much about analogies than his personal story.

    Great show. I’m just confused about the comment regarding a home not being an investment. My opinion is that you will always need a roof over your head, so if you are not paying a mortgage for a limited time, you will always pay rent forever. Granted, rent amount in Kenya is lower than mortgage payments for a similar house, but over time, rent goes up, but not mortgage installment amounts. What is your take Rina?

    • @MoneyWiseWithRinaHicks
      @MoneyWiseWithRinaHicks  Před 3 lety +4

      Thank you for your question Rahab, your residence is a basic need and is an asset. It's not an investment in the real sense because it takes out money from your pocket as opposed to putting money in. Many people invest in their home and spend a lifetime paying for it, with little else to show in terms of other assets. This is what I am saying is not wise.

      Mortgages have an interest component, which is almost always variable (and if it is pegged to the CBK interest rate like other loans, it most certainly is variable). So it is not a valid assumption that your mortgage payments will never go up.

      @@MoneyWiseWithRinaHicks I love that you mentioned the opportunity cost of the money that is being pumped into paying a mortgage, because the installments for even a modest 3 million shilling house are considerable.
