    The fact you completely denied the gtd the fact it's cheaper to run, and DOES have alot going for it in power/performance says alot about the quality of your review. Obviously a gti is funner, but I have just as much fun in a gtd

  • @steevieweevie
    @steevieweevie Před 2 lety +11

    GTD is not fundamentally wrong. It's awesome! The balance of power, efficiency, and cheap running costs is very difficult to beat. Also it just looks better than a normal Golf so this is one big reason, along with the extras it comes with as standard, to not 'just go for a normal Golf'.

    • @vIMONST3RIv
      @vIMONST3RIv Před 2 lety +3

      It’s not just a normal golf tho is it, the gtd has a bigger turbo and different fuel injectors, its like saying the gti is the same as a 2.0 tsi so why not just buy a normal tsi

  • @vernonprice5986
    @vernonprice5986 Před 6 lety +10

    Okay so you said the GTD is pointless, but then didn't recognize that the GTD has the same suspension as the GTi. So then what you would have had to do is compare the Golf GTD to the Golf TDi, to determine if the GTD is worth it, rather than comparing it to the GTi and the GTE. Since the GTD is much more fuel efficient than the GTi, it seems like it would actually be a worthy choice over the GTi - assuming the handling and feel is close to the GTi, which you didn't really say whether it was or not.
    For me, if the GTD handles as well, feels as good as the GTi but has better economy at the expense of 60 bhp, I would get the GTD.

      @chrismc1977 Před 4 lety

      The GTi is ruined by DSG box as it constantly looks for too high a gear- even in sport mode I was left distinctly underwhelmed. DSG is so much better in a GTD. A mapped GTD will go as well & better than a stock GTi & still give 45mpg overall. They are all too big & heavy to be true hot hatches in any case

    • @richboy900
      @richboy900 Před 3 lety

      @@chrismc1977 agreed there, and from a gtd owner myself. Mine's doing near 60mpg and it isn't mapped at all. Would only get dsg for a Golf R tbh, I've heard the manual golf r is tough on its synchros. I agree on the weight thing, the golf is more an all round package than a track weapon like a civic type r or a Renault sport

    1:04 - Being a bit of a VW Golf "Anorak" I know but the first GTD was a Mk1 Golf and actually hit the streets in 1982, so not "nearly ten years ago", but 32 years ago. I had a go in an, '88 Golf 2 GTD back in the day and it was GREAT, but a bit too unusual for the time. Learning how to drive the low range torque and not rev the nuts off it, like I had to in my '86 8V Group N Golf (and still have to, but that's another story!) was a bit strange, but we're all more used to that these days. Didn't sell that well though, which might explain the name vanishing for a while.

    To get the highest MPG from the GTE you need to run on EV mode first. I'm sitting at 168mpg over 13000 miles. And that's with pushing the GTE button on occasions. Add Koni Active Sport shocks, H&R springs and uprated control arm bushes and it's way more keen to turn in than my M4.

    The only problem with the Gti 245 when it comes to ownership ironically comes from it's big brother the Golf R. For only £6 per month more on PCP finance, you can get the Golf R over the 245, and for that reason, it makes the 245 virtually redundant. As good as the 245 may be, for the price of a cup of coffee per week, you'd be a mug not to go for the Golf R.

    • @ParkersTV
      @ParkersTV  Před 6 lety

Why not just get a 2.0 tsi? Because they are a completely different car all together just like the GTD and the normal 2.0 tdis

    I don’t believe the gte is good on fuel on the motorway, once the electric energy is spent. It’s basically a heavier petrol powered car. It’s probably good on short journeys and that’s about it.

    • @ParkersTV
      @ParkersTV  Před 6 lety +1

      Once the electrical energy is spent, you're right, it is a heavier petrol and therefore less economical. But you can make it last a surprisingly long time and charge it while driving, too.

    • @Mr_Sprint
      @Mr_Sprint Před 6 lety +1

      The trick is not to spend it all. Once you deplete it, you force it to behave like a petrol car. If you’re motorway driving, keep some power back, as little as 3 or 4 miles, and it will be able to switch the engine off when coasting or lifting off the power, and use the motor to fill gaps in power, or supplement the engine for a few seconds here and there. You can see gains of up to 10mpg over a long journey this way. Then use those last miles of electric to get you home to your charger.

    • @Alex-xl4xe
      @Alex-xl4xe Před 6 lety

      It's up to everyone's situation and the region they live in.
      The GTE is unbeaten at saving fuel, the recuperation alone might bring some people from home to work once more just by braking. The GTI is for the bigger guys and Volkswagen fanboys. It's compact and much more fun to drive, but no actual alternative if you only want to go from A to B. The GTD however is entirely different, with the fuel fundamentally changing the vehicle and it's purpose, if you need a compact car for long distances because your Job requires so, go for a GTD.
      One example of myself: I live in Germany and the state supports Diesel Engines through making the price per gallon lower. Many people therefore favor Diesel, recent events though might change that and Diesel Sells dropped heavily. My own daily routine only requires me to drive a total of only ~30km. Which is a distance, a GTE could easily make and even have a few spare kilometers to go and eat a pizza with my friends. Over night I would charge it and the next day, everything starts again. Going fully electric in my daily routine and only needing Petrol for longer distances would probably save the most money.
      But guess what, I'm a mechanic and more Horsepower is better right? GTI is the go-to. No sorry, I'd prefer GTE.
