2024 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 First Ride Review

- For 2024, the Royal Enfield Himalayan is delving into previously uncharted territory for RE, and a step into the future for the brand. “Capable but not intimidating; that has been the ethos of the Himalayan from the start,” according to Royal Enfield. I think we can all agree, that pretty well sums up the simple, retro adventure bike from the Indian brand. Has the massive overhaul the Himalayan received changed this character? That’s what we set forward to find out, and what better place to do it than its namesake in Northern India.
This video is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the new Royal Enfield Himalayan. There's a lot more to cover, so don't forget to read the full written review here: www.motorcycle.com/bikes/manu...

So sorry for your loss. I obviously didn't know him but I watched him on this channel and he came across as such a warm and caring guy, with a real passion for motorcycling.
Probably the best introduction I have seen. Content, pace and style. Thank you.
4:21 "I prefer the styling of the old one."
Me too.
I think this looks way better
@@judge831it looks like all other
@@vml9453That's your personal opinion & many don't agree with you!
@@judge831 It looks more like a husqvarna now
sorry for your loss , this bike looks like a HUGE step forward for them !!
Thank you Evans for all the years of motorcycle talk and reviews, sorry you had to leave us.
I could not get on board with the original Himalayan, once I test rode one, I really came not to like the bike. This updated 450 looks like it'll actually be capable off-road and safe on road(you know it'll have enough power to go and enough brakes to stop...).
So sad about Evans' passing. Truly tragic. He sounded like such an amazing colleague and father figure.
Sorry for your loss. The new Himalayan is now a modern and enough powerful ADV bike. I think that it has the right amount of tech. What some other CZcamsrs complained about is the dash that is fleshing on videos. This is gonna be a problem only for CZcamsrs I guess. :) A great frost ride video. Enjoyed.
Great video 🙌🏼
I’m sorry for your loss
Simple and to the point, great vid. My condolences
So sorry for your loss!
I loved Evans reviews and your various shootouts together with him!
I’m probably going to binge watch a lot of Evans reviews this weekend!
Again! So sorry for your loss!

I realize that most ADV type bikes are not lookers, but this new Himmy is downright homely. The previous generation looks much better. I suppose just like dogs, babies and girlfriends, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My NTM '13 V-Strom 650 is so much better than my '21 Himmy in all aspects excepting for off roading, which is less than 5% for me. It will be interesting to see how the 2nd gen sells. I appreciate your reviews, keep up the good work!
Great quick review and I do like this bike very much. And though a bit heavier than the competition, it also includes a center stand, luggage rack, crash guards and more fuel in the tank than the other guys. This could be a great bike for when I downsize my V Strom 650...when I get to old to hold it up when I get a little out of shape. And this, of course, will be much better off road. Can't wait to ride one! Oh, and that ride looked fantastic!
Dude, the gym is your friend.
Because RE uses metal & not flimsy plastics like other bikes! And guess what for its intended use metal is more reliable & needed! Also lighter materials means more cost, meaning bike will be more costly, not ideal for RE!
cool review can you tell me what kind of oil filter it uses please generic or like the 411?
THANK YOU for an objective review. I watched cycle world's and it was just a commercial for RE. The bike looks awesome and looks like a great option for a mid size adv bike. Thanks
Haha, i get your point. But atleast it is better than the british reviews you get on triumph bikes. They make it sound like it is the best thing since the slice bread.
May the lord comfort Evans family, near&dear.
Crisp review
RIP I feel he will be seeing you do this with passion like he used to do it.
Oh wow. Evans seemed like a great guy and a great editor I really enjoyed his content. Too young to pass. He'll be missed
What whould you choose between this and a versys 300x. I believe the Versys has a vetter power to weight ratio
Good looking bike I love the two layer seat design
It was torquey but now it’s rev happy powerful because of the over-square engine instead of the undersquare thumpy engine of the previous generation
It will be interesting to see how well the bike works on US highways. At least from my experience, 30hp at the rear wheel seems to be enough to deal with most US roads, so this bike has enough power, the question is whether it feels good enough (stable and acceptable vibration level) on the highway to qualify as an "all rounder".
I always wonder why the folk stateside believe they need a bigger capacity bike than anyone else?
@@johna6968 harley harley harley haarrrrley haarrrrley
Because they weigh more than anyone else.
@@johna6968 It depends on what they plan to do and what riding they do. The US is a big place and it is common to travel on highways for over an hour. There are a number of places in the US where traffic moves along at up to 85mph (137kph). My area has rolling hills and traffic is a constant 75mph (120kph). It is nerve-racking to be unable to keep up with traffic and have cars and trucks rapidly approach from the rear. Motorcycles are not terribly common here and, believe it or not, many motorists don't always notice that one is in front of them. A lot of motorcycles are hit from behind.
There are even high-speed expressways or bypasses inside and around even small cities in the US, so quickly getting up to speed and staying with traffic flow is important.
If you read comments on the older Himalayan, many say they avoid riding it on high-speed motorways. That limits its utility. Used models frequently come up for sale and a common reason is "not as useful as I thought it would be".
A strong water-cooled 350 like the R3 can keep up. My old air-cooled FT500 only produced about 27hp and it was enough. My current Z400 has more than enough power.
@@johna6968my cousin who rides tells me I need something with horsepower because people don't know how to drive around motorcycles. Idk I'm looking for my first bike stateside
When is it coming to the US
How would it perform on the highway for long trips?
Looks cool
Tubeless will be on those bikes in foreign market. But here in India government delays in approval mean mayest it will be released on bikes in about 4 months
Props to RE on this launch. This is going to be a popular bike. I hope they hold up to some abuse.
I doubt it, their pricepoint is way too high.
Pretty much the same price as a new Honda nx500
Evans will be missed... RIP.
I would suggest you guys also review the Benelli TRK 702x. Not sure if it's available in the US (if it isn't perhaps your European colleagues could review it) but it may surprise and upset the ADV segment especially considering the value!
So sad to hear of his passing. I heard it was a hit and run and they apprehended someone. I wish you could do a video on what caused the wreck. What ever happened good or bad could help other motorcyclist stay safe while riding.
Ngl it would be nice if there are clips showing other features in action (e. g. the maps in thr dashboard) not just a static shot.
Great beginners bike, as long as no one compares it to the DR650/400, KLR 650, Vstrom 800.
What should it be compared to? Versys 300? Ktm adventure 390? Bmw gs 310?
Forgot th Honda Xr 650
Of all the reviews I've seen, this is the first that dares to mention software glitches that Ryan and others experienced. Since these are pre-production bikes, hopefully R.E. recognizes and solves the issues (without creating new ones). It also seems wrong that the "Off-Road ABS" setting disables only the rear ABS: wouldn't it be more appropriate to disable the front ABS for off-road?
One Indian CZcamsr who bought the bike and even took it home said it still has a few glitches.
However RE has improved its tripper thingy and their RE app, so they have set a precedence for improving their software. Time will tell..
SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS HE WAS GREAT TO WATCH ALL THESE YEARS WILL BE MISSED
I love it
Sorry for your loss. Do you think the new RE450 is beginner friendly as a first bike? Thanx ✌️
absolutely
where is this road ?
I understand you're new at this but you gotta look more confident in front of the camera. Good video though, try your best, keeo the channel alive.
Very kool looking motorcycle. I just wish they put their 650 in it. I don't like singles.
I feel it has lost it’s vintage look which for me made it exciting. It seems that based on the success of this model they have introduced a lot of riders to the hobby and as they progress they will look for more performance. So it looks like R.E is making some excellent business moves. But i enjoy vintage vehicles and motorcycles have an advantage over heavily restricted car safety laws in order to make new bikes that look old, so they should enjoy that while it lasts.
release date?
Id still take a DR650, 100lbs lighter and more torque, and plenty of clean used ones around for a lot cheaper!
absolutely better choice ... let me tell u here in india we dont get those bikes ..so these bikes r more for offroading here ..its all business politics .companies r feeding us adv bikes as trend nothing more .. a kx 110 costs similar to buying 500cc honda ..very expensive
@@bonjovi1354why politics 😂 people are buying adventure bikes and they are selling them , supply and demand

The price has been announced in the UK. Just less than £6k
Yep, we included it in our article with some reference. US pricing is set to be announced Summer 2024
top speed?
Can't wait to see a comparison between this and the Triumph Scrambler 400x. The Triumph has better style, and is a bit lighter, the Enfield has the pedigree. Should be a good one.
Triumph 400x cannot do offroading... It's just a raised speed 400... It's suspension is highly uncomfortable..
But it's really cool looking bike..
If you are riding off road reaching the traction control, you need to learn how to ride. Putting those aluminium dustbins on the back, sums you guys up. There is plenty of torque to crawl away on tickover without clutch slipping, we do it two up on a 350 Meteor. Go watch Itchy Boots, she know her stuff...after her two Hondas fell apart.
boa mandou bem
How did Evans die?
RIP Evans
17" rear, not 18".
Essa moto é boa para viajar com mulher gorda? A suspensões traseira afunda?
I also liked the design of the previous model more than this one! It’s new, it’s kind of bloated and not harmonious.
Finally, what the price?
We'd love to know. Pricing is still not available in the US.
Connected motorcycle and ''freedom'' sounds a bit contradictory. Besides that, the ''all electronic'' concept, like the all-by-wire goes against the on-terrain reparability, which is the very characteristics of such bikes. It's a big no-no for me.
The seat height is not low
Pricing was announced in and for India a couple of weeks ago..
And you really liked the stying of its predecessor ? To each their own !!!
how about your Weight?
About 190 (86 kg) geared up
432lbs seems heavier than it should be
Eco should have just been called 411 mode
Germany 5800 to 6400 euro
at 2.43 you say it has an 18" rear but not only does it look like a 17 but the video clearly shows its a 17" tyre fitted. So may videos are misreporting this or presenters are saying what they wish it to be rather than what it is. Its such a basic thing to check. To get it wrong brings in to question how much of the more technical information in the video, that is not so easy to check, is wrong or wishful rather than fact. Its not even like you can say you had limited time to get the data during the test ride, its right there in your video. Pointless having the video out if the info in it is wrong. Its just pictures
I’ll stick with the old one. Air cooled = simplicity
Looks like a Suzuki v strom now
It has two wheels and an engine like a v strom
This is disappointing. I’m about to get my first bike and have been listening to all the reviews of the old Himalayan so I was waiting for the updated more powerful one to come out. They went and made it ugly.
How did Evans died?
Hit and run accident
Ugh, the upspeak...I miss the days of Mitch "The Butcher" Boehm.
Man, I remember reading Motorcycist with Mitch Boehm and Nick Ienatsch.
Would never buy any junk from them again
Same things people say about KIA or Hyundai?
Things improve, even if the name doesn't change. Royal Enfield has a longer history than Harley Davidson.
@@exothermal.sprocketNot only Harley, they are the oldest motorcycle company in the world.
And tested among all brands they have the least wear on the engine parts.
The only thing is they need to keep it cheap for their Indian market.
@@ekimandersom4478 If you believe the flawed F9 test about engine wear.
Gonna handicap your riding IMO. I wouldn’t trust anything they make honestly lol.
RE good for making junk
This review is just a bunch of useless contradictions, and you got the wheel size wrong.. its a 17" rear.
RIP Evans
